  1. CP, it's true. I did a study on that a couple of years ago when comparing their actual record to their pythag. record. The teams that had 6 or more actual wins over their pythag, typically had two things in common; a lower deviation rate w/runs scored and a higher one with runs allowed. The exact opposite occured when teams had 6 or less wins than their pythag. record.
  2. The chat session discussing the Cubs top 50 prospects is the extent of my appreciation for him, "proof is in the puddin!".
  3. He was probably comparing an incident that happened during today's game to one that happened in the Washington series, if I was to guess.

  5. Coaching at A-Ball or Short-Season for the Nats' I believe.
  6. If the '04 Sox had the same pitching as they have this year both in the rotation and the pen, they would have easily made the playoffs as they are going to this year. This is a similar argument to Lofton being one of the main reasons why the Cubs made the playoffs in '03. It was more improvements at 3B and pitching than Lofton over Patterson.
  7. It might impact some, it won't impact others, if that bothers a pitcher that much having a quick runner on 1B, I would assume he doesn't have the focus to get into the majors in the 1st place. Either that, or he needs some help with throwing out of the stretch. If a pitcher is focusing too much attention on that runner at 1B, I hope the team will correct that problem.
  8. I'm glad to see the Morris of '04 return for a game. Flat upper 80s FB that missed in the zone.
  9. Cincy making a good move, Towers making a bad one... It is opposite day? :)
  10. Tearing a tendon in his middle finger is not considered a major surgery, that is only injury I can think of him having so far, it is 100% and isn't considered a potential problem long-term like a shoulder injury. He has one the better curves in the system, it is a big breaker similar to that of Zito.

  12. Florida is considering trading Burnett without having to take on Lowell's contract.
  13. Ken Griffey Jr.: 9-Year worth 116.5M- he will make between 2000 and 2008 a salary of 12.5M each year- + in 2000, 5.5M of salary deferred till 2009- + deal includes 2009 Team Option or a 4M buyout- + 6.5M of 2001-2009 salaries deferred to subsequent years between 2009 and 2024 Agent: Brian Goldberg Service Time: 16.000
  14. I'd rather keep Macias over Relaford, which isn't saying much. I'd keep Macias on the roster for now, start Murton and Cedeno, call up Kelton for a RH bat off the bench, and send down one of the relief pitchers.
  15. He's the top pitching prospect in the Cubs' system right now, imo. Agreed. Yep. Big fan of his. He'll have a productive ML career. If he can make it to the majors in the next couple years, what does that tell you about Swoope? Nic Jackson, Dubois, Brendan Harris all within the last 3 years to the majors... Possible candidate in Marshall. That's an amazing ratio for such a short span since the creation of the draft in '65.
  16. Duncan is a heck of a PC, I wouldn't give too much credit for Kile, you can trace his success back to Houston, before the thin air flattened his curve. On that same note, I wouldn't give him blame for someone like Simontacchi who had very limited stuff to work with and Duncan got the most out of. I like his preparation to the game, as a byproduct of LaRussa, he is involved in the game situations more than he should be. I think he calls pickoffs, pitch outs, pitches, and other in-game situations too often, this should be handled by the pitcher and C more times than not. He is one of the best in the game. On a personal note, I'm more disappointed with the arm injuries of Alan Benes. Give Jocketty credit for this as well, he deserves it.
  17. There was an odd rumor that the Nats' were interested in Milton from Cincy. But, Cincy wants no part of dealing with Bowden b/c of their past history. My thinking is this, Milton's contract was probably the worst of many poor signings last off-season, Washington might be offering a "get out of jail free card" and you're too stubborn to improve your club by getting rid of a horrible contract and saving money (which is something they lack in general). I have no understanding why they would let that get in the way of improving the team.
  18. Watching these two managers face each other is one of the most painful experiences a fan should have to go thru.... One operates under prehistoric codes, the other is too busy trying to micromanage the game to death to leave well enough alone.
  19. The reason you don't sign him is that he isn't likely going to be worth his next contract, regardless of how much money the Cubs have, you don't overpay for players unless you're Boston or the Yankees. Even though I'm not very supportive of going after Giles based on his age, I'd rather see the Cubs go after him under assumption that it'll require less years and money per than Damon, b/c I believe Giles will be more productive under a shorter timeframe and cheaper. Whomever signs Damon will likely overspend for him, even by free agency standards.
  20. Like you said Walker could handle leadoff without any difficulties unless someone believes speed is a requirement to hit leadoff, I sure don't. The Cubs will have holes in their OF (possibly all 3) and SS. There's plenty of opportunity to not overspend for Damon's services and still get a 1/2 type of hitter. I agree w/JC that spending 4 years at 10 mil per is spending too much for one player under the Cubs' budget as well as every other team except the Red Sox or Yankees.
  21. Despite Lamar's odd catering to Lou in TB as far as veterans, he has the ability to build a farm system and has done that, they need time. They have the management that will increase their payroll in the next couple of years beyond its current level (25 mil). They're just in a tough division where patience hasn't been a virtue.
  22. Exactly, the difference between RC and LW/XR is minimal enough to where it sin't worth the time to calculate it using a slightly more accurate weighted system like LW or XR.
  23. It is such a diverse opinion about him, depends on which day and which poster they're reading.
  24. Thank you for taking the time to conduct this chat... If possible, could you describe the typical routine of what a starter goes thru every 5 days at AA? For example (I doubt this is a pitcher's routine, but)... Day 1:Pitch Day 2:Light weights /cardio Day 3:Arm and Shoulder exercises/leg weights/light throwing Day 4:Throwing off the mound/cardio Day 5:Light weights/light throwing/little cardio Day 6:Pitch Would something like this be mandated by Mr. Flieta or do have the authority to make adjustments you feel need to be made. One final question, do various pitchers have different routines? B/c in Atl, Maddux, Glavine, and Smotlz had comp. different schedules.
