  1. Running back is a possibility here for the Giants as they need a replacement for Brandon Jacobs, but there's not really a big, power back who would be a good value here. So, the Giants sure up their defensive backfield a bit by taking some cornerback depth. The Giants select Brandon Burton, CB, Utah. Splendid Splinter and the Bucs are now on the clock. I'll PM him.
  2. I think Chattanooga CB Buster Skrine is a good value here. Plus he's an Al Davis type of player - skyrocketed value after great combine numbers (second fastest time of anyone at the combine this year).
  3. You didn't pick too soon, I posted too slow. I usually have enough time to send off the PM and then make my post, but you were quicker than me.
  4. The Dolphins need a running game to take some of the pressure off new QB Jake Locker and they'll go in that direction here to platoon with Ronnie Brown. The Dolphins select Taiwan Jones, RB, Eastern Washington. It came down to Kendall Hunter or Jones here and I chose Jones because his 6'1 height may make him more likely to build himself into a starting NFL RB. Hunter at 5'8 just probably isn't tall enough. The Jags and Raisin are now on the clock. I PMd him.
  5. The Titans finally decide to go with a QB here and take a guy who can fight with Rusty Smith for the "QB of the future" battle. The Titans select Pat Devlin, QB, Delaware. Devlin doesn't have the best arm strength, but Mike Munchak has been rumored to be wanting to go to more of a west coast style offense and Devlin should fit that system well. After the QB run that hit in the late 1st/early 2nd rounds, there was no QB available in the past couple of picks for the Titans who would be able to start next year and Devlin at least has a real chance to fit Munchak's new system. The Rams and Formerly Snayke are now on the clock. I PMd him.
  6. Since we're a bit pressed for time, we'll go ahead and take jame's pick and go with Ricky Stanzi for the 49ers.
  7. This is a big, big problem though. (sorry to pick one sentence from your well-constructed post). Pena absolutely MUST slug or he's worthless. Thank God he's only here one year. We've got nothing else, so it's him this year and that's probably it. Pena is hitting it hard, though. LD% of just over 21 is pretty solid and right around his career average. He's getting a little unlucky overall, but probably very unlucky on flyballs leaving the yard. He's hitting flyballs 40% of the time and has had none go out for homers. What I was wondering was whether he was simply getting unlucky on those or if an injury is keeping him from driving the ball as well, because he's hitting line drives and getting the ball in the air - the hard hit balls haven't been productive though. It's Colvin who hasn't hit the ball hard. He's got an 8.8 LD% so far this year (through whenever I made that post).
  8. Feel free to laugh at me and completely ignore this idea if you like, but I don't think a QB would be that outlandish here. Brady's been excellent at times, injury prone at others and is getting a bit up there in age. Ricky Stanzi is a guy who could probably fit pretty well into that NE offense given time and the Patriots don't really have many other needs that have good value at this point. Another idea would be DeAndre Brown out of Southern Miss. Fantastic talent, but a bit of an injury (he was the guy who had the much publicized broken leg in a bowl game his freshman year) and character concern. Purely on talent Brown's a great value here and the Patriot clubhouse might limit the concerns about him a bit. Deunta Williams of NC is another possibility, though not the value Brown is for me. We're also getting into the area a team might reach for Buster Skrine of UTC. I doubt that'd be the Patriots, but he's a possibility.
  9. We're well over 24 hours so I'll go ahead and make the pick. The Texans are switching to a 3-4 and, after taking their NT of the future earlier, they still need depth either at DE or rush OLB. Connor Barwin and Mark Anderson can both move to OLB, but adding another big pass rusher can help the depth either there or at DE. So, the Texans select Pernell McPhee, DE/OLB, Mississippi State. Splendid Splinter and the Patriots are on the clock. I'll PM him.
  10. Pena's BABIP is now at .265, slightly below his career average. His LD% is a little higher than his career average, meaning he's been slightly unlucky. Not significantly enough to explain his poor performance so far, however. Colvin, on the other hand, only has a .125 BABIP, but also just an 8.8 LD%. He's just not hitting the ball hard so far. Pena's OBP is fine considering the awful batting average. He's got a .141 IsoD, he just isn't slugging the ball at all. I haven't watched many games this year, but the fact that he's hit flyballs 40% of the time and has no home runs makes me wonder if he's either getting unlucky on fly balls or if an injury is taking just enough power away that he's not driving the ball as well. He's never going to have a high average, but if he can keep walking at anywhere near his current pace and get a few of those flyballs to leave the yard, he'll be valuable enough. He's certainly not been productive so far, but I don't see any options that are likely to be better than Pena can be. I'd stick with him.
