  1. Despite the missed field goal before the half, that was a great first half for Tennessee. 9-3 Bama and Tennessee gets the ball first out of the break. We need some points to start the third quarter.
  2. They haven't moved the ball with any consistency outside of the Wildcat formation.
  3. Great red zone stand by the Vols. 9-3 Bama with 1:13 left in the half.
  4. Bama's gashing our defense with the Wildcat.
  5. The problem is that they're giving up FGs. I don't see them putting many TDs on the board against Bama. They'd be in good shape if they just took away the dump off to Jones (the only pass McElroy is capable of completing) and stopped kicking it off to the 15-20 yard line. Yeah, touchdowns would be nice, but if the game gets very high scoring, we won't win it. They seem to be playing defensively to avoid the big play, which explains why Jones hasn't been open deep but they're giving hi the short passes. Also, as bad as the special teams has been this year, kicking it to Javier Arenas is not a good idea.
  6. This Bama/Tennessee game has been great so far.
  7. They'll keep him if he's the starter, but the likelihood of them trusting him as the starter with no playing time the past two years is slim. what would he have to do to justify dropping $14 million on him next year? In my mind, it's just not feasible. I mean, he would have to just be phenomenal for the remainder of the season to even begin to erase the doubts that have popped up. Consider, though, that they still have to pay him the guaranteed amount if they cut him (not sure what that is, I haven't looked at his contract in a while) plus they'd probably have to draft a QB high in the 2010 draft and pay him a significant amount of money. It might be cheaper in the long run to give Vince a shot to be the starter and see if he can break through. That said, if they cut him I wouldn't be completely surprised.

  9. I completely agree that the difference in production should be looked at more in depth - and I think most, if not all, teams will - but they're likely to play a factor, just like Bradford's injury this season will even if it is fully healed by the combine. Production shouldn't be the most important factor, but it will be a factor. Sure it'll be a factor and it's probably the single biggest reason Clausen could return in '10. But I doubt it, since he's likely to be one of the first 2 QBs taken and a top 5 pick. But I have trouble with the idea that production as a freshman on a crap team has the same importance as 2 injuries, one requiring significant surgery, to the throwing shoulder of a QB. Seems that has a much bigger impact on draft status, or should, imo. It's not really 2 injuries, it's a reinjury of one. I think it will be a bigger factor if the injury is not deemed fully recovered by the combine. If there are any thoughts that it it not healed up, then Bradford may drop quite a bit.

