  1. And with the second pick in the draft, the Broncos take the best player in the draft - and the eventual successor to Champ Bailey. Patrick Peterson, cornerback, LSU EhDubya and the Bills are on the clock, I PMd him.
  2. First round draft order is in the first post of this thread, so shoot a PM to whoever is after you in the order to keep this moving smoothly.
  3. Alright, let's get this started. I assigned the Chargers to rawaction and I just took the rest of the open teams. However, if anybody (current owners or not) wants any of those teams, feel free to take them over. I'll also take input from anyone who wants to before I make the selection for those teams. Opening the 2011 NSBB mock draft is Andy and the Panthers. Each team has 24 hours to make their selection and time starts as soon as the previous owner makes his selection.
  4. We have a few options here. If we still want to do the mock draft, we can go ahead and triple up on teams and go that route or we can do kind of a "community mock" sort of thing where we just take a 24 hour period for each team, opinions are given and a decision is reached for each team. Thoughts?
  5. we've been locked out The NSBB mock draft isn't part of the old CBA.
  6. Career .334 minor league OBP and .708 OPS. I really hope he's nowhere near the top of the order. Put Kosuke and Starlin up there and leave them (unless a lefty starts, then go with Castro and Soto).
  7. Tennessee's top five candidate hopefuls to replace Pearl have leaked out: Dixon and Wright seem like pretty clear pipe dreams as I see no way the Tennessee job is better than Pitt or Villanova - unless we simply offer a ton more money (and even then I don't see it). A couple names I'd also like them to look at (aside from another pipe dream, Brad Stevens) are Shakha Smart and Cuonzo Martin.
  8. My buddy was interested in joining so that should be one of those three. I might be able to get one more to join if we really need him. if they'll actually participate, great. but adding managers who are going to bail in April is worse than just punting on the league. The first guy will participate all year for sure, he's pretty big into fantasy baseball. The second I think would try all year, but he isn't the biggest baseball fan. I don't plan on asking him, but he might do it if we really wanted to get this started.
  9. 3.33 ERA/3.71 FIP/4.42 xFIP/2.4 WAR He's overpaid by those numbers, but he certainly isn't pitching like crap. His ERA has never been above 4.00 and his xFIP has 4.45 only once. He's not been the amazing ace we thought we might have his first couple of years, but he's been a very good pitcher overall. I'm with you on this, though.
  10. Hopefully we will have a ruling on Bruce Pearl pretty soon, and that should be a good indicator as to what they will do with Tressel. Probably won't be anything on Pearl until June or July I'm thinking. Tennessee just got the letter of allegations within the past few weeks and they have 90 days (I believe) to respond to that letter. The NCAA - or someone - will then have to adjust the allegations as much as necessary and make a decision from there. Most opinions I've heard on the subject don't expect anything until well into the summer.
  11. Blaine Sumner, from the perennial powerhouse Colorado School of Mines, completed 52 reps on the bench recently. He can also squat 900+ pounds and is a DT.

  13. Much like with Cam, impressive is what I expect from Gabbert in workouts. Both are physical specimens as far as ability goes. To me, the important thing to focus on with both Cam and Gabbert is interviews and what teams are hearing behind the scenes, so to speak, about each. Both have all the ability in the world, but both have a lot of work to do to refine themselves into great NFL QBs. Work ethic and intelligence are going to be critical for both and the difference between being Steve McNair/Ben Roethlisberger or JaMarcus Russell/Vince Young.
  14. Can non-NSBB people join the league? I have a friend who might have an interest if so.
  15. Shades of Victor Zambrano for Scott Kazmir, except probably worse.
  16. With the exception of the Cubs souring on DeWitt, everything sounds like speculation. I'd think he'd throw in a "according to Cubs sources" or "a Cubs official said" or something like that if it was more than speculation. That said, it may just be purely hope that I'm seeing that as speculation because pretty much any trade based on Marmol for Young would be a horrid trade. Do the Rangers have any elite prospects we could demand? For instance: Marmol + DeWitt for Young + O'Day + Chris Davis + A-level prospect
  17. If Wells continues to post 4.24 and 4.09 range xFIPs, then he'll be well worth $5 mil a year. For what WAR is worth with pitchers, Wells has been a 3.1 and 3.3 WAR pitcher the past two seasons - he's worth $5 mil a year. Theriot's problem is that he provided extremely minimal value, so when his salary bumped up at all, he became overpaid. Theriot was over a 3 WAR only once in his career and had a slightly better than 1.0 WAR in two seasons (with a 2.3 WAR the fourth and 0.0 last year).
  18. I miss HoopsCubs most of the time. I've seen him post some on Bruce's blog, though. Meph drove him away. Meph was the worst Yeah, I remember that whole saga. I wish Hoops would come back.
  19. I agree that Cubs management and general people likely find Wells to be very fluky and I can understand where that thought is coming from - I considered him that after his first year as well. Heck, I wanted to deal Wells for Heath Bell midway through his first season as a major leaguer. The reason he's seen as a fluke is that he's a little old (28 now, 29 sometime this year) to be entering his third MLB season and he had pretty mediocre minor league stats. However, what they're overlooking is that he started his minor league career as a catcher, explaining his older age relative to his experience. He's also now thrown as many quality major league innings as he has mediocre minor league seasons. We have enough of a sample size to say he'll at least be solid at the ML level, while that's a pretty big gamble with a guy like Coleman. Also, because he began as a catcher in the minors, his arm will have less wear on it than a normal 28 year old, meaning he'll likely be productive for longer than most pitchers. Is he a future all-star stud? No, but he's also too good to cast off for anybody short of the elite players in the system (Cashner, JJax, McNutt, etc).

  21. Most people are way down on Wells, it seems. Shouldn't be, but they are.
  22. Keep in mind also that the TV deals the NFL signed will be paid out even if there is no football this year. So while the players are sitting at home gaining little to no income, the owners are still drawing in plenty of revenue. I don't see how the players can win a standoff with the owners. I thought the TV revenue deal for '11 was struck down by a judge recently. Ah, hadn't heard that. Owners are still in a much better position, but that definitely helps the players some.

  24. I went ahead and gave you the Jags since I'm pretty sure we don't have one on the board. You can have the Chargers if we start tripling up, but I really don't want to do that. I'm pretty sure he just called you the only jag on the board. Insert a fan in place of one. Typing and thinking don't go together well for me.
