And shouldn't be used to determine seeding between teams when there is very strong evidence that one has accomplished more than another.

Tennessee rightly got seeded second. Is a two-win difference in the conference tournament enough to nullify a much better regular season? If it is, it shouldn't be. Who do you knock down then? Kansas Kansas finished tied for the Big 12 title and Tennessee won theirs but Kansas showed up and won the Big 12 tournament. That's your difference. And the Big 12 was a better league in the SEC this year. Kansas over Tennessee for a No. 1 is a no doubter. Like you said, Tennessee won the SEC outright. The Vols also had a better RPI than Kansas (2 v 5), Tennessee had 3 wins over teams in the top 12 in the RPI (Memphis - higher ranked than Kansas - Vandy and Xavier) while Kansas had 1 (Texas today) and Tennessee has a SOS of 1 and Kansas' is 50. Far from a no-doubter and, in my opinion, ridiculous. Kansas had a better weekend. Tennessee had a better season. Exactly my point. Two games at the end of the year should not completely erase being a better team the entire season. It's silly. The conference tournaments have become way, way too important. Tennessee's overall profile is better than Kansas's. Exactly. The conference tournaments are silly anyway - the fact that they take a team that is at least better - if not significantly so - than another team to a 2 seed instead of a 1 seed is frankly ridiculous.

But Tennessee has proven to be at least as good - if not better. What has been accomplished on the court should matter more than a subjective "I think this team looked better."

It's pretty ridiculous that Tennessee is not a 1 seed. Even though we didn't make our tournament championship, we won the SEC regular season championship outright (more meaningful) and we had a much better resume than Kansas. Otherwise, I'm happy enough with the Vols' spot. I don't know much about American though...

Care to elaborate on that statement? Dontrelle Willis? Micah Owings? Hell, even Zambrano. If they're a good/better hitter than your 8-spot, why not give them a couple more at bats by moving them up in the lineup? You're gonna bat Zambrano ahead of whom ???? 04/02 - 09/30 AB R H 2B 3B HR TB RBI BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS Zambrano 81 8 20 2 0 2 28 5 1 27 0.247 0.256 0.346 0.602 Theriot 533 80 142 30 2 3 185 44 48 50 0.266 0.325 0.347 0.672 Cedeno 74 6 15 2 0 4 29 13 3 18 0.203 0.234 0.392 0.626 Pie 177 26 38 9 3 2 59 20 14 43 0.215 0.271 0.333 0.604 Fontenot 234 30 65 12 4 3 94 29 21 43 0.278 0.333 0.402 0.735 Cedeno apparently...

The UGA/UK game has been postponed. There is no currently set time for it to be made up. I'd think it'd have to be sometime tomorrow early morning.

As an Alabama fan, that is a question I am asking. And IMO, the GA/Kentucky game SHOULD NOT BE PLAYED tonight. Push the tournament back a day if need be, but that crap was scary, and there is no way Alabama/MSU are going to be focused to finish the game, or GA/Kentucky are going to be confident they can get the game in. So push the tourny back, playing it tonight, doesn't make a lick a sense. I have to think this option was discussed. Apparently all the bad weather has passed, so it should be safe for the teams to play (hopefully). What would it mean for the tournament to be pushed back a day - in terms of the effect on the other teams with games scheduled tomorrow and whatever stuff is scheduled for Sunday and Monday?
-
What's crazy (and what sucks) game-wise is that once the Miss. State/Bama game ends, they're going to have to play the Georgia/Kentucky game tonight. Whoever wins that game is going to be at a serious disadvantage tomorrow.

I would. I'm not convinced at all that Cedeno will ever be much of a hitter and Veal has some very serious question marks. Gallagher is a big loss, but Roberts helps this team quite a bit too. I wouldn't be dancing in the street over the trade, but I think it would be a net improvement for the Cubs.

no, it's really not How is it not? After 3 months, name other possible scenarios. Hendry wants him, Macphail is asking for more than hendry currently wants to give. Whether or not somebody else on the O's side (PGA) is holding it up and wanting more doesn't matter. Hendry needs to decide one way or another, because it's just a distraction. So you'd rather Hendry give up more than he needs to in the trade? No, I'd rather him walk away. What if the current trade on the table is Roberts for Gallagher and a minor leaguer with the only holdup being the O's want to decide if said minor leaguer is Ceda, Cedeno or Veal? Perhaps all these "names tossed around" were mostly bogus and for the past month or two it's been Roberts for Gallagher and one of Ceda/Cedeno/Veal. Maybe the current holdup is that MacPhail wants his scouts to evaluate the three minor leaguers in spring training and, towards the end, they'll make their decision between the three. If that's the case and Hendry tabled talks permanently because it's taking too long would you congratulate him for passing on a great trade simply because he was impatient? Haha. Sorry, but I find that EXTREMELY hard to believe. If it turns out that was the case, I'll glady come on here to apologize to Hendry, but come on man. We all know that's not true. Given what you posted two posts up from mine, I'm also betting it's not. The point is, though, what if the media is simply wrong and the deal is currently set up in our favor (less so than my post, but moreso than the Sun article)? However likely it is, it's certainly possible and I'm not going to crucify the man when none of us truly know for sure the exact deal on the table. If the Sun article is correct and that's the trade that goes through after all this time, I'm not going to be happy at all. But, if the Sun is a little off and it's in fact only the first three (Gallagher, Cedeno, Veal), I'll be ok with it.

