  2. Veal's stuff is fascinating to me. Granted, he's an extreme flyball pitcher, but he strikes out a ton of guys. I believe after tonight, he has a 72/35 K/BB on the season (reminiscent of Renyel Pinto), and he has only allowed 4 HRs in a little under 62 IP, which is respectable in Low A. If he can keep striking out batters at that rate and reduce the flyballs, he could become a good K/Flyball pitcher down the road. I'm curious to see what becomes of Yusuf Carter. Apparently the Cubs drafted him as a catcher, but he played in CF today. We'll see if they're just trying him around the diamond or if the catcher thing isn't going to happen.
  3. Both are fine players, but Bard's tendency to be a thrower instead of a pitcher and Drabek's supposed character/makeup issues are worrisome.
  4. When a guy is losing his mechanics and being wild, he's putting himself at greater risk for injury, ESPECIALLY some one like Zambrano who throws in the high 90s and already had 115 pitches under his belt. The difference between 90 and 100 pitches is not that bad. The difference between 120 and 130 is really bad.
  5. The ump was squeezing him, but a number of his pitches were missing pretty badly.
  6. Figures. He's exhausted, get the bullpen up, get Larry and Barrett out there for a chat.
  7. If I were an ump and I was behind the plate for a no-no in progress, I'd slowly expand my strike zone later in the game.
  8. WGN has him at 88 pitches at 1-1 on Burke.
  9. Die in a fire whoever spoke the magic "Perfect" word.
  10. Cripes, even Bynum is trying to get in on this!
  11. Ramirez nearly took one yard, but just got under it.
  12. I believe we call that the "Jacque Jones Pose".
