  1. Lou cracked me up heading out to the mound tonight. I was thinking to myself, he isn't trying to boost his confidence here (on his way to the mound).
  2. I thought he was by you Juan...
  3. It wouldn't be a case of spending to get the top 5 at every position (not even the Yankees could do so), it would be a case of putting a greater emphasis of overspending on marginal talent b/c they are the best player remaining. You just can't win by trying to sign the best FAs every year especially at the expense of a productive farm.
  4. That questions their work ethic, while I've never agreed with everything they've done, I believe they have tried to win a WS. I question their methods not their intentions.
  5. I don't care either way, while I enjoy Wrigley, the BS the Cubs have to endure b/c of the neighborhood and landmark status would not bother me one bit if they decided it would be best to move. Con't tearing down Cabrini Green and put it there. Have the local bars and condos surround it.
  6. While the concept of Cuban and an increased payroll as well as upgrades to the locker room (as much that can be done) as well as travel is a positive, I get concerned about him trying to play fantasy baseball ala Snyder in Washington. He's been the owner of a successful franchise that was terrible before he got there that he helped turnaround, but if his hand is in the cookie jar more than it should be, the increased payroll might not matter compared to building a team for the long-term.
  7. You hear Cub-bashing, I hear honesty. "Honest" or not, I have trouble respecting the opinion of someone who once suggested we trade Aramis Ramirez for Cesar Izturis. I have no trouble at all respecting Stone's opinion on the game of baseball. I don't agree with that statement, but it doesn't mean he is always wrong. He knows the game, I think he went out of his way taking jabs at players and Baker simply b/c his situation with the Cubs went so far downhill towards the end of '04 to the point everyone knew he wasn't back. He went out in a poor way, it's probably not his personality in general and having to deal with all the BS from players like Alou, Mercker, etc. as well as Baker, but he should've handled it better.
  8. How's it going PB? You'll see Goony, Raw, as well as others from the ESPN board.
  9. Okoye is def. a better fit in their scheme than Branch. I still would like a more run stopping DT in the mix along side Harris.
  10. I don't think the Bears would pick OL that early. I think with OL and CB, they have shown that they will take a chance on value being there later in the draft. At #6, I can see them taking a guy like Amobi Okoye, because of youth and upside. Landry I would love, but can't really see with Archuleta, Brown and Danieal already on the roster. I think despite Johnson's uncertain season, with Dvorcek and Adams at DT coming, I don't see it as much of a need early. I'm expecting Manning to be moved to CB and groomed to be the starting CB next year when Vasher likely leaves via FA.
  11. I know, unfort. after that (maybe Landry) there aren't many players of that quality that fit what the Bears need. Maybe trade down a few spots and pick up Levi Brown.
  12. If the Bears could get that #6 pick and McIntosh for Briggs/31st overall, it would be a great trade. Briggs is still more of a system LB as the weak side OLB, IMO. His strengths as a player fit the WILL better than almost anyone in the game. If they did pull that off, I would be hoping that Thomas falls to the 6th. Get a good OG in the 2nd rd. and trade up for Irons in the 3rd. :)
  13. If someone talked about Joe Smith from the Mets already, I apologize but damn I can't believe he's in the majors already. He wasn't as impressive the last time I seen him (Wright St. vs. UIC).
  14. It's definitely unfort. that some would make pretty harsh comments about him w/out knowing any details.
  15. When did Leaf have a similar amount of success as Prior?
  16. Free Gas for life complements of Vance. Ethanol or methane?
  17. http://www.bizofbaseball.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=910&Itemid=81 It was funny seeing him drive from Minneapolis to Beloit, WI and then drive back that same night to catch the Twins Low-A affil. playoff game.
  18. Sure, it's always a good thing to have the same velocity as before, it makes his curve that much more effective as well as the increased deception from throwing an easy 95 MPH as Prior did. It's important to have velo for the reasons you just mentioned, it just seems that everyone is caught up with how hard he throws. The Cubs in press releases after his outings do seem to mention how well/bad he locates his pitches. If his curve doesn't improve from what I watched earlier this Spring, then he could throw 95 again and get lit up. I was trying to remember my manual's reading on approp. angles for the gun to be effective, it gives the various degrees and likely MPH differences the further out you go.
  19. I value where a pitcher sits with his velocity moreso than where he can bring it once in awhile to get a hitter out in a key situation. If Prior throws 70 pitches (55 fastballs), his range probably was 85-91 with 5 probably 90-91 and 5 probably 85-86, with the other 45 87-89. That 87-89 is more important than either side of the spectrum, espec. if he did get 1 or 2 at 93. This is also more important for a starter than a reliever, who's exerting more energy than a starter conserving his for a 110 pitch performance, You can trust a radar gun, but if the reading looks odd compared to what he has previously done, it probably is. If Prior had one at 93 and he was sitting 86-87 with maybe one or two more at 90, I think the 93 would be off. In general, many get too caught up with the gun. I'd rather focus on his deception, life, and command of his FB rather than velo as well as the command and break of his curve.
  20. Overall they're accurate (I have 2 of them one Stalker and one JUGS), but if you have a pitcher throwing 70 pitches and ten guns on him, there's bound to be an odd reading out of the 700 readings. If he's been at 87-89 most of the time and he gets one of the reading at 93, there's not much of a conclusion there from that 93. As far as angles, it doesn't matter much as long as you are within about a 0-15 degree swing. A scout won't run his gun sitting by the on deck circle and are always within accurate range behind home plate.
  21. Some of you are put too much importance into the radar gun as well as the accuracy of them. They will always be different, if you have 10 stalker guns lined up in a row, about half will be different. If the scouts are sitting close enough to each other they can get an idea of what it was, if they aren't, then it becomes a question. I'd be more concerned of where his velocity is sitting rather than what it reaches as well if he can get his breaking pitch to become a plus pitch again with command and movement. I would include FB life and command into the FB equation as well as velo.
  22. They have 4 good ones coming in next Fall. Tubby was an intraconference coach as well (UGA), although that was more obvious of a promotion rather than the defending Nat'l champ head coach.
  23. Thad Matta ain't leaving he has an NBA team lined up for him. He has like 16 5 stars already committed. Plus OSU can spend some moeny too. Just ask Greg Oden  Glad to see Rick Barnes name not being mentioned. He has been mentioned as a poss. candidate, just not as much as Donovan, Calipari, Few, Izzo, and Pitino.
  24. I've always liked Calipari, despite his reputation, he doesn't run shady programs (or hasn't been caught). I believe Camby was working w/an agent at UMass, but other than that, his tenures to my knowledge have been clean. He's been able to rebuild programs that have been dead (Memphis since Hardaway and UMass). While I think there are better choices (Donovan), I think Calipari would do very well at UK.
