  1. Why is this game blacked out on Versus? What a load of crap.
  2. 2-2-1-1-1 Oh alright so the Hawks need to take at least 1 of 2 in Calgary and finish it off at home. Win Game 3, lose game 4 on purpose and SMOKE THESE [expletive] in game 5! Never lose on purpose. Always try to win. The fans will get their cheers when the next series plays its first game in Chicago. Give no quarter, no breathing space, nothing. That said, I predicted the Hawks would win in 4.
  3. Plummer is just a bitter dude who wishes he could be as cool as Jim McMahon.
  4. Yep... if the Hawks would have lost I would have posted my list of 6 non-calls... that was one of them. But now... I'm too happy to cry about the awful officiating! He did get a penalty for that hit.
  5. Yeah, I think you're right. Calgary looked inspired (and the Hawks looked bad) through about 12 minutes of the 2nd period. Then the Hawks really started playing well. During the 3rd period, the Hawks were clearly the better team, though they did make a few really dumb plays... but that's hockey.
  6. Arena always had his favorites.
  7. Actually, in a completely circular way, I think Cutler (and the upgraded O-Line) helps both the defense and himself become better. One problem the Bears clearly had last year was time of possession -- they were in the bottom five (27th in the NFL) in the category. Even the anemic Broncos were better (25th) with their RB challenged offense and abysmal defense. Cutler will help keep drives alive for the offense. That will help the defense stay fresh and effective -- keeping the opponent's scoring down and (hopefully) leading to more turnovers and better field position. So, by helping the defense keep the score down, Cutler helps himself and the offense stay out of situations where he needs to force the ball into coverage, which will help keep his INTs low.
  8. Wow. I'm stunned. Just ... stunned. Great move. Cutler and a 2009 5th for Orton, two 1sts (2009 and 2010), and a 2009 3rd. I'll take that.
  9. SVG is out as Mexico's manager.
  10. Ching and Altidore make a pretty good combination. I was pleased with both of them. Ching held the ball well, draws fouls, and I liked his flicks and his ideas. Altidore missed a sitter but got a gimme from the keeper -- three goals was well deserved. Jozy needs to get stronger on the ball, but that'll come. His instincts are nice and having multiple players who will run at defenders is critical -- and Jozy is one of them. Bradley was okay in the middle -- not great, but not bad. Pablo, on first glance, didn't do much. But given his role, that means he did it well: no mistakes. Dempsey was actually very good. I'll touch on why he's getting undue criticism below. Donovan was our best player, hands down. He was really creative, and that's what we need. Torres adds a dimension that is also very necessary and valuable. I liked what I saw from Torres in the short time he was in there. We need to find a place for Adu, too. He's just too good to let rot. DMB is not a full back. Hejduk is not an asset. He was out of position time and again and his crosses are terrible. I'm pretty sure that the reason Dempsey hasn't looked very good is primarily because Hejduk does one thing: run. I wish Spector were out there. Onyewu was pretty solid; we missed him last game. A lot. I'd like to see Dolo-Gooch-Boca-Spector. Howard was untested, but we know he's our Timmy.
  11. McDonough is form over function. All that crap about casual attire and dressing people down is garbage. Who cares how people dress? And getting on people and yelling at them generally hurts morale, and makes them more likely to leave. Speaking from someone who's seen both sides of the coin, it's really easy at the top to proclaim a business professional dress code. But it's a lot harder on those who make less money than you do. It's also generally less comfortable.
  12. Run two different two-man wedges with good spacing moving along different angles.
  13. I'm going to be there as well. Probably not in the AO section this time. I think I'm taking my Mom, my sister *and* my wife. :D
  14. This is an inane argument. Let's please stop fighting about whether or various people think Huet sucks. It's ridiculous. Debate as to whether you think Khabi or Huet is better (and why), but everyone please stop the characterizations of other people's positions -- particularly when statements have been made in the heat of the moment.
  15. Yeah, I just don't get the hate. It makes no sense to me.
  16. Yikes, and I think the roadies for 1994 were even worse. I'm all for incorporating the stars and stripes into the uni design, but there's got to be a more subtle way. Yeah, those road jerseys are simply awful.
  17. Goal of the year. My Cap fan friends tell me that Ovechkin himself prefers this one:
  18. I like the '92-'94 home jersey. It has a simplicity about it that I like. Understated.
  19. Wow. I'm just imagining a Harris and Haynesworth rush up the middle. Me likey (too bad it won't happen...)
  20. Because otherwise we'll have 10,000 posts talking about how they'd like the Cubs to rob the Padres for Peavy. Too late. Well, crap.
  21. I'm really looking forward to watching Bradley this season. Great acquisition.
  22. Someone better knock Ott down hard on Saturday. He's quite possibly the dirtiest player in the league. Deliberately injuring someone calls for a long suspension -- a suspension which should start next Sunday.
