While I didn't have my heart set on Berkman as the 1-2 year solution at 1B; I really feel like I'm watching the NFL Draft. Or at least a fantasy football draft. You know... when people are waiting to draft a kicker or a defense (Fantasy) or a DB (NFL), and then the first one gets drafted and starts a run on that certain position. By the time it's your pick, you're stuck with taking the "best available on the board", whether the player is good or not, you're just trying to fill a hole. That is how I feel with the Cubs. Dunn was the first chip to fall. Then Gonzalez gets traded to Boston (close) and Berkman signs with St. Louis. At this point, I fully expect the Nats to get Pena. We'll either make the stupid trade for Chris Davis, or we'll do nothing and stick Colvin at first and Fukudome in RF full time. I really, really, really don't like the way this offseason is looking right now. While I won't hold my breath, I hold a shred of hope that we can sign Pena as the stop-gap. In and of itself that is sad, considering on how Pena was great a year or two ago. Meh.
