  1. I don't think 8 mil is too much for that kind of production. The question is who would we have to give for him. The Orioles know our system better than anyone else, so who would tempt them at this point? I guess that means that I would see him as an upgrade over Ward that could help us in the playoffs this year, as well as be a major cog next year.
  2. With their schedule, i wouldn't put it past the Brewers to finish that way. 40 games left means what, 18 starts for Sabathia?
  3. There's gotta be a lot of peeved Brewers fans.
  4. Since he cleared waivers, it would be a standard trade using minor league players or Cubs that have also cleared waivers. Of course, knowing how dealings with the Orioles work, we would be able to get Huff for next to nothing.
  5. I'm starting to take a liking to this Edmonds guy.
  6. If Blanco or Harden/PH doesn't hit into a DP, I see a Sori homering.
  7. I would say get up at 6 and show those lazy school employees how its done.
  8. I haven't read all of them, but mine is the All-Star Game winning league having home field advantage in the World Series.
  9. I did say if completely healthy. If Pedro were to ever stay healthy, he and Johan would be one hell of a 1-2 punch. There's a difference between being not healthy and too old. Pedro is not good now because he is too old...injuries are just a part of it. If you could take the best of all of these pitchers, say Pedro from five years ago and Santana from a couple of years ago, they would be head-and-shoulders above the others. Right now they do not belong as a duo. If you want to assume health, I think that Harden is the best pitcher of the entire group. I have thought so for the past few years. His only downfall has been health. Coupled with Z, I think they are the best combo with Haren/Webb a close second.
  10. They're 75% off at cardinals.com.
  11. It wouldn't be a complete season without a pair of DL stints for Wood.
  12. The Cardinals have done some stupid things today.
  13. why would you put Sosa so low? he had some very good years, but they came in an extreme offensive era. he only had one season with a WARP3 over 10. his career EqA is .292; hartnett's is also .292 and he played a tougher defensive position. billy williams was .299 and he was a cub his whole career. sandberg had 4 seasons of a WARP3 over 10, and i'm giving him a little extra credit since he was extremely productive until his wrist injury. santo's translated stats (if he'd played in a pitching-hitting neutral era) were .275/.370/.506 with 431 homers and 460 doubles; combine that with very good fielding and it's pretty clear to me that he's ahead of sosa. i shouldn't have to explain #2 and #1. It's nitpicking a bit, but Williams spent two years in Oakland at the end of his career.
  14. there's no way that certain teams (yankees/red sox) would agree to that. and frankly it would be unfair to them. What would ESPN say if they had no chance of a Yankees/Red Sox playoff series? They would also balk at having them in different divisions since that would mean they couldn't have 18 series a year between them.
  15. It was Kenney who was questioning Steve Phillips about Chamberlain's Cy Young chances if he continued to pitch the way he has for the rest of the season. Phillips dismissed him and basically called him nuts. Kenney finally let it go, saying that he didn't think Joba should win the award, but that he just wanted to start a discussion about it. I was thinking that they should let him start more than 12-15 games before crowning him the best in the league. There have been plenty of very good pitchers (a few have been Cubs) that had Cy Young stuff and arms of fluff. A couple of hours later Chamberlain left his start against Texas with a shoulder ailment. I guess that Cy Young talk is now on hold...until after his next start of 1 ER and 8 K in 6 IP.
  16. The Cubs gave me my present yesterday. I will send her over...when I am done with her.
  17. I am taking a group of 8 to the game...seven Cub fans and one Sox fan who will be cheering for the Brewers.
  18. I will be in Brew Town for the game tomorrow. The Cubs are 2-0 when I go to their games. A "W" is a lock.