  11. How did I forget Holliday, Bay and Crawford when I posted the list? That's what I get for posting at work. Those three are better, but much more costly, I'd say. Most is probably the right term to use. Even if he's better than most, though, my point still stands - there is interest in Bradley because he's one of the best avenues to improving a team this offseason.
  12. That can't possibly be true. That Bradley is better than most of the free agent outfielders? I'd say it probably is. Here they are: You said "far and away the best player available this offseason". Better than most free agent outfielders is a completely different statement. Far and away is probably exaggeration, but he is the best outfielder on the market - save for maybe Cameron.
  13. That can't possibly be true. That Bradley is better than most of the free agent outfielders? I'd say it probably is. Here they are: Bobby Abreu LAA (A) Garret Anderson ATL (B) Rick Ankiel STL Rocco Baldelli BOS Jason Bay BOS (A) Marlon Byrd TEX (B) Mike Cameron MIL (B) Frank Catalanotto TEX Endy Chavez SEA Coco Crisp * KC Carl Crawford * TB (B) Johnny Damon NYY (A) David Dellucci CLE Jermaine Dye * CWS (A) Darin Erstad HOU Cliff Floyd SD Ryan Freel TEX Brian Giles SD (B) Ken Griffey Jr. SEA Vladimir Guerrero LAA (A) Eric Hinske NYY Matt Holliday STL (A) Geoff Jenkins * PHI Reed Johnson CHC Andruw Jones TEX Gabe Kapler TB Austin Kearns * WAS Mark Kotsay CHW Hideki Matusi NYY (B) Jason Michaels CLE Xavier Nady NYY (B) Magglio Ordonez * DET Scott Podsednik CHW Manny Ramirez * LAD (A) Dave Roberts SF Gary Sheffield NYM Fernando Tatis NYM (B) Randy Winn SF (B)
  14. You think teams showing interest in Bradley don't realize there are going to be free agents available? I didn't say that now, did I? What I was saying before you attempted to put words in my mouth is that there might be discussion about Bradley now, but that's because the GM's around the league don't really have much else to discuss since a bunch of FA's can't be spoken to until they file for free agency. Bradley will probably still be a Cub when the free agent filing day comes. And once that day comes, he will become a forgotten man. With the possible exception of Mike Cameron, Bradley is far and away the best player available this offseason. That is where the interest is coming from - if a team wants a significant upgrade, Bradley is about the best they'll get.
  15. I've liked everything I've heard about Bulaga, but hadn't heard much about his thyroid condition. If he can close out the year well and have a good combine (if he leaves early), it wouldn't surprise me if they overlooked a poor start to the year.
  16. Suh would definitely be a top option for them, but Bulaga would fit into that LT need as well. The reason I went Bulaga over Suh is that this draft is deep in DTs moreso than OTs. pop quiz: without looking, tell me who their two starting DTs are, or even just one Chuck Darby is one, I think. I know the other one but I can't recall him off the top of my head.
  17. They almost have to, though. If they trade Quinn, they free up some there and then they have an expensive backup. I just don't see either QB excelling there since Mangini doesn't appear to have faith in either. The franchise would be far better off at this point trading one of the two and drafting a QB. If they don't go QB, I think they have to trade down. They have so many needs and, in all honesty, moving just outside the top 10 and focusing on Dez Bryant might be their best option other than going the QB route. They simply won't be willing to drop 8-10 mil a year on another QB. They already dropped alot on Anderson and quite a bit on Quinn. If they don't take a QB, they should trade down. They might should trade down anyway and then take a QB in the second or third round (Devlin, Hiller, etc).
  18. From what I've heard, Bulaga sounds better, but I'm no expert on the two. In my hypothetical, the Bucs could well go with Suh. I could also see the Titans go in that direction as well.
  19. Suh would definitely be a top option for them, but Bulaga would fit into that LT need as well. The reason I went Bulaga over Suh is that this draft is deep in DTs moreso than OTs. I don't see Bulaga leaving early and if he does, I don't see him still going in the top 10. He's missed 3 games this year with that thyroid condition. It won't have any lasting effects but that will leave him with less than 2 years of film as a tackle. More importantly he has not been good since his return. He had an awful game against Wisconsin on Saturday and was beat multiple times for tackles for loss/QB hits. Same against Michigan the prior week. Much of it is probably due to missing 3 weeks of practice, but I think he'll need another year if he wants to be a top 10-15 pick. Interesting, thanks. Everything I had read indicated he had a good chance of leaving early, which was why I was making the assumption. That's part of why this is so premature, though - who knows who will actually leave early.

  22. Florida State is attempting a comeback against North Carolina right now. Down 24-6 at one point, the Seminoles have fought back to down 24-19 (pending the result of a 2-point review).
  23. This is extremely early, but I'm bored so I figured I'd do this. Here is the current top 10 teams in the draft if the season ended today (note: I'm not sure how to break ties, so we'll go with point differential): 1. Rams 2. Titans 3. Bucs 4. Lions 5. Browns 6. Chiefs 7. Raiders 8. Bills 9. Redskins 10. Seahawks Out of that group, I see 6 teams with the potential to draft a QB (StL, Ten, Cle, Buf, Was, Sea). There's a very good chance we could see 2-3 QBs go in the top 10 picks, maybe 2 in the top 5. With that order, my somewhat educated (though highly premature) guess on the top 5 picks would be this: 1. Rams - Bradford/Clausen/Locker 2. Titans - Berry (a little bit of hoping, I admit) 3. Bucs - Gerald McCoy (I think he fits their system a bit better than Suh) 4. Lions - Bryan Bulaga 5. Browns - Bradford/Clausen/Locker That leaves guys like Suh, Mays and 1 of the 3 QBs out of the top 5. This draft has some really nice top end talent, I think.
  24. I like Vince and was very happy when we drafted him. A lot of people, I think, evaluate him the same way they evaluate Vick - purely as a passer and don't take his running ability into account (not saying you are, but many do). I still think Vince can be a good NFL QB, but he'll need to show a lot of improvement from his second season. As for this year, Kerry would probably be the better QB, but I don't know if the team is that much worse with Vince in there. The receivers have struggled to catch the ball, so having Vince's running ability would help some. That said, Vince should be the starter against Jacksonville and for the rest of the year so that Reinfeldt/Fisher know whether they need to draft a QB in the 2010 draft or just give Vince the keys to the offense.
  25. Interesting. I wouldn't have thought that.
