  1. I found that funny as well, at this stage, how much does OF defense matter?
  2. From ESPN insider:
  3. Pierre got ahead in the count there. Still can't hit a line drive.
  4. As much of a weak hitter as he was before the last year, he was able to turn on pitches, now everything is headed to CF or LF. Right now, he's Perez w/less power. Neifi has a similar style from the L side.
  5. I have Wade going in rounds 3-6. I like him more than Michael Broadway who was selected in the 4th last year, he's not as high as Bowden though. Sandberg's coach has only given Chmielewski 4 starts this year and hasn't pitched him in conference b/c of his lack of a breaking pitch. Oddly, he has the makings of a plus pitch, if he had more experience. He has learned how to pitch.
  6. Joe Benson the OF/C out of Joliet Catholic, who I mentioned last Spring, rec'd a 500K offer from the Astros. Rumors have him running a 6.4 60. He's 6'3" 220LBs of muscle, great arm and instincts in the OF. Can't handle a good off-speed pitch yet. There might be 4 Illinois HS players taken, 3 for sure. Benson (I would've given him 300K), Kapteyn (RHP 90-93 FB, plus slider, clone of Bob Howry) from what I've seen Boston has shown the most interest, Cubs have shown moderate interest. Connor Powers 1B out of Benet, I wouldn't draft him, too strong of a commit to Miss. St., strong athletic, not a good defender, struggles with breaking pitches. Cedric Redmond out of Joliet, tops out at 94, that's all he throws, dirt poor family non-commit, likely be had for cheap (I was told not to bother). The treats are in '07, one down by STL (Cards will likely draft him in the 1st 3) and a kid I absolutely love out at Sandberg (who hit 80 when he was 13yo), wants to hit 95 next year and sit in the low 90s.
  7. Juan, if you want, I could post the rest of his phone number if you wanted to vent your past A's frustration out on him. Kent probably wouldn't mind either. :)
  8. The Cincinnati Reds have released the following players who would like to continue in baseball. Terrence Long OF ML/AAA 334-538-**** Ronny Delgado 3B RA/R 941-702-**** A's fans shouldn't be too surprised.
  9. TT and Abuck know more than the doctors... Of course, it didn't impact Kerry coming back on time. Wait, nevermind.
  10. Am I the only one who remembers Prior running 3 miles after a game's workload? Everyone calls him soft, things like that don't come from a soft pitcher.
  11. I think he's a Cubs fan who will take the opposite angle just to get a reaction. Speaking of a thread like this and the subject of rectums, how the heck did Sunnydoo make it to the other forum?
  12. I don't think Adam wants him gone though :) Spitz was before my time...
  13. The kid is a tool, but he walks the line well. He's able to irritate people w/out doing enough to get banned. But, I'd ban his ass.
  14. No, he'll finish the season in pain. Then he'll contemplate whether or not he'll come back, have a huge media circus follow him and then call it quits. Athletes are getting good at this practice, except they're showing up at the last minute, regardless of how it screws w/the GM.
  15. Agreed, they already have that in Mabry. Personally, they should try and barter w/the Mets who just Zambrano for the year. Offer them Williams for Diaz (who's stuck in a log-jam w/the Mets) and see if they bite.
  16. Sure, if the Cubs had a chance to bring him at 1B, I would not have a problem with him coming back. The other parameters don't fit though. When healthy, he's productive enough to be a starting infielder (minus SS), his value will be that, especially if he can stay enough to merit sticking in the lineup. Hendry's feet have been in concrete b/c they're looking for a short-term fix who can be slotted back to a bench role (if he is even looking), his value for trade is based upon a reserve, not a starter. Right now, Hendry is at their mercy, unless some team makes a mistake & undervalues a player, he'll likely overspend, IMO.
  17. Maybe I'm overstating his lack of range, but at this stage, I wouldn't advocate putting him in RF. At this age with his leg injuries combined with having to learn a new position and his 3/4 delivery, I would not see it as a viable option. He'd have a much better chance as a 3B than in RF.
  18. This is funny stuff. Not because it isn't correct, but because its so ridiculously simple. How do baseball "experts" not understand this? Maybe Dusty needs to have a chat with good old Joe. Joe would also likely have Bynum leadoff before Murton. Isn't there a show on TLC that can have Dusty contact the spirit of Weaver?
  19. To take advantage of bunting and moving the runner over, a team typically has to be good at preventing outs (since you're already using one) and good at getting the runner in. Despite that unusual hot start w/RISP, the Cubs were still a poor situational hitting team and getting the runner over w/out being able to drive him in does nothing.
  20. Neifi is hitting .350 against Woody Williams in about 50 ABs.
  21. Cubs sent one of their area scouts to scout the West Tenn rotation, he was told to find the best of those 4, under the assumption that they were the best 4 in the AA rotation. He was at the game I was at on Thursday. I go from never seeing a Cubs scout, to seeing 2 in the last 3 days.
  22. Tough choice, Baker will have shorter tenure, so the potential of stagnation lies with Hendry. I told DJ that last year, the Cubs sent their area scout to Jackson to scout Hill, Pinto, Ryu, and Nolasco (I believe) to gauge which was the best among the 4. The higher-ups did not include Marshall into the potential equation, despite the scout thinking that Marshall was the best of the bunch.
  23. When did Dusty deserve the credit that he would've possibly changed?
  24. The wagon likes the warm weather.
  25. Bloop hit, fell in-between a couple of players between LF and SS, Bynum was held at 3B.
