  1. http://photorerun.ap.org/apdbs/Photo/views/mini/3178/3178145.jpg Even though it's more of a social issue, the racial divide in the picture is frustrating, even though it is probably more language based rather than anything else.
  2. It has a appearence of a good proactive move by Bane.
  3. It'll be interesting to see, in Seattle, he was not afraid to overwork his pitchers, you look at some of the totals of Paul Abbott, Freddy Garcia, and of course RJ and their workload were very high.
  4. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/cs-0702230349feb23,1,5809704.story?coll=cs-baseball-print Definitely a good thing and I like the concept of skipping a start if the pitcher is above his normal fatigue level.
  5. It would be an interesting move trying to trade Barrett for lack of defense and then keep the spot warm with Blanco/Soto for Fox. The Cubs have a potentially interesting scenario with Fox and Robinson at C.
  6. His work ethic outside of gametime is more telling the few times he runs out a ground ball hard during a close play. I'd be more interested in what type of shape he is in at Mesa rather than whether or not Piniella will get on him for not running out a ground ball. Fan expectation or not, his work ethic during practice as well as his conditioning program will have a greater impact in the season than what the gist of the article portrays.
  7. The visiting team hotel was/is the West Valley Inn.
  8. Wow, LSU was up that much and they're playing without Davis? kentucky is horrible. for some reason, tubby likes to sub in orbzut for morris when morris only has one foul. What's the vibe like down there about Tubby?
  9. What is wrong with how Floyd performed two years ago? Eh, I meant last year, I have no idea why I wrote two years.
  10. You talking about the Bears? If so, they'll likely hire from within. The LB coach Babbich (sp?) is the leading cand.
  11. Spring Training is working on things (new stance/diff. bat path etc.) and getting your timing back moreso than determining job status. I hope that Perry and Piniella would be able to see if Floyd's bat and body have slowed down to the point where he doesn't become the best choice that they will use Murton. I have to wait and see how Floyd is hitting the ball, anything like the past two years and that choice is obvious. As far as Bellhorn in '02, Delino was the starter at the start of the season and lost his job to Bellhorn who was brought in as a 25th guy, if you look at Delino's stats in '02, it's pretty obvious why someone even like Baylor would bench him.
  12. There's enough arms in camp without him.

  14. Greater loss? Sure. Greater possibility? No.
  15. I don't see this being a major issue at this stage either or in the future. I believe there's a greater possibility of Murton playing the small role of RH'ed platoon partner moreso than Hill being pushed out of the rotation.
  16. Arizona is also a terrible place to be shagging fly balls.
  17. Part of the reasoning was based on getting McGriff 30HRs for a consecutive years streak, after he reached that I believe Choi had a solid increase of ABs, not until he reached it. That's what upset me, putting individual goals over possible long-term benefits.
  18. Speed is just as important as instincts as far as range, they can make up for each other if one is lacking and the great ones have both.
  19. With Gonzalez, Floyd, Danks, and Haeger with another year of experience under their belts, losing him and getting the picks as well as the salary relief might help them more than hurt them. Of course, if Buehrle can't find the command of him change-up again, the team that signs him will be the ones regretting it.
  20. do you really think it'll be enforced? i sure don't. Early on, they'll probably make an emphasis of the rule and then forget it. We'll see if someone like Trachsel actually speeds up.
  21. The reduction of time allowed between pitches w/out runners on from 20 seconds to 12 seconds isn't fair to the pitchers who take more time visualizing the next pitch than others. If you want to speed up the game, creating normal sized ballparks and soften up the large golf-balls.
  22. head down. eye on the ball. kid's got skills. 8-) His hips are too open and there's way too much of an uppercut. :)
  23. Basically describes which leagues are more geared towards the hitters and more towards the pitcher. Just more in-depth than what I previously seen despite BP doing a little bit of this in each Handbook. http://www.rotojunkie.com/index.php?art/id:409
  24. Where's the hindsight being applied? I still haven't any valid comparison between the two pitchers, the #1 thing they have in common besides being a RHP SP is they both played for the Cards.
  25. While there's a likely chance that Marquis will improve over his '06 numbers, it makes no sense to include Carpenter as a point of reference. Marquis has been healthy his entire career unlike Carpenter and Marquis doesn't have the FB, curve, control, or command of Carpenter. check out cc's walk totals with toronto. And look where he's at now. Carpenter gets healthy and goes to one of the best pitching coaches in the game and finally gets to the point where his production matches his stuff and excels. Marquis doesn't have the stuff and has already been through 2 of the better pitching coaches over the last 20 years while healthy and producing flucuating results. Different styles of pitchers with different talent levels under different circumstances of trying to rebound. I don't see any similarity that has value.
