  1. How did your illini do in their bowl? abuck's an Iowa State fan.
  2. Troy's field goal was blocked. Central Michigan now has the ball with a chance to win it.
  3. Touchdown Troy. Extra point is good and we're going to double OT.
  4. This GMAC Bowl has been really good. Troy's a yard away from tying the game in the first OT.
  5. Both could be better than Fontenot or Baker, but I don't think either will be better enough to give them a multi-year deal. Hudson is probably a better bet to be an improvement (because of his three straight .800+ OPS seasons before last year), but Lopez is a pretty good bet to be right around a .770 or so OPS - which a Fontenot/Baker platoon could probably match or come close to.
  6. tassel coached xfl jr this year, he will take what he can get. And nobody is going to assume it's just one year. If they do well lovie will be back, if just the off does well the oc will be prime hc candidate. Fassell is the rumored front runner for the Raider job should Al Davis let Cable go. He'll probably wait on word from that before accepting an OC job with the Bears.
  7. He could also play a corner outfield spot every now and then. I wouldn't put him out there daily, but it's one way to get him a few extra at bats. Yeah, he's worse defensively in the outfield, I believe, which is why I didn't mention those spots. Ideally whoever we bring in to platoon with Kosuke would be the guy to spell Soriano at times as well, but Branyan's got too good a bat to leave him on the bench for lengthy periods of time.
  8. 100% behind this move. It's why I'd have preferred keeping Fox instead of spending him on another right-handed middle reliever. Branyan would be a pretty significant upgrade over Fox, though. He's a little better defensively, I think, and much better offensively. With the depth/injury issues on this team we could use some guys like Branyan who we know can perform at a high level (for a bench player) instead of someone who has yet to show he can consistently hit at the major league level.
  9. I'd love to see the Cubs bring in Russell Branyan as a bench player. He'd be really nice depth behind Lee and Aramis.
  10. This is the important thing. Even before Holliday, they were definitely a stars and scrubs team. Now they're committing a huge portion of their payroll to Pujols, Holliday, Carpenter, and Lohse. Only for 2010 and 2011. And the team is in good position to win the division those two years. Not really an issue. In 2012 they'll probably be paying 60 million for Pujols, Holliday, Lohse, and Wainwright. 75 million if they keep Carpenter. We'll be doing the same with Soriano, Dempster, Ramirez, and Zambrano (assuming Aramis doesn't opt out). $68 million to be precise (according to Cots). Not trying to justify or make a point, just saying we're in the same boat. We'll be in better shape, though, because (I would assume) our payroll will still be in the $130+ range. The Cardinals will have to bump up their payroll from the current $88-100 million they've been at to be able to have any other non-rookies on the roster.
  11. Like this the most. I want Lopez more than Hudson though. I think Lopez should hit lead off if we sign him though. Lopez has been too inconsistent for a multi-year deal, I think. If we could get him on a 1-year deal, I might have some interest, but generally he's only been a slight upgrade over Baker/Fontenot and wouldn't be enough of an upgrade for a 2-3 year deal. And that's assuming Baker's year last year was a complete fluke. I'd be much more interested in Hudson, but not on a big money deal. If we could get him for a 2-year, $5 million per year deal, I might consider it. Any more and I'd lose interest.
  12. I like keeping Fisher. However, he probably needs to make a deep playoff run next year. Bud's getting impatient for a ring.
  13. Yea I was hoping Tennessee's strong finish may have helped end all the FIsher leaving stuff. But more than likely if they struggle out of the gate again Fisher will be gone probably. It may take a playoff run next year and maybe even a serious Super Bowl contention for Fisher to be retained after next season. As for Heimerdinger, I think he did something like that when he left the Titans to go to the Jets. He thought he'd have a chance at a higher profile place like that to be noticed and maybe even take over for the likely outgoing coach, but was then passed over (I believe) for Mangini. He then went to Denver to work with Shanahan. With Fisher in doubt, I don't see him leaving the Titans unless it's for a HC job.
  14. Here's the draft order, though with the playoff teams still in doubt. Rams 1, Lions 2 and Bucs 3 are the top of the draft.
  15. I don't see a problem with this on a minor league deal. If he helps, he's cheap productivity. If he doesn't, he doesn't cost anything and you're not competing anyway. I like it for the Pirates.
  16. I haven't looked at their week-by-week stuff yet. I'd be interested to see how much Finnegan improved as the season went along (if at all).
  17. They have Michael Griffin as the worst safety in the league. Ouch.
  18. Unless Noel Devine declares, he is too fast for the Raiders to pass up. Could the Raiders go McCluster in the first round? Normally I'd say no because they have Bush, Fargas and McFadden but it is Al Davis so who knows. Maybe he'll take another RB and just get rid of the QB altogether. Or he'll go RB in the first and Tebow later. Whoever the best player left on the board with the most speed is Al's likely target. I wasn't serious about the McCluster suggestion, but like you said, it is Al Davis. They could take Spiller and run the triple option maybe.
  19. The game wasn't that meaningful for the Bengals, I'd be surprised if they showed much of their gameplan last night. I agree but trying or not there's no excuse for your starting QB to go 1-11 for 0 bet yards or for your entire offense to gain the least amount of net yards in franchise history. Combine that with how poor they've been playing as of late and things aren't great in Bengal land heading into the playoffs. This is true. There's room for some optimism, though, as the Jets showed exactly how they wanted to play the Bengals last night, while there's still some mystery about how the Bengals will gameplan the Jets. If they don't play better, though, it won't matter.
  20. The game wasn't that meaningful for the Bengals, I'd be surprised if they showed much of their gameplan last night.
  21. I hadn't thought of converting him to tackle. That'd be an interesting idea, but not sure it'd work well.
  22. The Sproles comparison is more likely, but if he delivers a low 4.3 40 at the combine, a team may overdraft in hopes of emulating the CJ experience. I'd be surprised to see him go higher than the 2nd round due to size, though.
  23. Yeah, I can definitely see where the longer distance would favor Bolt signicantly. After CJ's long run of 91 yards, he collapsed exhausted in the end zone and ended up puking.
  24. Unless Noel Devine declares, he is too fast for the Raiders to pass up. Could the Raiders go McCluster in the first round? McCluster's my hope for the Lions in the 3rd (after Suh, Iupati first two) You think McCluster will last that long? 2nd round seems the latest he'd stay, due to explosiveness and playmaking ability (and teams looking for another CJ). Iupati really should be the first guard off the board, I'd have to think in the first round.
  25. I would love to see that. I think Bolt would win, but CJ could give him a fight.
