  1. I love Boise State's field and I love that idea. All the schools with green as their primary color are gonna be pissed they can't participate in this trend. Ah, but they are already participating in the trend. In fact, they were the trailblazers.
  2. Fuld isn't a star, but Byrnes has really been bad the last few years. Fuld would be hard pressed to not top Byrnes' .663 and .641 OPS' from the past two seasons. And that's without considering defense at all.
  3. You'll get Da'rick Rogers, this will be a good pick up for you guys. As for James Stone, had Lane Kiffin not left for USC, Tennessee would have no shot at Stone as James will did not like Lane Kiffin, but since he left I think Stone to Tenn is all but guarantee. Alabama has all but given up on Stone and are in the middle of turning Shon Coleman from Auburn. So you guys will be getting a helluva WR and OL, so congrats. Yeah I hadn't heard that about Stone until today, but I like our chances with him now. Rogers is a bit more unpredictable, but with his affinity toward Nance, and the fact that he likes Tennessee as much as he does, I think we've got a good shot at him. Since being hired with 3 weeks until signing day, Dooley has now gotten 4-star WR Justin Hunter committed, gotten JUCO TE Michael Rivera (started at Cal) and gotten us significantly into play on Rogers and Stone. I feel really good about his recruiting ability right now.
  4. Yeah, it's the novelty and creativity that I like. If 75% of schools did it, it'd lose those aspects.
  5. 3-star QB Nash Nance committed to Tennessee today. Not groundbreaking in and of itself, but Nance is very good friends with Da'Rick Rogers, one of the top WR prospects in the nation. Rogers already has included Tennessee in his consideration for schools, so his buddy Nash coming to UT can only help. Also, word is 4-star OL prospect James Stone is not only considering UT again, but has them at the top of his list. It's between Alabama and Tennessee for him. Dooley's done a very good job so far considering.

  7. Even for a second TJS? I've heard many times that a second TJS comes with a lower success rate than the initial TJS. If there was anything wrong with him, wouldn't the Cubs have found it? If he didn't check out on the physical the Cubs wouldn't have signed him. And even if he's a little slow to return to form this year (which is possible) he's still a significantly better option than a 36-year old declining Jermaine Dye.
  8. A chance, but not much of one. Players have a roughly 80-90% chance of recovering from TJS and for position players it's roughly 6 months (according to an earlier link) to heal from it. It's been more than 6 months since he had the surgery done (or will be by the start of the season). He may be slow to produce early on, but he should be fine as the season progresses.
  9. It's the colts, of course Peyton would make the recievers look good. Polian is also excellent at finding players who fit the system.
  10. I am so glad that the Rat Bast--- and spoiled brat are gone in succession, I suspect Tennessee getting themselves good coaches. If Tennessee ends up landing Sunseri you guys will be getting a really good coach. Hate to lose him, but would be happy for him getting a promotion. I don't know if that's the way Dooley is looking, but apparently they've expressed some interest in Sunseri. Outside of Joe Barry, there's not been many strong signs on guys they're looking at.
  11. I haven't been able to find anything on his healthy either. Somebody here mentioned in another thread that he'd be out til midyear and that's all I've heard. Like you said, though, given the complete lack of attention his way, that's likely accurate.
  12. If we do sign Bedard, I just hope we're still well in the race by the time he comes back and is effective. Same with Lilly. I just fear our rotation until Lilly comes back, if he's even effective right away. If not, it could be a long April and May. You could always go with a 1-year deal for Bedard with a team option for a second year. Then, even if we're out of the race when he returns (I strong doubt that), then we'll have him for next year when he's, hopefully, fully healthy.
  13. Yeah, it's probably a good deal for them if he's healthy. They key is going to be if he's healthy. Thing is, he'd have been a really good deal for any team if he is healthy, so we'll just have to wait and see.
  14. I agree that it's not the worst thing, but why limit your options with Dye when you can have a guy who can legitimately start some in Nady? Nady's a better option to start for an extended period of time than either Fuld or Dye, and is as good or better of a platoon option as Dye, so I don't see the interest in Dye at all. I didn't want Dye over Nady: my point is that it wouldn't have been the end of the world if they had gotten Dye on the cheap for a support role. True, but Nady was a better option by quite a bit. I'd have also preferred Rob's idea (Spilborghs or Reed) over Dye.

  16. That's a lot of money. Perhaps more than I'd be willing to pay. I'd be interested in Bedard at this point, if he's likely to be healthy by the ASB.
  17. Nobody is supporting the idea of playing Dye fulltime. OK, that one dude was. The rest of us were discussing the idea of him in a platoon with Fukudome or off the bench against lefties, so don't freak out too much. Again, though, with the age and injury history of our outfielders (specifically Soriano), there's a better than average chance that Dye would get every day playing time for at least a period of time.
  18. Yeah, that goes against everything I've ever heard. That said, I agree that Hendry almost certainly ran extensive checks on his health, so I'd think he's recovered or is on pace to be recovered. Or there was a reason why Hendry moved away from guys like Dye or Gomes. Considering the Cubs extensive history of players with TJS on their resume, I would think they'd be comfortable determining a guy's status. This is true.
  19. Hopefully now Dooley will turn to Sal Sunseri for the DC spot.
  20. Joe Barry to USC.

  22. Defense aside, would you take Nady over Dye based on hitting alone? I wouldn't even if Nady was healthy, let alone coming off a second TJS surgery. Now I realize Dye is horrible defensively, but I hold firm to the position that you sign bench players for their bats, not their gloves. The only time this is not the case is when you're talking about backup catchers or defensive specialists like Blanco or Fuld. Nady is neither. With an injury prone guy like Soriano in left and older players in center and right, having a guy on the bench who isn't a liability in the field is important, though. With the signing of Nady, if Soriano gets hurt for a month, we won't have to rely on only Fuld to replace him. If we had signed Dye, then we would have had the choice of starting Fuld every day or starting a DH in left every day. Nady is the superior option for this team. This would be fine if Nady wasn't injured himself. I'm reading reports that TJS takes a MINIMUM of 12-14 months to fully heal. Nady had the procedure last July. So if he can't hit we should have just went with Fuld as our 4th OFer. Like others have said, TJS isn't the same for hitters as it is for pitchers. I'm assuming that he checked out healthwise before we agreed to the deal, so I don't see any way that he's a worse option than any of our other choices.
  23. Should I post the math yet again that proves that if they have to play the field Sam Fuld is a better player than Jermaine Dye? Nobody is supporting the idea of playing Dye fulltime. With our aging outfielders, though, having Dye on the team would raise the possibility of him starting on a full-time basis for a period of time. If we had signed Dye and Soriano had gotten hurt, our only choices would have been Fuld or Dye every day. Now, at least, we have a guy we can feel comfortable if he needs to start every day for a period of time.

I'm saying I'd rather have the option of Nady starting over an injured OF than the options of Fuld or Dye.
  25. The initial report that said Hendry was after Calero also said that Hendry wanted him on a one-year deal while Calero wanted multi years. There probably is something to what you're saying. And as a bullpen arm, Park's been decent. If he came cheap (1-year deal), I wouldn't be opposed. Though I also would be more than fine with going with out current bullpen.
