  1. I figure if they want a coach who will not garner interest from NFL clubs or who will not have an interest in moving to the next level, it's likely that they won't have many good coaches. Part of having a great coach is the fear that he may leave for a better opportunity when one arises.
  2. The Jets are planning on interviewing Jeff Jagodzinski today and BC officials have told Jag that if he goes through with the interview, they will fire him.
  3. Thanks. That Tennessee team is generally thought of, it seems, as one of the weaker national champions. I disagree with that and it looks like this backs me up a bit.
  4. He certainly hasn't figured out how to take a friggin' walk yet But he can hit a single 30% of the time he steps to the plate . . . Touché Haha! Victory is mine! (If I knew how to post pictures, I'd post an image of Stewie. But I can't, so pretend there's one here) In the post window, click the "Img" button and enter the image link between (img) and (/img), just like you would do with a URL. http://www.thirdwayblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/stewie.jpg Sorry to drag this up from three pages back, but I just saw it now. Thanks Laurens! http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n298/caconfidential/victoryismine.jpg =D> Heck yea.
  5. Would you prefer that I pull a Vance and post in only emoticons for a while? I'm actually probably going to tone it down a bit. Since the Titans clinched the #1 seed a few weeks ago and the Vols didn't have a bowl game, I've had to expend my energy into Hendry's recent bad moves. Now, though, I'll be able to fret and worry about Saturday's playoff game for the Titans - which will distract me from the Transactions thread for a while. :D Before you go I'm hoping you could clarify how many games you think Bradley will miss. Haven't seen you comment on that much. ;) Nah, I'm going to keep that opinion under wraps for now. :ninja: Just to make this clear....Do you like this trade? :-$
  6. Ah, that probably helped the Sagarin ranking. Just out of curiosity, do you have the Sagarin ratings from the 1998 season? I don't know how far he goes back, but I'd be curious to see where UT's national championship ranks with the rest of the teams that year.
  7. I'm surprised Tennessee's not higher on that list. And you may be right on DJ Williams, I knew he went to Miami but couldn't remember his timeline off the top of my head.
  8. Florida could have hung with them. That Florida team might have been Spurriers' best. Rex should have won the Heisman Trophy. On the edge he had Jabar Gaffney, Reche Caldwell and Taylor Jacobs. Earnest Graham and Gillespie, the pass catching back at RB. I think Steve went something like 30-2 when Graham got more than 10 carries in a game. Ben Troupe and Aaron Walker at TE. On defense Lito Shepherd, Ratliff and Alex Brown. Yeah, you're right. Either Tennessee or Florida could've given em heck, but that Miami team was unreal. Ed Reed, Andre Johnson, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, Vince Wilfork, Dan Morgan, D.J. Williams (I think) are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. There was much more NFL talent on that team.
  9. Wasn't that the game where Rohan Davey was knocked out and Mauck came out of nowhere to beat you guys. And then disappeared until their championship season? Yep. Tennessee was up seven at halftime, Davey and LaBrandon Toefield went out in the third quarter and freaking Matt Mauck led them to the championship. Despite that result, that Tennessee offense was likely the only team that could have come close to hanging with Miami in the title game. We'd have probably lost by 14 or so, but I think it would have been competitive. That team had Casey Clausen, Kelley Washington, Donte Stallworth, Travis Stephens, Jason Witten and Fred Weary all on offense and Albert Haynesworth, John Henderson, Kevin Burnett, Rashad Baker, Jabari Greer and Will Overstreet all on defense. They were stacked - not like the 01 Miami team was stacked, but stacked nonetheless.
  10. Didn't he break a Florida player's leg or something? And a coach on a rival team that I would absolutely love to see coaching the Vols is Mark Richt. There are few players I simply could not root for under any circumstances, though Alex Brown comes pretty close after that six sack thrashing he gave the Vols. EDIT: Just out of morbid curiosity, it'd be really interesting to see Fulmer coaching Alabama. It'd never happen, but it'd be funny. He did two things. First, he twisted Earnest Graham's bum knee in the bottom of a dog pile, causing him to miss that 9/11 reschedule Vols game (where a win sends Spurrier to the national title...). In the same game, he tried to smash Rex Grossmans hand by stepping on it on the sideline. Yeah, I remember it now. The funny thing is, after we won that game we were a win-and-in for the national title. Then we lost to LSU and Matt Mauck in the SEC Championship game. :banghead: Then we utterly dismantled Michigan in the Outback Bowl.

  12. I really hope Ron Winter's crew (the one reffing the Colts/Chargers playoff game) doesn't ref the Titans game next week. As physical as that game will be, Winters may set a new record in penalties.

  14. In all honesty, if Tebow wasn't a Gator, I'd probably love him. If he came to Tennessee and had even close to the impact Kearse had in his rookie year, I'd be all for him. He'd likely never unseat Steve McNair as, perhaps, my favorite Titan, but he could come close. I like me some McNair, from his days as an Oiler. His terrible stats from 13 games in two years really turn you on, eh? I was like 9 or 10 and the Air McNair thing was big around here. Heck yea, Air McNair. Course, there wasn't really much accuracy to the "Air" thing til the 2000s. That guy was tough, though. Just don't tell Colt fans, it'll piss them off.
  15. I really doubt I would give 'em up, but I have no clue who I'd defect to if I did. I've always kinda liked MTSU and felt sorry for Vandy. How about you? How would you feel about Florida hiring Fulmer?

  17. Besides the utter horrificness of replacing (firing?) Jeff Fisher for either of those two, I'd hate it. With Meyer, I'd be interested to see if his offense worked in the NFL, but Spurrier is just a horrible, horrible NFL coach. I have a feeling I'd hate either, though. If it makes you feel better, the thought crossed my mind to disown the Vols if they had hired Steve Spurrier as head coach.
  18. I'm torn on this one. Regular season - college football by a wide margin Postseason - college basketball by a wider margin I guess I'll go college football, but if they'd implement a real postseason, it'd be college football in quite a landslide.

  20. Harvin to Indy? That'd be cool, but I'd be horrified that no Titan defenders could cover him. Peyton would love him, though, I'd say. I have no problem forgiving the misguided ways of former Gators. One of my favorite all-time Titans is Jevon Kearse.
  21. I'll love Harvin if he ends up in Titan blue next season (he won't, the Titans don't draft wide receivers).
  22. Any relation to Mike Debose?
  23. I don't have a link for this one since I heard it at some point today on one of the football stations (might well have been Adam Schefter on NFL Network) that the leading candidate for the Jets' head coaching job is Brian Schottenheimer. May not be a bad hire (Marty's son), but I'm betting there were some livid New Yorkers after hearing that news. Cowher is just waiting for the bears coaching position :) :-)) There we go.
  24. Giants This is probably the toughest game to pick, but New York will be well rested and I'm just not that comfortable in the Eagles putting together great games each week in the playoffs. They're too inconsistent. Philly can win, but Eli and the Giants will move to within one game of a chance to repeat.
