  1. Levine says Archer and Jackson are NOT involved in any deal for Garza.
  2. Gordon Wittenmyer is reporting that some of the money might be deferred on Pena. He's working on how much.
  3. I am happy with this signing as well. He just can't have his number in Tampa here on the Northside. He'll probably take #25.
  4. Now there is another report on a Cubs-Rangers trade involving Chris Davis. I'm really hoping it's a re-hash of an older report.
  5. What's sad is that some Cubs fans would even get excited if it didn't happen. Like we might actually have a shot. Ha! Yea.. I am pretty sure if the Red Sox are balking at an extension price for Agon the Cubs would not be able to reach what he wants. Reportedly the Cubs would never get the chance. SD says they won't field other offers if this falls through with Boston.
  6. While I didn't have my heart set on Berkman as the 1-2 year solution at 1B; I really feel like I'm watching the NFL Draft. Or at least a fantasy football draft. You know... when people are waiting to draft a kicker or a defense (Fantasy) or a DB (NFL), and then the first one gets drafted and starts a run on that certain position. By the time it's your pick, you're stuck with taking the "best available on the board", whether the player is good or not, you're just trying to fill a hole. That is how I feel with the Cubs. Dunn was the first chip to fall. Then Gonzalez gets traded to Boston (close) and Berkman signs with St. Louis. At this point, I fully expect the Nats to get Pena. We'll either make the stupid trade for Chris Davis, or we'll do nothing and stick Colvin at first and Fukudome in RF full time. I really, really, really don't like the way this offseason is looking right now. While I won't hold my breath, I hold a shred of hope that we can sign Pena as the stop-gap. In and of itself that is sad, considering on how Pena was great a year or two ago. Meh.
  7. Now that I think about it; I wonder what exactly constitutes "passing a physical"? If Adrian can't swing a bat until late March, how in the world does he pass?
  8. Players have been agreed upon, and Boston is discussing extension and scheduling a physical. This could be done later today. *sigh*
  9. Latest report has the trade with Boston "close" and it does not involve Heath Bell - just A.G.
  10. In the offseason it's a lot easier to deal him contingent on an extension with the new team, raising the return by a ton. Wouldn't on the other hand, possibly increase the return value in June/July by the trade deadline though than in the off-season? Assuming one team is desperate enough, that is. I believe it's mentioned in the article on SI.com, that the Padres know that Arz, LA, and Colorado are all improving themselves ... and then you have the reigning champs in the Giants. The Pads might realize they don't have much of a shot in the division for 2011, and their best bet for a good haul is this winter.
  11. *raises hand* But my concern is him bouncing from team to team in the past 12 months.
  12. AJ's on his way North of the Border it seems...
  13. So what happened to the announcement today?
  14. Meh... at least Dave Duncan can't do anything with him.
  15. I thought for certain Jim Hendry would pounce on his AAAA franchise, but the one I thought he would target was just acquired by Arizona.
  16. I was under the impression that Huff was along the lines of what Jim was targeting for 1B. Maybe he's aiming lower ... although there is reports of one other team willing to go that high for Huff and we all know how Hendy loves to overpay.
  17. Maybe Jim can fill the Hoffpauir quota by acquiring Jarret somehow. :-"
  18. This. I hate how slowly *our* off-season always seems to move. It's like Hendry is stuck in molasses.
