  1. Need to take advantage of Reyes' lack of command. He's good, but he's not 1.03 ERA good. We let him off the hook for all his walks in STL, hopefully not today.
  2. Man, the Giants' collapse is really kind of astounding. But I'm in this weird place where I don't wand the Cards to make the playoffs because they're the horsefeathering Cards, but I don't want the Giants to make it because they're pretty easily the most threatening (potentially) team in the WC race (IMO). The Mets would be more intimidating if 2/3 of their vaunted rotation hadn't died. It's a shame Miami and Pittsburgh horsefeathers the bed.
  3. First half Hammel is pretty great. Just need to keep him on ice until the ASB somehow.
  4. Not as annoying as the 10 LOB. If you told me at the beginning of the night that Hammel would "only" give up four runs, I'd have predicted a win. Still, three innings left, and the rest of the Cards' pen outside of Oh is very underwhelming.
  5. Left Hammel in there one inning too long.
  6. This game feels like it should be 5-2 or 6-2.
  7. Well, that's the issue. Hrabosky is a lunatic homer. Most Cards fans I know can't stand the guy. It always baffles me that a quality franchise like the Cardinals has such a decidedly mediocre broadcast team. Dan McLaughlin is a fawning cheerleader, Hrobosky is an absolute joke, McCarver is a windbag and Shannon is just okay. I can't stand any of them other than Edmonds, but Shannon is the worst by a wide margin. He's not only terrible calling the game, his mush mouthed mispronunciations are absolutely awful as well. Shannon is the one I've heard the least, so I'll take your word for it.
  8. there's probably about a 6 or 7% chance of that happening (40% chance to make the playoffs, maybe 50% chance to win the wild card game, then maybe 35% chance of winning a series against the cubs). that does not seem like something that a competent baseball announcer should be predicting. 9. On the Cardinals' broadcast tonight, as the Cubs were shaking hands after the win, Al Hrobosky essentially made a guarantee that the Cards would make the playoffs and eliminate the Cubs there. It's possible, but that guy is such a horsefeathering clown.
  10. Man, what an absolute bummer. I never met Fred in person, but he was an integral part of the NSBB experience, and it's difficult to imagine NSBB without him. CubmanPi, my sincere condolences to you and your family.
  11. http://i.giphy.com/mwhLXQEKupENG.gif losing on mistakes brought on by what were dumb strategic decisions to begin with grinds the [expletive] out of my gears hated the bunt already and then rizz dumbs it up on the bases by being needelessly overly aggressive fowler should've been swinging away and then the league MVP was coming up I'm not particularly bothered by the bunt itself (though I generally dislike bunts), but far more so by Rizzo's tootblan. But I'm still more irritated by the wild pitch that allowed the Giants' third run to score.
  12. I find it almost incomprehensible that people wipe their asses while standing. Why would one do that? To make the entire process as difficult as possible? Do these savages also clench for added challenge?
  13. He closed both ends of a doubleheader Tuesday, had a day off, closed yesterday, and threw a bunch in the pen tonight. He's human.
  14. Chapman should not have been used today, imo.
  15. Chapman is going to be dead by the time October rolls around.
  16. This Giants/Mets matchup feels like the baseball equivalent of two people trying to clamber over each other to escape the sarlaac pit.
  17. With a 1,000,000 game lead I'm cool with him trying to find out what he has in these spare parts that make up the rest of the pen. I'm fine with Patton being used, jut not with multiple runners on. Patton has had his own share of control issues this year. Bring him in with the bases clean.
  18. Joe's bullpen management lately has left a lot to be desired.
  19. I really don't like using Patton on this spot at all. Bring in a more effective reliever to get out of this, then use Patton to start an inning. Don't bring in a pitcher with control issues with guys on base.
  20. Few things are as irritating as your pitcher issuing walks when you have a big lead.
  21. Man, the Mets are...not good.
