  1. Is this a rhetorical question? WHY can't the Cubs bring their A-game to the scrub teams too?
  2. WELL, CRAP. Corey needs some sliding lessons, I guess.
  3. Bunting for a triple. Thanks, Rocky D! NOW WILL SOMEONE PLEASE DRIVE COREY IN????
  4. Because there are so many stupid Dusty Principles that we can no longer keep track? Like, just go with it, dude. :) Because Dusty was talking about Enrique Wilson. I KNOW that - I thought OHCF meant that if it was Dusty's thinking, then why call it Enrique Principle?
  5. I'll get ill if Mark gives up a HR to Helton.

  7. You can't have much of a history if your manager lets you ride the pine or sends you down to keep some scrub (I'm not referring to Hairston specifically) on the roster.
  8. 1) That is a great logo. I dunno, that waving cub looks kinda wussie to me - unless you're making a statement about the team intentionally. :P
  9. I think it looks too much like the current Reds' C. And I like the blue pinstripes... I grew up seeing that.
  10. You mean we only have one series in August vs a team ahead of us in the Wild Card? Our remaining schedule is: Aug 26-28 vs Florida Sept 23-25 vs Astros Sept 29 - Oct 2 @ Astros The Cubs have alot of games remaining against the Astros (7 games) and the Cards (6 games). The Brewers are tied w/ us and we play them head to head 1 more time in Milwaukee. How embarrassing. I saw the Houston games, but did not mention them - just flew out of my head. I guess I see the Houston games as something we can control - we need to keep winning outright, but we do have ample opportunities (provided we don't get into another 8 game skid) to make up the deficit with them head-to-head. The East is another matter. We don't have that opportunity, except for once with Florida. Hopefully Atlanta will beat the tar out of the other teams in the East (hopefully the Cubs can get at least one out of Atlanta - boy am I not looking forward to that series), and they can beat up on each other enough to get them all down in the standings.
  11. I took a look at the standings, and realized something very important: We have the SAME record as the Brewers. I took a closer look at the schedule, and realized that not only are we AND the Brewers 5 1/2 out, WE have but one 3-game series left this season against anyone ahead in the WC race (Florida). We had a chance to help ourselves against the Mets during that dreadful week, but NOOOOOO! So, the way I see it is just win and hope for the best. Let the chips fall where they may, I just want to see good baseball from the team for the rest of the season... and hope it isn't too little, too late.
  12. Yeah, didn't realize there was a club option on the books... for either of them, actually. (What is "RC"?)
  13. Awesome. Listen, I LOVE Cedeno, but I do see two problems with this proposal: (1) What happens if CEDENO gets injured? I'd rather see EPatt come up and try his hand at SS than risk seeing a new (or worse, recycled) piece of Baker Boy crap du saison show up "filling in"... and then get the job. But assuming we're stuck with Dustbogger for another season, this leads me to my second point... (2) Let's be realistic - we don't have a prayer of seeing Cedeno starting unless Dusty gets the ax in the offseason. And even if Cedeno were to start w/Dusty as manager (that is, if Hendry were no longer to let himself be led down the primrose path by Baker, and put his foot down when it comes to personnel - who plays, where they play, and how often they will play), God forbid he gets injured or in an awful slump, because there WILL be an overpaid scrub Dusty likes to replace - er, fill in - for the guy. (See the vicious cycle?) Also, who should be at 2B? Mark Loretta is looking attractive to me - yes, he's older, but he keeps his mouth shut and does his job, and does it respectably well. Granted, he doesn't have speed, but he has half a brain when it comes to baserunning, and he GETS ON BASE. I'd rather see a steady bat at the top of the order than a streaky speedster.
  14. Slightly off-topic, but a package that included Giles and (I can dream) Mark Loretta is about the only way I'd consider dealing Maddux. It could be a win-win situation: we get the offense (including baserunners with BRAINS) and good D, and Greg gets his numbers down and wins up a little in pitcher-friendly Petco, which is also in the same time zone as home. The SoCal house could become Maddux family HQ during the baseball season. Do you mean this as a deal to be done now? Giles and Loretta are both FAs after this year, and SD is curently in the NL West lead, so what incentive do they have to get rid of Giles and Loretta? And especially for Maddux? At the time I posted this, I didn't realize that they were both FA. I don't think you can do trades after the trading DEADLINE? :D
  15. Mark Loretta, anyone? I had looked him up and found that he's a FA after this season. Only two years older, durable, leadoff caliber with the bat, decent fielding 2B.
