  1. UIC is the best team in the Horizon, they'll probably have 2-3 players drafted. Johnson is a solid C, can't remember if he's a Soph. or Junior. Hallberg is a good 2B. Gempp, I've watched since he was a Soph. at Grant HS and watched him at CLC (JUCO). He's a good LH'ed hitting OF'er best sutied at the top of the order. Rosinski is a senior power hitting OF'er. But, the two players to watch, especially on Fridays is Zink, who struggled somewhat his Soph. season after a great Fresh. year. Peterson is a another very good pitcher, who'll get drafted as well.
  2. Probably in the 10-20 range of the 1st round.
  3. You're supposed to respect the language, whatever the hell that meant. because white people certainly respected the culture of the native americans when we wiped them out/stashed them in reservations. That didn't happen in our lifetimes, who cares? I'll just ignore it.
  4. You're supposed to respect the language, whatever the hell that meant.
  5. I watched the Royals vs the White Sox today, Nomo vs. Snyder. Nomo topped out at about 85 with no movement and Snyder is 6'8" with a FB that sits at about 86, didn't use his curve much, and has a bad change. There were 6 HRs allowed in the 1st 3+ innings. Fort. for the Sox Nomo is not in consideration for any role, b/c his arm is shot, he's done.
  6. Halsey is a poor man's version of Rusch, either Beane got the bad end of this deal or Juan's value has dropped pretty far, probably both in this case.
  7. http://redsox.bostonherald.com/redSox/view.bg?articleid=132235&format=text Graffy has been placed on waivers, but can be pulled back if a team places a bid. They aren't lacking middle infielders right now, but further down in the article, Mohr might be of some interest as a 4th OF'er.
  8. He's always been in Oakland's top 30, I think he's around 25th this year. I doubt it has been top 100 overall, but his speed and decent swing have kept him up there in the A's system.
  9. That's hard to say at this stage, Delmon Young is as toolsy as they come but as yet to show patience at higher levels in the minors. Then you have hitters like Barton and Fielder, who have very good to great hitting tools but not as strong as Young. Another toolsy one to look at is Lastings Milledge. But, you can be the rare exception and have the combo of both ala Chipper Jones and more recently Stephen Drew and Alex Gordon.
  10. They're a good team, they're something like 19-4 at this stage and Cohen has been an outstanding coach. Barnhart would be wise to try and lock him up. DeJesus is a very good player, Cowgill has been strong on offense as well. They've had very strong pitching performances as well. UK has had a very easy schedule to date, they did take 2 of 3 from LSU and have split the 1st two vs. Tenn. They haven't played the heart of the SEC schedule, which will determine how good they really are as knocking around teams like Cleveland St. doesn't give you an idea. UK will always be at a disadvantage in the SEC, in Jan. when pre-season starts, most SEC teams (maybe Vandy and Tenn are the exceptions) are able to practice outdoors while most of UK's practices are indoors. Most recruits will look towards a southern school.
  11. If you lose Jose Macias, you might as well get a similar type of player. Bynum has very good speed, not great defensively at any of several positions but listed as a utility player. Will probably hit in the .260s with an OBP in low 3s and strike out way too much for someone who lacks power and can get to 1B quicker than most. In hitters' leagues over the last 3 years, he has 9 HRs compared to 338 strikeouts.
  12. Bruce, one more question.... Have the Cubs began discussions with Lee and Pierre about extending their deals. I obviously place a higher priority on Lee than Pierre, but how do you see the '07 OF shaping up. It appears to be rather obvious as Pie should do well at AAA, Pierre is a FA, and Jones and Murton are locked up. But, does the fact that Hendry traded 3 players to get Pierre impact the concept of him only be in Chicago for one year?
  13. Btw, I just rec'd in an email that Bud Smith was just released by the Twins.
  14. Somewhere Vitale is sad, soon he'll be creating idiotic phrases that he'll be able to yell next season.
  15. . Well, that won't impact his draft status. :)
  16. TT, any update on Max Scherzer? I know he missed his last start with a bicep problem.
  17. I put more stock into Cox's ability to get into the postseason than I do his inability to not win it. Baker really isn't the king of post-season failure, b/c he only gets to the post-season about 33% of the time. If a score of 15-4 is considered a rout, that's the difference between the amount of postseason appear. for Cox compared to Baker. Everyone knows about the consecutive streak for Cox as well.
  18. That depends on two players who are injured/not ready to pitch at the start of the season, missed a significant of time last year, and plays for a manager who lived off a extreme workload of those two players. If this team is dependent on the health of Wood and Prior (which I think it is), Baker is a poor captain for that ship.
  19. The twisted thoughts of someone who attended both UK and IU. :)
  20. I like the signing, I just hope it's a fair competition for the job. Is Grossman's ceiling (as far as production) equal to that of what Griese has been able to provide?
  21. I wouldn't want him. Not surprised he caved in once threats of suspending him took place. He needs to shut his mouth and do what Robinson tells him to do. All the idiotic crap Robinson had to put up with as the 1st black manager, I never thought this would be part of it. If he is so unwilling to switch positions during his FA year, will he be willing to charge hard towards the OF wall? What about a short fly between him and the SS? If I'm a teammate or a coach, this sends a red flag as far as where his priorities are. Right now, his priorities are on his own behind.
  22. Like Estes, he never had a serious arm injury, just a significant drop in velocity and unlike Estes has been able to successfully adjust his pitching style to his drop in velocity. There was a period of growing pains for him, though. He was getting pounded for awhile.
  23. http://yankeefan.blogspot.com/2006/03/2006-diamond-mind-projection-blowout.html Interesting projections, on par with how I feel how the Cubs will finish, I don't see STL with that many wins and the White Sox should have more wisn than that.
  24. Yeah, his inability to stay healthy has hurt him, I'm not a big fan of his follow through in his delivery. When I seen him in Beloit, he showed glimpses of what makes him a top prospect and then you'd see avg. pitches something you's expect from a roster filler.
