  1. Hence why I put "re-signs" in the title and "avoiding arbitration" in the post. Should this have gone in General Discussions? No, I'm just saying that's why he got 10M a year. Ah, now I understand.
  2. well, that .959 OPS is from last year... far better than any other year he's had. career OPS is about 100 points lower. still though, very good deal for the Sox. He'll regress, but I don't think he'll go under a .900 OPS. Didn't realize he was 29, though. I thought he was 27 or so.

  4. Which he'll still be playing half his games in.
  5. Red Sox signed Kevin Youkilis to a 4-year, $40 million deal, avoiding arbitration. $10 mil a year for a .959 OPS seems pretty good.
  6. He has a decent chance of being a first-day pick this year, especially with his strong and accurate arm. Next year's QB class looks to be much better. He stands to make more money leaving now, even with his underwhelming last two games as a collegian. And of course, you never know what could happen a year from now, but right now there are a lot of teams that look to have open starting positions for 2009 and Davis has a good shot of playing early. I would say he has a much higher chance than decent now that Bradford is staying. That makes him the third highest rated QB by Scouts Inc. and most other draft sites/experts. Him, Sanchez, Stafford and Freeman are really the only ones who are considered possible franchise QB's and with all the teams needing one I can't see how all four aren't drafted in the first two rounds. Rhett Bomar is a very interesting sleeper in this draft. He won't be one of the first QBs taken (unless the combine vaults him up like crazy), but he might be the most talented of them all. Someone is likely to get a great deal in the 3rd or 4th round.
  7. whatever it is, it's probably held by Raisin in the Minor Leagues forum Yeah, I was afraid one of those would be pretty lengthy. It doesn't matter anyway, because you broke my streak.
  8. Ohio State CB Donald Washington has declared for the draft. This doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
  9. I've got to be coming close to that record by now. The Titans have officially lost Jim Schwartz. ESPN is reporting the Lions have hired the Tennessee DC to a four-year contract to be their new head coach. This makes me worry a bit about the defense, but I'm happy for Schwartz - this was well-deserved.
  10. With Terrelle Pryor as the QB full-time next year, Hartline may not get many opportunities to catch footballs. This may be the highest his stock will be.
  11. He can't be worried about replacing him. He's got five or six 5-star QBs waiting in the wings.
  12. UGA cornerback Asher Allen is also turning pro.
  13. I wonder what the record is for most consecutive posts in a thread by the same poster? Anyway, the Saints have hired Gregg Williams as their DC. Thanks to the Lions taking their sweet time picking a head coach Williams is off the table if Jim Schwarz is the man in Detroit. That likely means Dave McGinnis will be promoted in Tennessee if Schwarz leaves.
  14. I agree with him to the extent that I don't trust prospects the Braves trade away. More times than not (and I believe a pretty wide margin) they don't amount to anything. Horacio Ramirez, Andy Marte, Damian Moss, Ruben Quevedo, Joey Nation are all examples purely off the top of my head. They've been excellent at identifying young talent and getting rid of the young non-talent at premium prices. What premium price did they get for Joey Nation and Ruben Quevedo? Terry Mulholland actually put up a 151 ERA+ in 98 (the year before the trade). He and Jose Hernandez weren't exactly great players, but considering the best player the Cubs got back was Micah Bowie - and he never did a thing for the Cubs, his success came later - it was a decent return for the Braves. Premium may have been the wrong word. More like good value for busts, I guess. Moss brought back a still decent Russ Ortiz, Marte netted Edgar Renteria, Ramirez brought in Rafael Soriano, etc.

  16. You may be right about the rest of the team, but I'm not sure a disciplinarian head coach would do much good for TO. Look at his relationship with Bill Parcells. He was still a circus, even with a strong personality at HC.
  17. Just about to post this. He hit 15-of-22 shots including 10-of-15 3-pointers. Also hit all 14 free throws. Most points in a single game in Kentucky history. And looking at his stats, he's also had a 46 point game (hit 9 threes), and games of 39, 37 and 32 (hit 8 threes). The old record was 53 points, set by Dan Issel way back in the 1969-70 season. Issel also had a 51-point game the same season. The ESPN game announcers are talking Meeks up as a possible national player of the year contender. And not mentioned in the previous posts was that the game was at Tennessee (who had a long home winning streak going), and Kentucky won 90-72. didnt gonzaga snap that streak last week? Yep, they beat us at home in OT. We hadn't lost a home game all of last year and to that point this year. Now we've lost two straight. And that Gonzaga game was the first UT game I've been to in the Bruce Pearl era. #-o
  18. Neither are very good, Lo Duca is better offensively and Bako is better defensively. If Lo Duca comes really cheap I might prefer him, but Bako will probably be the better value.
  19. No idea where to post this, but it could end up being pretty big news - so I'm going with this thread. The always-beloved "sources" are now saying the Cowboys may consider cutting TO.
  20. That's what's going to cost him a 1st round selection probably. It could be fixable (and a team will definitely give him the opportunity) or he could turn into Byron Leftwich.
  21. And the fact that he really, really sucks. His stats weren't terrible for being on a bad team, though. 58.6% completions, 7.71 yards per completion, 20:8 TD:INT ratio and 136.5 QB rating The stats may not tell the whole story, but those numbers will be tantalizing - especially with his great size and speed. He looks like he has a lot of potential.
  22. Matt Leinart was a top-10 pick when he came out. Sure, it's not No. 1, but it's not like he dropped into the second round or anything like that. He still got paid big time and it wasn't a stupid move to come back to USC for a year. Leinart was projected as top 2 or 3 pick after their National Title Win against Oklahoma. He choose to come back when he had nothing to prove in college football, and he dropped to 10th to Arizona where he's still riding the pine behind Warner. Leinart was projected as a top 2 or 3 pick the year he came out, too. In other news, that sound you just heard was Mitch Mustain cheering emphatically. And Aaron Corp. If I had to guess, I'd say Corp will be the starter next season. Would I be completely out of line calling Mitch Mustain an idiot? He could have gone just about anywhere else and been an immediate starter - leading to a much higher likelihood of a lucrative NFL contract. Instead, he's likely going to have to take the Matt Cassell route to the NFL. But at least he's getting California babes there.

  24. Jim Harbaugh is no longer a candidate for an NFL job.
  25. Not a certainty, but "sources" are saying he likely will. Might as well add Williams as one who's coming back as well.
