  1. Not going to be easy after the 4 year deal without eating big bucks. Why would the Cubs have to eat big bucks? The going rate for guys who pitch 200 innings, strike people out and have era's below 4 is between 11-13m these days. Dempsters probably gonna end up with numbers like Lilly had in 07-08(which is quality number 2-3 starter). So if we did trade Dempster(which we won't), I don't see why we would have to eat salary. Unless he has a drop off in production he's not really overpaid. Now if he can start pitching like he did in 08 again he will be very underpaid actually. But I don't expect him to pitch that good and I don't think the Cubs did either. The three years after this one would be the hindrance if the Cubs were to try to trade Dempster. He'll be 35 when the contract ends and that might worry some teams.
  2. Signing Pedro has a chance one way or another of strengthening the bullpen. That would help a weakness on the team (though a lessening one).
  3. Yeah, Soriano's a good player but that contract was not the best of ideas.
  4. Milton has had some issues in the past, but looking at the team record with him in the lineup this year doesn't mean much of anything. We're hovering near .500 with him in the lineup and the overall record is hovering around .500 as well. There's really nothing to draw from that. I also haven't heard of any issues Milton has had this season, so I doubt he's a negative impact when he's not doing anything negative off the field.
  5. 20-27 in games he's participated in some way in 18-20 in games he's started
  6. it'd be nice if he at least yelled at Bradley and Soriano for slacking out there in the outfield. What good would result from that, do you think? ](*,) -Not going to win this argument even if i do dispute it. I'm tired of waiting around and watching Soriano swing at every pitch that comes even near him, yet he still leads the team in RBI's I believe. What a joke. It's frustrating to me too to see Soriano struggle like this. Bradley as well. But Lou pitching a fit in their face isn't likely to do anything but irritate them. If there was a quick and easy fix like that, I'd say Lou/Perry/Joshua/Trammel/somebody would have done it already.

  8. Oh great' date=' what reason are they giving?[/quote'] Tax issues, final purchase price (Ricketts trying to negotiate down). I didn't see if they mentioned anything about broadcasting rights. Wow, this sale truly may never end....
  9. Yes, an argument was made that he could be. But Bradley was always going to be a boom or bust situation as well. But Hendry has to be held responsible when his decisions fail. He gets extensions for back to back winning seasons. If this year's team doesn't make the playoffs, or possibly even finish below .500, the new owner is going to have great incentive to can him. I pretty much agree with this. Oh great, what reason are they giving?
  10. He's actually averaged around 340 plate appearances a year in his career. His injuries and time missed is the biggest argument against him being more productive than Dunn, but Dunn's defense hurts him very badly. Injuries, time off and the fact that he was most productive as a DH, not a regular RF. Because he's clearly not a good fielder anyway and there's no way it provides any significant advantage over Dunn in the debate. I agree that Dunn is better and should have been the choice, but the argument was made pretty well in the offseason that Bradley could be better. Again, I didn't agree with it but that doesn't make it a poor argument.

And dew is definitely not a fan of Bradley I don't hate him, but would definitely have preferred Dunn.
  12. I haven't seen that specifically, but there's plenty of dropping easy fly balls, muffing slow roller grounders, throwing the ball directly into the ground and (not 100% sure of this) but I think I remember a ball bouncing off his head and over the fence for a home run (ala Devil Ray Canseco). He also has a career -44.6 UZR/150 in right field. That's worse than Ryan Braun at third base.

  14. Dunn was available and I think the Cubs considered him to a point. But Hendry seemed focused on Bradley. Also, while I was in favor of Dunn, there was definitely a good argument to be made in the offseason that Bradley would be more productive.
  15. Unless this team tanks, I don't think he's forced out after this year. Despite the playoff collapses he's still led us to more than 170 wins the last two years. And he's also a big reason the team has been this good, bringing in a very good coaching staff and a successful philosophy (overall). I think it'd take a couple bad seasons for management to consider letting Lou go and it's likely he'll be gone willfully if that happens.
  16. He's talked about it, but he hasn't done it prior to this year. He's gotten riled up before this year. Not to umpires though (which is where people are clamoring most for him to show passion). The only time he really did was that game in 2007, and he admitted afterward that he planned to blow up beforehand, which is quite a different thing from getting riled up. He's gotten riled up at relievers before this year, but he also has done so this year (Cotts for example). I don't see a big change in Lou from past years to this year. And his one blow up at an umpire was pretty gentle by Lou's standards (especially since it was pre-determined). I just don't see where everybody gets that he's disinterested or has lost his passion. I don't see the evidence.
  17. When was the last game that was won by passion ???? Passion doesn't win baseball games. Good hitting and good pitching wins baseball games. Take all that passion and store it at body temperature and out of direct sunlight. I don't think passion wins, but I am just saying that the fact that Lou is a screamer who isn't screaming could very easily indicate his passion is declining. I never said I liked his ranting and raving, but that is who he is, or maybe, who he was. He's talked ever since his time with Fox that he planned to be much cooler and calmer. There are plenty of times while with the Cubs that he would have blown up in the past, but has stayed under control. From his own words it's not a lack of passion, it's an intentional calming down.
  18. Guzman would actually be tempting if he came cheap, but he's signed through 2010 so I'm not interested. Especially since he's scheduled to make $8 million next year.
  19. I wouldn't give Marshall for either of those two. Where would Willingham play, by the way? It all depends if theres any substance to the Soriano to 2nd banter. Willingham isn't the bat I'd want to move Soriano to second for. I'd want somebody substantial - a Holliday type - before I'd consider it a good move.
  20. I wouldn't give Marshall for either of those two. Where would Willingham play, by the way?
  21. Citizen Kane is on TCM. Family Guy marathon on TBS.
  22. Yeah, Bruce Miles just said that weather will likely be an issue all week for us. At some point you just start to think it just isn't our year. Maybe we're getting all the bad luck out of the way in the first half. Leaving nothing but sunshine and hot play for the second half and postseason. :D
  23. Yeah, Bruce Miles just said that weather will likely be an issue all week for us.
  24. Awesome what are we down like 4 games now? 1 game each with the White Sox, Astros and Braves now I believe. There might be one more game that's been called as well.
  25. Yep, Len and Bob just announced game's been called. No makeup date has been set.
