    They're just as much likely to bring him back as anyone is to signing him as a FA and Abreu will likely get 4+ mil per year than Winn is making for '09. Their salary players right now are making 64.15 mil, add Renteria and poss. his 9 mil and they're at 73.15 mil. Last year, they had a payroll of 76mil and the highest it's ever been is 90mil. They don't have what it takes to get CC. I don't see why they would want 3 scrap parts with one of them being expensive in Marquis to create another hole that they'll have to overspend for in the FA market.

    Welcome to the board... 1. I don't see why they would trade him. They appear to be trying to win now (despite lacking the talent to do so, IMO) and he's their best offensive player. 2. I'm sure the Cubs would be interested if he was available 3. Don't know.

    If I were a Cards fan I'd also be concerned that he is a 29 yr old MIF'er with a history of injuries. Those guys typically do not age well, and if you move him to any other position he's basically worthless. Just for fun, did Neifi or Macias ever put up a yr comparable to Greene's last season? They're different types of hitters, while Greene has above avg. bat speed and looks to drive the ball, Macias and Perez were more concerned with making contact in the right gap. Greene had an EqA of .215 last year, Macias has a career EqA of .232 and Perez is at .218.

    Greene is definitely an upgrade from what they had, he had poor discipline before last year and it got worse as far as him expanding him zone, espec. vs. lefties with good breaking pitches. Until he improves his approach, he's going to remind me more and more of Alex Gonzalez.

    STL would've been better off going after someone like Bartlett (who also had a subpar year both offensively and defensively) and using that salary difference towards additional players.

    They're on the verge of locking up Renteria as well. Obviously they whiffed on Zito and since Bonds left/didn't want him back, they're building around a core that doesn't exist.

    That's definitely a new one. I think trait would be a better word, he does have those qualities as far as his inside out swing and good bat control that allows him to send much of his contact to short RF as far as a prototypical #2 hitter. He also has a high GIDP rate which is not so good for a 2 hitter. Agreed, but he still hits .381 to right side, scored 68 runs 104 games when he hit 2nd and an OBP of .373. Given the Cubs current roster, it's either him or Derosa as far as viable #2 hitters.

    Agreed. Plesac was terrible in the play-by-play role -- worse than Joe Carter bad. How can you be so right and so wrong in the same post? I'm biased just b/c I like him and his family but with that said, he's much better talking one on one as far as baseball moreso than in the booth. Like Len and Bob, I think he underestimates the intelligence of those listening.

    Hopefully this means he won't be a sub when Brenly is out. He was too long-winded for the role of commentator, let Len descibe the action by picking and choosing when to analyze. It was the opposite when Plesac was there, analysis with random monemts of play by play. Hopefully, this will give Dave Otto a larger role.

    Who sees him suddenly turning his career around on another team next year? Depends on how you define turning around his career? There's a chance he doesn't become as injury prone as he been with the Bears. I don't think he'll ever be a great DT or much above what he has been wth the Bears.

    I don't see many wanting Greene anymore after last year and his salary doesn't allow teams espec. financially strapped teams like the Cubs to take the chance of him living up to his road splits which disappeared last year.

    I was leaning towards the FG but I could definitely see why they would go for it. Take the 3, worse case scenario they're tied going into the half with the Bears getting the ball out of the break.

    He's prob. better although there isn't anything consistent about Renteria from a yearly standpoint. The Cubs likely don't have much money that they need to spend on bigger holes than going from Theriot to Renteria.

    I'd go on 4th down inside the one every single time if I have a good defense. Granted, Peanut screwed up badly, but you put a defensive team like the Bears against a team w/ their backs against the endzone, the Bears should either come out of there with either a safety and a short field OR a punt and a short field. In previous years, that punt also meant a potential return TD. Good defensive/ST teams should be able to get their offense right back in position to score again if they fail on 3rd down. Also, nothing was wrong w/ running the ball. The FB dive was stupid. And the 4th down call was stupid because it was a slow developing play. If Forte hits that hole hard and straight ahead, it's a score. JSC was pretty bad. Orton was pretty bad. Rashied was bad. I know I complained about it early in the game, but I can't believe that they did not leave a HB or a TE to chip Allen. Shouldn't be necessary. Should be running a quicker hitter on the goaline anyway. It shouldn't be necessary but it was, St. Clair can't block Allen as that was made clear in Chicago.
