  1. Reed is worthwhile. The other two leave enough to be desired that they shouldn't be considered viable options for a supposed championship contender to fill in 40 games missed by one of its 3-4-5 hitters. Hoffs 2009 Projections: Marcel: 287/351/449 ZIPS: 286/323/505 Hoffs 2008 MLE vs righties: 317/350/610 I'm not saying hes going to be great or anything (and he needs to work on his defense in the OF), but hes a guy that shouldn't hurt you filling in on the meaty end of a platoon for a bit. Although, that would leave you with a big dropoff for PH in high leverage situations. I know you have to take these kinds of predictions with a grain of salt, but those numbers are a hell of a lot better than anything Burnitz, Jones, FLoyd, or Ward ever gave us, and I'll take it more than happily. Jacque out-OPS'd Hoff's Marcel prediction by a decent amount (Jones: .833, Hoff: .780) and his ZIPS by a little (Jones: .833, Hoff: .828). Floyd outdid the Marcel projection by a little as well: Floyd: .795, Hoff: .780
  2. Given that I expect around 85-90 games a year out of Bradley, I took the 300 games. I don't think 100 games a year from Bradley is worth $10 million dollars and the downgrade from DeRosa to Miles, but since this is the position we're in, it's the best case scenario.
  3. B- The playoff appearances and the (supposed at least) shift in ideology more toward OBP have bumped him up a bit and had him challenging for a B or B+. This offseason, however, has the potential to drop him down to a C or C+.
  4. how dare espn sully pacman's good name. He is an upstanding citizen and all . . . I think that's actually a valid defense against libel. A person whose reputation is so bad they are essentially libel-proof. "He's such a bad citizen that nothing we say could make his image worse," essentially?
  5. I wanted an 'other' option, but since there wasn't one, I went with North Dakota to piss off Truffle.
  6. how dare espn sully pacman's good name. He is an upstanding citizen and all . . .
  7. Wisconsin running back P.J. Hill is going to enter the draft, according to ESPN.
  8. This isn't about the playoffs, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless: The Cowboys have cut Pacman Jones. Not a surprise at all, I just wish since it was going to happen that it would have before the Titans had to surrender a pick for him. Apparently ESPN dug up the story on the incident at the bar and now Pacman's pissed at them.
  9. I doubt Tebow's stock is going to change much in a year's time. Harvin should leave because he can't stay healthy and Spikes probably can't go anywhere but down. Noah lost millions by staying another year (although he avoided being labeled an enormous bust as opposed to just the garden variety bust he is) and both Horford and Brewer helped themselves a ton by staying. If Tebow can improve on his accuracy, he might (emphasis on might) raise his stock some. But, I tend to think a team might just take a chance on him were he to come out this year. The obvious choices will go before him (Stafford, Sanchez, Bradford), but a team might grab him late first, early second or so figuring they'll try him at QB and if it doesn't work out, they've got a heck of an athlete to move elsewhere. Harvin and Spikes I agree with you on.
  10. WR WR WR WR WR WR WR WR WR WR WR WR WR WR WR Yeah, they've gone RB or secondary usually, but WR is a glaring need. I agree with you completely, but I'm not confident the Titans feel the same way. Fisher/Heimerdinger love McCareins and Gage and Brandon Jones have played fairly well. Those three, combined with Crumpler and Scaife may be enough for them to draft elsewhere. And honestly, I wouldn't terribly mind them looking at CBs, LBs, or OL/DLs to replace aging players. Harper and Keith Bulluck both have very few years of great play left (Harper less than Bulluck) and we'll need a young guy to be able to plug in there.
  11. Trust me, I'd love it if they didn't, but I'm resigning myself to the idea that they will. They've taken a running back in the first or second round each of the past three seasons (LenDale, Chris Henry, Chris Johnson). I'm hoping they won't do it again this year since they should be happy with their RB duo and their is no super athlete likely to be available where they'll pick.
  12. I could see the Titans taking Shonn Greene in the first or second round. I'm at the point now where I'm assuming they'll take a running back in the first or second round each draft and since the last two (Chris Johnson and Chris Henry) were more athletic, faster guys, I figure a bigger back to compete with LenDale would be in order. If I had my way, though, I'd hope they would look at a corner to replace Nick Harper or - if they don't bring Albert back - a large defensive tackle. I could see Trevard Lindley or Mike Mickens as possibilities at CB or perhaps Sen'Derrick Marks or Peria Jerry at DT. Of course, I'm probably very, very wrong given the Titans' draft history.
