  1. The A10 has a better RPI than the SEC this season too. Scary but true, there's such a huge drop-off from Florida to everyone else while Butler, SLU, and VCU are all likely better than Missouri (SEC's 2nd best team). If Boise St. has a good run here they'll be the 5th team from the Mountain West, more than the SEC and likely same amount as the Pac-12.
  2. I'm in, I'll be UK.
  3. The rumors are that current ND players had assumed it was a lie and that Te'o had been seen around campus with women and been known to have had relationships with them.
  4. I agree Ertz > Eifert. Re: Warmack. He's a better prospect that Iupati who went 11 and this is a weak draft but you have to wonder how high a guard will truly go. I'll say 8-10 overall.
  5. Well, in one case, the player came directly to them and they reacted, which is understandable. In the other, do we know the athletic program had any immediate knowledge, or was it just reported to campus police and they did nothing? Or was it reported to both the campus police and the athletic department? I don't recall the details. My limited understanding of the sexual assault case is that it was reported to campus police and they were the ones dragging their feet. Whether the athletic department was involved to some extent in that, as far as I know, was never made clear. Campus Police failed miserably and it was followed by another glaring failure by ND's administration once it was known by them. Regardless, if they knew 6 minutes or 6 months after it happened, they protected their image above anything else and are doing it again with their golden boy.

In the other, do we know the athletic program had any immediate knowledge, or was it just reported to campus police and they did nothing? Or was it reported to both the campus police and the athletic department? I don't recall the details. 6 months after the incident & once it became an ESPN story, ND finally did conduct an internal hearing. It should also be noted that ND's President (John Jenkins) refused to meet with Seeberg's family based on advice from ND's counsel, who also likely smeared her character in attempts to save ND's reputation.
  7. The most disturbing aspect would be him going along with this for the extra pub, but one thing I'm disgusted with is how ND is handling this and going back to Sullivan in '10 and ND's response to that, followed by the sexual assault case with Seeberg as well as the Freshman who remains unidentified, and now this. It's a pattern of covering up their own asses at any cost even though they know he lied in some form. It's ironic that once it became known to them that it was a hoax, they immediately start an investigation but Seeberg reports the rape and campus police does nothing until 5 days after she kills herself?
  8. You should be disappointed by this news.
  9. I was joking about Illini's lack of success but was serious about needing someone willing get to dirty if wanting Illinois to become elite.
  10. No one gets in trouble for recruiting anymore. I would do it. I'm tired of being crap. I'm sure you guys would still find a way to make Kelvin Sampson jokes and worry about IUs scholarship situation. :hello: And yet even after all that you're still raking in guys. I'm serious as a heart attack when I say cheat. Just cheat wisely and don't get caught. I want to win big again. I'm tired of our states best going elsewhere to help other programs win big. Again? When was this model of success you speak of in regards to Illini basketball?? :D Definitely need dirtier hands and have a coach that knows how to avoid the fray.
  11. There's two reasons I think Saban would consider leaving for the right position: 1) He's never been one to stay in one place for a long time. He's hit his max time spent at one coaching position, so it's possible he's wanting to make another move. 2) He (like most all college coaches) is a proud man who doesn't like failure. He failed in the NFL and he very well may want another crack at it to prove he can do it. That doesn't mean I think he'd jump at any NFL offer, but for the right situation I don't think it's completely unrealistic to think he may jump. That's the only reason why he'd leave like Carroll did, unlike Carroll though, he appears to be running a cleaner program and doesn't have to jump off a sinking ship before the NCAA comes calling. That's unlike Kelly who is likely using the Eagles as leverage for a better deal for him and his staff.
  12. Let's talk about SEC assistant coaches instead. Wisconsin-River Falls (D-III) defensive coordinator Greg Bower will be the new special teams coordinator / defensive backs coach at Minnesota-Duluth.
  13. It's not ironic that Jones will do whatever it takes to keep his "chosen one" (Garrett) in place. The only thing that would be a bigger blow to his ego would be firing himself as an incompetent GM.