  16. I doubt it. Maddux will be in the HOF as a Brave; I'd be surprised if I saw his flag on the Wrigley foul pole. He's not the franchise player that Ryne and even Billy Williams were. Maddux is more like Fergie Jenkins- he's respected and even beloved by many Cub fans, but that's not his identity, if that makes any sense.
  17. I just posted something in Transactions that I realized should be in here: Slightly off-topic, but a package that included Giles and (I can dream) Mark Loretta is about the only way I'd consider dealing Maddux. It could be a win-win situation: we get the offense (including baserunners with BRAINS) and good D, and Greg gets his numbers down and wins up a little in pitcher-friendly Petco, which is also in the same time zone as home. The SoCal house could become Maddux family HQ during the baseball season. From Re-sign DLee?

  19. If I had my druthers, I'd keep him AND sign another starter or TWO, because I don't trust Wood's shoulder or whatever it may be next year. (I'm sure I'm not alone there.) Also, now that I finally understand the evil demon that Larry Himes was, I'd be really ticked to see the org screw Maddux again. And it's not like Maddux is washed up. Yes, he does drive me nuts when he gives up multiple HRs in a game, but as I have said before, he still has the uncanny ability to bring the big game just when it's most needed. And his first half was better this year, I THINK - he stepped it up with Wood and Prior out. And the second half is still pretty darn good. Heck, at worst we have a steady innings-eater at the 3rd-5th spot in the rotation. So it's $9 mil - but we have other better players at less than that - I figure it evens out. Plus, if we can pay Sammy $16 mil not to be a Cub and Alou whatever we paid him in severance, $9 mil for a consistently healthy and dependable SP (crossed fingers) is a bargain. What's the commotion?
  20. This was a feature that I actually liked on cubs.com. I think that for the most part, the quoting system we have here works, but there are times when I'm interested in seeing the entire post(s) that was responded to, not just the "snipped" portion. It's kind of difficult sometimes to hunt down that one post in a mega-multi-page thread! Would this be possible to have those links available? I was thinking it would work best if the link were live on the username right above the snipped portion: [link]KatJ wrote:[/link]
  21. As a starter he sucks. As a utility player, he's awesome. And this is why he SHOULDN'T become a Cub. Dusty would overplay Wilson, and he would be sheer suckage. A guy like Preston Wilson is a liability to the team in the hands of Dusty Baker. EDIT: Sorry, I just realized I not only stated the obvious, but restated what you said earlier in your post.
  22. I know you qualified your statement by saying "hopefully", but that 8-game losing streak came at the hands of "slam dunk" wins for the Cubs. If these guys choke in the Colorado series, I hope Woody takes the bat to some players' lockers this time. The club can't afford the luxury, IMO, of dropping even one game in that series, with Atlanta and Florida coming up.
  23. Your offseason moves are a MUST for Hendry if (1) he wants to keep DLee past 2006, and (2) he wants to keep his JOB. Lee wants to play for a contender that has a legitimate shot at the playoffs and WS, and whose players want it as much as Lee does and have the talent and determination to keep after it. If Hendry doesn't get the support in the offseason, I'll be the first to wish DLee well in Boston.
  24. unnecessary trolling. unnecessary trolling? It's a very relevant stat that Pujols has stepped it up as the Cardinals locked up the division, while Lee went 0-for-forever during that 8 game losing streak that crippled you guys. Comments like these from Card fans make me hope the Cardinals really stink it up in the postseason. There is a good argument for both sides, but it's IMO bad form to provoke an argument (or ongoing heated discussion) on a rivals' board. Thankfully, we have just the thing to remedy that: Get it to Rivalries and watch the flipping game, please.
  25. Williams gets the badly needed K. One more out right now, please.
