  1. I'm glad you feel this way (if you are a rams fan). Most Rams fans I have talked to hate the idea of drafting a QB at #1. But I think it has to be done. I think you only draft a QB if you are completely confident that the QB can become an elite QB. I'm not completely convinced these quarterbacks can do that – not moreso than I am that Suh or McCoy can become a dominant force at DT. I don't think you force a pick purely out of need.
  2. OMC submitted his pick for the Saints – Sean Weatherspoon, OLB, Missouri. I've added the 2nd round to the first post in the thread and we now enter the second round. mul21 and reggiemiller rules are on the clock for the Rams pick. I PMd them.
  3. that just sounds wrong Would you feel better if I put his first name in there too?
  4. Ok, thanks. Nomar was still the overall better player with the Reds Sox, it would appear. you also have to take into account that nomar was a huge injury risk and missed a decent amount of time because of nagging injuries. I still don't trade him for Cabrera. Instead, I'd look for a solid backup SS.
  5. Ok, thanks. Nomar was still the overall better player with the Reds Sox, it would appear. Clearly not since the Red Sox won the World Series. FYI. I'm sorry.
  6. hawkeyecub and the Vikings are now on the clock. I PMd him.

  8. This is the thinking I'd use. And only would I consider calling up Castro if he's absolutely tearing up AAA pitching and Theriot is struggling. You don't want to rush a prospect with the potential Starlin has. More like Baker/Fontenot, but otherwise, I agree. Good point.
  9. They may not have put them over the top, but they did fill holes that Boston needed to fill since defense was a major concern that year. Without those two players (and Dave Roberts), I seriously doubt Boston wins the WS in 2004. 2004 UZR/150: Nomar: -15.8 Cabrera: -2.3 2004 OPS: Nomar: .842 Cabrera: .689 Was the defensive difference between the two enough to make up for the offensive gap? I doubt it. orlando put a .785 ops as a red sox player Nomar had an .867 OPS while in Boston. I'd have broken it down to only when the players were with the Red Sox, but I don't know how to do that with UZR. I didn't want to have tiny samples offensively and full season samples defensively.

  11. The more I hear, the more I like Ricketts.
  12. That's an awesome portrait of Cody.
  13. They may have been a better team after July 31, 2004, but it wasn't because they traded Nomar for Cabrera. Roberts and Mientkiewcz may have been significant improvements or maybe some guys already there started playing better, but the acquisition of Cabrera really didn't help them that much. Throwing out a more old school stat: Cabrera fielding percentage with Boston in 2004: .966 Nomar fielding percentage with Boston in 2004: .957

  15. Bruce may leave but it is very unlikely to be for Iowa. If he leaves it will be for a top job not a rebuilding crapfest. Yeah, I thought there was a real chance he'd bolt for the Memphis job. I could see him bolting for a UCLA, Syracuse, UConn, etc. type job or the NBA, but he seems very happy at Tennessee and Hamilton is very willing to pay to keep him. Part of my lack of basketball knowledge, however, is that I don't really know where Tennessee basketball is considered as a program. Obviously in football we're quite a ways up there (just behind the elites, I think), but I don't really know how prestigious the rest of the country views the UT basketball program.
  16. Would Iowa be able to outspend Tennessee for Pearl? I know Mike Hamilton would basically hand Bruce a blank check because there are already boosters getting annoyed after the Lane Kiffin saga. There's no way, I would think, that Hamilton would let Bruce leave because of money. Keep in mind, he passed up a pretty significant raise from Memphis to stay at Tennessee this past offseason. That said, I don't want to see Bruce go anywhere. This is the best UT has been since the Ray Mears era (consistently at least, we had our moments in the Jerry Green era) and I really like what Bruce is building.
  17. For as much as I rip on Hendry, he did get the best of that trade by far. it's just too bad Nomar's groin exploded in 2005. Talent wise, sure Hendry owned it big time, but ultimately the biggest winner of that trade was Boston. They were the big winner that season, but I don't think getting Mientkiewicz and Cabrera put them over the top.
  18. Almost went with Campbell but he just doesn't fit Whisenhunt's idea of a tackle in my eyes. He's not the type of guy to roll the dice and take a guy who is a bit of a project, especially with first round picks. I think the Cardinals come into the draft with a clear focus on shoring up the defense. They will need to replace Dansby and many of their other guys are getting older. I wouldn't be surprised to see their first three picks spent on DL, LB and DB in some order. Yeah, the Cardinals have too many needs to be taking luxuries in the first round – and even with his very high ceiling, Campbell is a project and, thus, a luxury for most teams. The Cowboys have few needs in the starting lineup and could take a shot at developing a guy like Campbell.
  19. Looking for a NT and you pass on Cody? vance, shnsajax and the Cowboys are now on the clock. I PMd them. Cody is a clear second round prospect right now. That said the Cardinals may decide to wait until the second round because of guys like Cody and Cam Thomas. I could see him going late in the first round. Earlier drafters will likely shy away from him, but I could definitely see a team late in the first trying to get a value pick from him. The biggest issue I've heard is that he's really fat, almost too much so. But for a run stuffing nose tackle, I don't see that being a big enough negative for all 32 teams to pass on him – and some multiple times.
  20. Excellent pick of Campbell. Like you said vance, he has all the physical skills of a top 10 pick, but his technique is iffy. If his technique can be improved, he could be an awesome tackle. Great value at this spot. weis21 and the Chargers are now on the clock. I PMd him.

  22. unless Z refers to someone other than Zambrano, there's almost no chance you'll want to keep him over the rest of that group at the end of the year. That'd be if most of those guys flop or if Z turns into an elite ace. I doubt I'll keep any of my pitching – other than Strasburg. Markakis and Stephen Drew are options to keep as well, though I obviously wouldn't keep Reyes and Drew.
  23. Dunlap has exceptional talent. CubbieBum and the Cardinals are now on the clock. I PMd him.
  24. I have no sure thing keepers. My likely candidates are Strasburg, Youkilis, Soto, Sandoval, Reyes and McCann. Maybe Z as well.
  25. Cutting Anderson and Quinn loose to replace them with Seneca Wallace and Jake Delhomme doesn't seem to be the answer. That's a lateral move (at best) if I've ever seen one. Yeah, I don't get it.