  14. There's been no conversations with any former HC's outside of the Singletary courtesy interview. Either they really are looking for a first time HC, or they've kept those interviews very quiet. Honestly, Singletary doesn't count either given his relationship to the Bears and the "Rooney rule". I don't like the fact that Emery is looking at only offensive guys and guys with no HC experience. If the search is this extensive right now with 11 or so, why limit it at that point? With that said, I'd be content with McCoy, Arians, and Sullivan.
  15. Add those two and it becomes right there with the Fab 5 for one of the best ever. I think Wiggins will go to FSU and UK is still likely for Randle.
  16. Good news for Raisin: "The school expects to keep Jim Mora, who has been contacted about the San Diego Chargers vacancy, and plans to increase the base salary for Mora's assistants and improve the team's facilities, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times."
  17. Anyone surprised Billick hasn't received any mention?
  18. Hopefully Derek Willis never gets off the bench. Assuming Noel, CS, and Polythress go pro, he'll see some minutes out there.
  19. Since there's not as much to celebrate this year with UK as previous years, although UK has played much better of late and ranked 9th in the Pomeroy rankings. UK has landed the #1 C prospect for 2013 with Dakari Johnson and the #3 overall prospect for 2014 with Karl Towns Jr. That goes nicely with the #1 ranked PG and SG for the '13 class as well as James Young the #2 rated SG and 6th overall prospect.
  20. Then lets become the Dodgers! You say this like that kind of spending power isn't desirable. Very desirable, not realistic. Even on a team like the Cubs as much as they need impact players (Bourn would qualify as one) and have payroll flexibility, I want them to be financially sound throughout this process. As much as I sound like a broken record, signing Bourn to a market value contract might not match that compared to other options.
  21. The numbers you're quoting ($12 million per/$15 million per 4/5 years) are hardly unreasonable, so I'm not quite sure why you're talking about like this is some kind of shell game where the Cubs have to play poor and can't swing a deal like that. If Boras wants more than that, of course, walk away, but deals in that range? Why let the Mariners walk away with him? If the Ricketts say they can afford him, great. They don't have to play poor but if they don't have to pay an escalating salary with the avg. being 15 mil per yr., I don't see why they should bid against themselves or against a team likely testing the waters (I'm not sold on Sea being a serious player). I don't think it's an unreasonable contract at 4 at 15 per (I would not like a 5th year) either but I don't think they should overspend when they don't have to and if they want 4 yr at 15 mil and it's the Cubs and M's with Seattle not likely to meet that, then they will overspend based on market inefficiencies rather than player production.
  22. Then lets become the Dodgers!
  23. He's been a 4-5 WAR win player 3 out of the last 4 years, with last year being his 6+ likely fluke, it's not hard to explain that he'll duplicate what he has done 3 out of the last 4 years and regress from there as he gets older and ventures further from his prime. Based on the market... who's left to bid on him the Cubs and the Mariners? Get some real other players at the table and the market changes. Players with his skill-set are undervalued & with no other real bidder in this situation, I don't see why they should meet Boras' demands. Using fangraphs salary calculation doesn't factor community college level economics. If there were 5-6 teams bidding for his services, I could see meeting the demands but there isn't. Soriano had much more demand at the time than Bourn.
  24. Like I said, I'd take Morgan over Bourn based on what they would likely receive. You're overthinking this. Morgan is bad at baseball and Bourn is good at it. We have money, and we should use it to try to get players who are good at baseball. It's about production per dollar spent and not having to likely overspend for a player in their mid 30s, given an escalating contract. I'd rather see them take a chance on a player who had 10.5 WAR over the last 4 years at 1yr at compared to 19.1 WAR at 4 years at 15 mil, given the contract differences.
  25. Exceedingly? No, not at all. Yes, yes it is. It's "I don't like the idea of signing the player, so what's a number that is as pessimistic as possible without being completely asburd." That's not true at all. You're putting words in my mouth. I like the signing of Bourn at 10 mil per for 4 yrs, bump it up to 4/5 yrs at 15 mil per and I don't like the signing.