  13. maybin says he's coming back; let's hope he sticks to that. he'd probably go top 10 if he comes out. i could see williams working his way up into round 3 because he'll probably show well at the combine. I could see D-Will even going in Round 2. I also think Butler and Scirrotto could go in later rounds. Norwood is small and will go undrafted, IMO. AQ Shipley could be a first rounder. Yeah, I think Derrek Williams is a day 1 guy (err, the old day 1 with 3 rounds). I hate having just two rounds on Day 1. They should have left it the way it was - much better then.
  14. So they save $4.875 on this one, but are down one starter and up one more mediocre reliever. Exactly. Marquis has never been lights out, but I have a feeling fans will regret this trade later this season. I am going to wait to see who the 5th starter is and how he does before I will see if I may regret the trade. It's not the fifth starter I'm worried about. It's the sixth starter when Harden gets hurt that worries me. I really think we need one more good (to great) starter.
  15. I'd most definitely take the under on the Baltimore/Tennessee game.
  16. Georgia's Rodney Garner has decided not to come to Tennessee. This sucks. Maybe this will open the door to Trooper Taylor coming back. . .
  17. I figure if they want a coach who will not garner interest from NFL clubs or who will not have an interest in moving to the next level, it's likely that they won't have many good coaches. Part of having a great coach is the fear that he may leave for a better opportunity when one arises. BC probably wouldn't do this if they didn't have their offensive coordinator, Steve Logan, as a safety net for their next coach. Yeah, but much like the Raiders' problems, if you screw around with your coaches long enough, you'll start to have trouble finding quality coaches. If BC does this to Jagodzinski, who's to say they won't do it to Logan if they have a good up-and-coming coordinator in the wings? At some point, they may no longer have the good coaches interested in them because the coaches will be afraid they'll be fired for thinking about the NFL.
  18. Yeah, there's a chance it happens this offseason, but I'd be very surprised if they can him after the division title and being competitive with the Eagles in the first round. Had they gotten manhandled, it might be different. I felt though besides the 40yarder by Peterson they kinda did get manhandled well at least in the second half in felt like it Without the 70-yard screen to Westbrook, though, the Eagle offense was doing very little. Without the 70-yarder, Philly's offense amassed less than 300 yards offensively. Take away Peterson's 40-yard run and the Vikings are in the 280 area of offensive yardage. It was just 16-14 Philly into the fourth quarter, as well. True, but didn't the Vikes have like 6 straight possessions with punts and only 68yards in the second half? I mean I feel like the Vikings got most of the yards in first half Philly had drives in the second half of 12, 1, 8, 1, 3 and 6 plays. Minny had drives in the second half of 7, 3, 3, 5, 3, 5 and 6 plays. One of Philly's one-play drives was a fumble (the first) and one was Westbrook's TD. Everything else was a punt, except for the FG on the final drive. Minnesota had all punts until the fumble on the second to last drive that set up Philly's FG. Once again, take away Westbrook's 70-yard screen and they were fairly evenly matched. Yeah I guess it was...just seemed more one sided to me cause besides Peterson Minn looked horrible offensively Minnesota doesn't have a very good offense, though, so anytime they get behind it's going to be tough to come back. The Titans face similar issues, but Kerry Collins is a bit more adept at bringing an offense back than is Tarvaris Jackson. That's not something I'd blame on the coach, though, unless he has significant say in the personnel. Childress coached a good game against the Eagles, I think, and the Vikings were competitive. It's just that Philly's a better team than Minnesota.

  21. Saturday, Jan. 10 4:30 p.m. ET - #6 Baltimore Ravens @ #1 Tennessee Titans CBS 8:15 p.m. ET - #4 Arizona Cardinals @ #2 Carolina Panthers Fox Sunday, Jan. 11 1 p.m. ET - #6 Philadelphia Eagles @ #1 New York Giants Fox 4:45 p.m. ET - #4 San Diego Chargers @ #2 Pittsburgh Steelers CBS Should be three good games for sure, I'm not certain the Cards can hang with the Panthers, though. As long as my tickets arrive as expected, I will be in attendance at the Titans game - which hopefully will be awesome.

  23. Yeah, I have been keeping my eyes open. I'd suggest signing him to a rehab contract, but I'm sure that bridge is burned. I'd rather sign him for 4.9 mil the next two years than Aaron Miles, but that's me. Seriously? That'd likely be a complete waste of $5 million. Not that Miles isn't, but at least he can cover 2B. I think his point is that Miles is guaranteed to be a waste of $5 million, whereas there's the slight possibility that Prior could regain some level of his old form.
  24. Completely agree on the first two points, just not the third. I don't think it would matter to me regardless of what kind of postseason college football had. March Madness kicks all kinds of ass and nothing comes close to beating it. March Madness is unbelievably awesome, but there would just be something specially awesome about a college football playoff. I think it'd be better even than March Madness.
