  1. Tonight was a game that most would not have wanted to attend. Going to anymore games? Not tomorrow.
  2. Tonight was a game that most would not have wanted to attend. It was the 1st time I've ever seen Blue ask a manager what the correct call is.
  3. When you score 3 runs or less in half your games, you're going to lose close games. Combine that with some poor outings from middle relief and it's a sign for trouble.
  4. He hasn't escaped suspicion at all, there have been plenty of questions about him. Maybe its talked about, but no where near the degree of Sammy and the other hitters. Do you hear any conversation that Clemon's shouldn't be a first ballot Hall of Famer based on the speculation that he could have used steroids? I don't. Sure production as well as massive size increases will focus attention on Sosa moreso than Piazza, his draft slot doesn't matter either way, you can throw Marcus Giles and every low pick that made it under that bus. With Clemens, his workout program is well noted but I don't think his body mimics that program (espec. his rear end).

  8. If it's a day game during the week, find parking near the field and walk a few blocks.
  9. It describes my baseball abilities (lack of) better.
  10. Were you cold in the shade, you were prob. pretty close to the Naper. Central baseball team? My 1st Cubs game since Aug. of '05 and this is what they gave me.
  11. You're also comparing a back-up IF'er with a corner OF'er, I would hope the everyday OF'er would hit better than the utility IF'er regardless of splits.
  12. Anytime you score 3 runs or less in 5 of your 1st 11 games (before mixing in slow starts from your 2 main set-up guys), you're going to have a bad record. Hopefully (like Piniella), this team is in the final stages of a feeling out process of becoming a unit.
  13. Having a labrum that was once injured and is now medically cleared does not always equate to that labrum being able to operate as effectively as it once did pre-trauma.
  14. Prior was fatigued and injured when he pitched in the playoffs of '03, bad things can happen and they did. It probably got progressively worse by pitching when it wasn't healed properly and the line drive from Hawpe.
  15. Orlando is pretty good, but not the best.
  16. I have heard a little about that Chinese pitcher for the Red Sox too.
  17. Let's the chips ride, trust Wilken, the area crosschecker, the national crosschecker, & area scout on their BPA. Trust that the Cubs instructors can maximize their talents and take the nec. steps to keep them as healthy as possible.
  18. If you start taking out power to manufacture runs, there better be something else there that improves b/c that approach won't likely work under any conditions given the possible moves they could make. If Pie wasn't the best defensive OF'er in their organization, I think it would be a poor move, but he would be significant upgrade over Soriano right now. A Soriano, Floyd, and Jones defense is amazingly bad. A Pie, Soriano, Jones/Murton/Floyd is above avg. on defense. Over the course of the year, having Theriot over Izturis would help make up some of that diff. on offense at the expense of a throwing arm. They can't start playing small-ball and expect to outscore them while having a terrible defense. I don't want them to start playing small-ball, but if they did, they better bring some defense to that table.
  19. The pen hasn't been any better. Long-term, the rotation is in better shape than the pen. It's not like adding an arm in the pen is taking away from improving the rotation.
  20. If Lou wanted to change the complexion of the team's style of offense and do so, he'd have to improve the defense as well. As bad as the offense was, Soriano had a poor read on the DB in the 1st which cost them some runs and Izturis had a bad game overall. If they wanted to improve defensively and team speed, call up Pie, shift Soriano to left. Also, to improve the team, as far as getting runners start Theriot at SS for Izturis and deal with an Eckstein type of arm for a better approach at the plate, they have similar hands in the field. If those moves are overly dramatic, show some patience.
  21. high school players fail at a higher rate than college players. With the 3rd pick, you're drafting for a star not safety. While drafting 3rd will likely give a similar ceiling player from HS or college regardless given how high it is, the trends have shifted towards more teams drafting college players and allowing HS players to fall. Personally, I would be disappointed if my team went for a safe pick rather than the higher ceiling.
  22. I would put faith into Wilken regardless of whether they are from HS or College, given his track record. Those drafts of past experiences were w/a diff. scouting director as well as now there are different instructors at the minor league levels. Using a general fear based on HS players is one thing (I don't agree with it) but has more logic than just applying it b/c it hasn't worked out only for the Cubs.
  23. I don't know what happened on the one today, he just missed it and Tony Jr. was alert. With the way Eyre was pitching, it didn't matter. It was either right down the middle or in the dirt today.
  24. If I was to guess who would make the next best GM, I'd go with Logan White (Scouting Director of the Dodgers). I: http://sportsblogs.latimes.com/sports_baseball_dodgers/2007/02/talking_with_lo_1.html II: http://sportsblogs.latimes.com/sports_baseball_dodgers/2007/02/in_part_i_of_ou.html
  25. Z shouldn't be showing up opponents at this stage (or ever), his performance was nothing to brag about.