  11. Castro had 32 errors in 90 games at Daytona. Errors are often inflated in the minors and really don't mean much. I was much higher on Archer than Lee and hated to see Archer go more, but I think it's too early to write Lee off as, at best, Alcides Escobar. He had an .820 OPS his first year in the minors and through 25 PAs this year (tiny sample size obviously) he has an 1.178 OPS.
  12. I'm intrigued by Cobb. He's a really interesting prospect to me, but I'm not sure just how valuable he is. He's either an extremely versatile, somewhat explosive player who can do a little of everything and be very valuable to a team or he's a kinda smallish guy who doesn't have a real position and never really stands out because of it.
  13. i think the cardinals are up next, unless we are getting really in-depth and projecting they do the vikings thing and don't get their pick in on time. Haha, wow. No idea what I was seeing there. I PMd rawaction for the Cardinals' pick.
  14. It's been well past 24 hours, so I'll go ahead and make the pick. We'll continue the offense theme for the Bills here and take a guy to help protect the newly drafted Ponder. The Bills select James Pinkston, OG, Pittsburgh. Treeman and the Browns are now on the clock. I PMd him.
  15. Drake Nevis is undersized, but can play anywhere on a 4-3 front and what he lacks in filling space on the line, he makes up for in explosiveness. The Broncos select Drake Nevis, DT, LSU. With Nevis and Houston along with Elvis Dumervil now all together on the d-line, the Broncos have the potential for creating massive havoc in the backfield. If Robert Ayers can reach - or even just come near - his potential, d-line goes from a big question mark to the team's biggest strength. Add in the Champ Bailey/Patrick Peterson/Brian Dawkins trio in the secondary and the Denver defense is looking pretty good. The Bills and EhDubya are now on the clock. I'll PM him.
  16. Mayock replacing Theismann/Millen, which is a great move. Johnson/Mayock would be an excellent team. If Gus Johnson/Mike Mayock on NFL Network happens, I've probably found my favorite broadcast team of all time. That would be an excellent duo - Mayock's analysis is excellent and Gus makes everything awesome.
  17. We'll go ahead and move on to the third round and anybody can drop out if they're not interested. So, Andy and the Panthers are up to start the third round. I PMd him.
  18. While we wait on the Bears to pick, how does everybody feel about doing the third round. I'm up for it if the interest is there. We should be able to finish up the third round just about the time the actual draft is starting too.
  19. The Ravens don't have a lot of needs at this point after filling the CB spot in the first round, so this is a value pick. The only spot they've struggled to have plenty of talent at since Harbaugh took over is WR - Derrick Mason is old, Anquan Boldin is getting older, Todd Heap is a good weapon for a TE but isn't a feature receiver and then there's not a whole lot else in the receiving corps. So, the Ravens select a receiver with a lot of upside who could eventually take over for Boldin as a big, possession receiver. He's also a terrific value late in the second round. The Ravens select Leonard Hankerson, WR, Miami (FL). Treeman and the Falcons are on the clock. I PMd him.
  20. Thoughts on the Seahawks' pick here if sulley doesn't show?
  21. NFL Network just reported the Colts might use their first round pick on a QB. I figured Peyton's eventual replacement would be a no name QB from a tiny college nobody's ever heard of before. Of course, knowing Polian, he might pick that player in the first round just to throw people off.
  22. The Giants are in another quandry here between two players - Chris Culliver and Marcus Gilbert. Tackle is probably the bigger need, but Antrel Rolle was anything but impressive in his initial season in New York. Gilbert's got intriguing upside, but has short arms. Culliver is a pretty nice physical specimen, but the inability to come in and start immediately would defeat the purpose of drafting him to replace Rolle. So, the Giants select Marcus Gilbert, OT, Florida. He'll start out developing behind the veteran OTs and hopefully take over either the left or right side in 1-2 years. CCP and Exile are on the clock for the Colts. I'll PM CCP.
  23. Rudolph might've been the best value left on the board at this point.
  24. Good values: WR: Torrey Smith (good deep speed), Leonard Hankerson (big, physical possession guy with questionable speed) OL: not a lot of value here CB: Curtis Brown (good coverage guy, poor tackler) Going purely off measureables, UTC's Buster Skrine had a great combine and, I believe, posted the second fastest official time there. He's a corner, but this would be a couple rounds too early to take him. At receiver, Randall Cobb is a really intriguing athlete. Good speed, good quickness and is highly versatile (played WR, QB, RB, punt/kick returner in college). This is probably around the time that he's likely to go, as well.
