  1. Apparently the Padres have just become the first team in MLB history to be shut out five times in their first ten games of the season.
  2. And what a disappointing start for the Twins. It's not like they were favorites by any stretch, but they were considered by many to be a fringe contender. They have looked awful this far.
  3. This offense is almost the antithesis of the all or nothing hacking mass approach we saw for years. Few things are as infuriating as when you just give the opposing pitcher outs, and this team does very, very little of that. I'm sure there will be nights where the offense doesn't score much, but it will never be easy for the opposition.
  4. It's ironic that someone who is perceived by many as being a baseball "intellectual" like LaRussa has presided over the dumbassery we've seen from the DBacks over the past couple of years. It's way more an example of public misperception than irony. It's ironic because of the public perception. Seeming contrary is enough to constitute irony.
  5. They played the [expletive] Braves already. And now their fans (the less astute ones, anyway) think they have a good offense. They've played one decent team, and got swept.

  7. I think many Reds fans are about where we were in early 2013, as they seem not to accept where the franchise is. I've seen a few taking solace in the Cards and Bucs losing tonight, as if that matters for the Reds at all. If I didn't have a searing hatred of the Brennemans, I'd feel bad for them.
  8. I saw this on GRB a day or two ago, and am filing it away: A little puffed up after sweeping the worst team in baseball. to be fair, that was one post in a thread where most of them are voting that the cubs will win 100+ games True, but I can't wait to see reality dawn on the few who believe the Cubs are just going to turn back into a pumpkin.

  10. I'd say their garbage lineup is a bit more of a concern. For sure. Riding the best stretch in Yoenis Cespedes' career lulled them into thinking that they had a decent offense, I think. They really should have added an impact bat over the offseason. If they miss the playoffs with that rotation, it will have been a massive failure on the part of the front office.
  11. I don't mind the Father's Day one. The rest are bad, and the Home Run Derby one is a horsefeathering abomination and whoever approved the design should be flogged.
  12. I believe watching the Cubs win is much better. Much. Well, there's usually a positive correlation between the two, so it's the best of both worlds. If Cubs fans had to choose between the Cubs being good and others getting worked up about the team, I doubt many would choose the latter. We're not White Sox fans, after all.
  13. And that's the "good" Cardinal forum. To be fair, there are quite a few very good posters over there. But there are are also a number of irrationally homer-tastic, meatball, delusional wingnuts, a few of whom are the ones keeping that particular discussion going. Viva el Birdos isn't that bad on balance, either. Cards Talk is a total cesspool.
  14. As I know some of you have seen, a few of the guys over at GRB are a little bent out of shape about how much the Cubs are walking so far this year: You know, without a shadow of a doubt, that if it were the Cards walking at a record setting pace, Cards fans would be falling all over themselves to effusively praise them for their superior plate discipline.
  15. I was at work for the entire game, keeping track on Gameday, and I knew the first thing I had to do when I got home was fire up the Reds feed and bask in Brenneman's call of the last couple innings. I was not disappointed.
  16. I know the Cubs have won two of the first three games here, but I can't wait until they get the hell out of Arizona.
  17. I wish I could have seen that live, sounded like a bomb.
  18. I decided to take a siesta to cut time off the wait and woke up to this. Unfortunate to say the very least, but after I saw some of the stills of the collision, I was preparing for this outcome. Coming into the season people were asking where Soler and Baez would be getting their ABs. Now the answer to that question has been clarified. Certainly, Schwarber's approach is more advanced and this is probable a net loss in production, but if there was a position on the field where this loss could be absorbed, it was in LF. I didn't mean to imply in my earlier post that this loss wouldn't (won't, ugh) impact the bottom line at all, just that the team's depth will mitigate it to a fair degree. It sucks, but the offense will still be an engine of doom, and the Cubs will still win the division.
  19. DeGrom pulled from game with lat tightness.
  20. Yeah, I think the actual impact to the W/L would be minimal, given the team's depth. But knowing we were missing glorious Schwarbombs would make me sad.
  21. http://i.imgur.com/t3ncYqhl.jpg If the initial diagnosis of a sprain holds, we'll be freaking fortunate. :beg:
  22. Let's see if the Cubs can make the DBacks throw 200 pitches tonight.
  23. After the last series and tonight, the DBacks' pen has to be getting worn.