Panthers cut center Justin Hartwig. I liked Hartwig when he was in Tennessee, hopefully he'll catch on somewhere and get a chance to play. Article also mentions Ryan Kalil is expected to take over the starting center job in Carolina. No surprise there.

If the rest of the offense is producing, I think Lou will have the patience to keep Pie in there. But, if the offense struggles and he starts feeling like he needs offense from anywhere, all bets are off. That said, if Pie produces worth anything I'd say the entire topic is a moot point.

Add to that, the Titans just signed Jake Scott to a four year contract for slightly more than that (just under $5 mil a year). Tennessee gets a 26 year old, very solid offensive lineman for just over a million more than a washed up, old QB. This has been a very good offseason for the Titans in my book. After being unhappy after last offseason (and then proven mostly wrong), I must say I'm very pleased with Reinfeldt this offseason. Where else would a former Colt end up but Tennessee? That's too much money for Scott, by the way. May be now, but I think Mike Munchak can help him continue to get better. Part of the cost I'm sure was need - both of our projected starting guards, Benji Olson and Jacob Bell, are now gone. We're left with Eugene Amano starting at one guard spot (which I don't mind, I like Amano) and a question mark at the other. I'm quite sure Scott recognized the need and got a little more than he should have. After the cheap deals we've gotten from Kearse and Crumpler so far, though, I don't mind overpaying for a good player. Plus, it means another former Colt finding the promised land.

Me neither. But a couple of thoughts come from the ideal of the Bears signing Julius Jones: 1: The Bears acknlowledge that APete is not an ideal backup/legit contender for Benson. Thus this would keep APete in the special teams, and the occasional spot start. 2: It would signal that Garrett Wolfe is nothing more then a CoP back. The Bears need a legit contender for Benson, and they are likely NOT to take another RB in the first three rds. And if the Bears are considering a RB via FA, it's either Chris Brown, Julius Jones, or Warrick Dunn. IMO, Jones is a better bet then Brown or Dunn. But it wouldn't surprise me if the Bears bring in Chris Brown, seeing as they had interests in him last yr. Brown actually had better stats last year than Jones - 4.5 y/c for Brown vs 3.6 y/c for Jones. Jones was better in the passing game, though, gaining almost 9 y/r vs almost 7 y/r for Brown - that may have had something to do with the far superior Cowboy passing game, though. Through their careers they've been very similar, but Brown has a slight advantage in yards per carry career - 4.3 (Brown) vs 3.9 (Jones). I would probably take Brown over Jones, though like I said they're very similar RBs.

A little more Titans news since I'm sure everyone is sitting on the edge's of their seats waiting. Tennessee is apparently trying for a reunion year as the Titans have invited Justin McCareins in for a visit. They've also gotten visits from Drew Carter, Eugene Wilson, Terry Cousin (ugh), Ellis Wyms, Marques Douglas and Julius Jones (please, for the love of all that's holy, no). Out of that group, I wouldn't mind seeing McCareins and Wilson - not sure about the rest, though. Tennessean.com Oh yea, tight end Ben Troupe has also headed to Tampa Bay. Have fun with that blown first rounder Buc fans. Shoulda taken Ben Watson with the same pick...

Titans get a little bit Freaky. Jevon Kearse I like this move. So long as he's not counted on to be a full-time starter and we draft an end to play alongside him, I think this is a very good move. EDIT: Just read that the deal is for two years and worth $6 mil total. Plus a $1.3 mil signing bonus. Not bad - I was hoping for two or less years and got it. Now, we just need a young end to combine with him (and then one or two more cheap/young DTs) and the D-Line will be set.

LaDanian Tomlinson could be available and the Bears still shouldn't make that pick. With the passing game eroding and the offensive line coming off a relatively weak 2007 performance, defenses will be keying in on the Bears running game. The team should focus on solidifying the offensive line before any other offensive moves. I wouldn't go that far. You have to look at the value of the pick. I'm not convinced that with this OL fixed that Benson is the answer at RB. He has flashes where he looks, but the majority of the time he doesn't look good. There seems to be more depth in this draft at OL then play maker positions. If you have the opportunity to add a play maker to the offense and still add depth in later rounds I think you have to think about it. If McFadden's still sitting there at the Bears' pick, the best option for them might be to trade it. There are going to be teams lower down wanting McFadden and the Bears could fill a couple holes with that one pick. Jerry Jones might even hand over both firsts for McFadden. Those could turn into a solid O-lineman and a WR/RB/another OL.

I agree about Brohm as the top QB in the draft - I have yet to figure out why he's been forgotten about. Also, ya'll picked up Ben Hartsock today. Big time move for the Falcons. :D Looking at his stats I assume he is a blocking TE. Is this true? What should I expect out of him? From what I saw of him as a Titan, he's a very good blocking tight end and will catch a ball or two. He's not a receiving threat by any means, though. If you're happy with a good blocker who won't get his name mentioned much but will contribute, you'll like Hartsock. I think it was a good move by Atlanta.

NFL Network reporting the Raiders signed Gibril Wilson. This is a very good move in my opinion. He's a great tackler and his weak coverage skills should be hidden by Asomougha and other good cover DBs.
