  1. Rockies are now on the clock! Remember, we're going for realism.
  2. Okay folks, here's the decision. We're doing a mock draft for this year. However, due to time constraints, we're going to have to do it in a quick amount of time since the draft goes down in less than a week. So, I am going to run it the quick way. The way it works is simple: -We will put it to a vote, team by team, where you make the pick. The first player to get five votes will be drafted. -For those of you not really up to speed on potential draftees, I will post five likely options for each team along with a short scouting report for each. You could pick any of them or some one else. -There will be a 12 hour time limit for each pick. If five votes for a single player are not accumulated in that time, the player with the most votes will be picked or a coin will be flipped in case of a tie. -We're going for realism here, so please keep in mind teams with budgetary constraints and players with signability issues, which will be discussed in the scouting reports. -This mock will begin immediately. If you have any questions, please post them in the thread or PM me. Thank you! First Round 1. Royals - LHP Andrew Miller, North Carolina 2. Rockies - 2B/3B Evan Longoria, Long Beach State 3. Devil Rays - RHP Tim Lincecum, Washington 4. Pirates - RHP Brad Lincoln, Houston 5. Mariners - RHP Luke Hochevar, Scott Boras 6. Tigers - OF Drew Stubbs, Texas 7. Dodgers - LHP Clayton Kershaw, Highland Park HS (TX) 8. Reds - RHP Greg Reynolds, Stanford 9. Orioles - 3B Billy Rowell, Bishop Eustace Prep HS (NJ) 10. Giants - RHP Brandon Morrow, Cal 11. Diamondbacks - RHP Max Scherzer, Mizzou 12. Rangers - RHP Joba Chamberlain, Nebraska 13. Cubs - RHP Jeremy Jeffress, Halifax County HS (VA) 14. Blue Jays 15. Nationals 16. Brewers 17. Padres 18. Phillies (from Mets for Type A Billy Wagner) 19. Marlins 20. Twins 21. Yankees (from Phillies for Type A Tom Gordon) 22. Nationals (from Athletics for Type B Esteban Loaiza) 23. Astros 24. Braves 25. Angels (from Indians for Type B Paul Byrd) 26. Dodgers (from Angels for Type A Jeff Weaver) 27. Red Sox 28. Red Sox (from Yankees for Type A Johnny Damon) 29. White Sox 30. Cardinals On the Clock: Toronto The Woodlands HS RHP Kyle Drabek (6', 175 llbs, BA #12, Brewerfan #5) - The son of Doug Drabek, he's one of the top few prospects in the draft. Has major off-field concerns which should make him fall a bit. While on the short side, he can pump his FB up to 97 and hits 94-95 consistently. Also has a nearly unhittable spike curveball, a decent slider and changeup. Mechanics need a little work. Solid hitter at SS too. UNC RHP Daniel Bard (6'4, 202 lbs, BA #15, Brewerfan #15) - Former ACC Freshman of the Year isn't quite the same as he was earlier in his career, but his stuff is still pretty good. He utilizes a low 90s fastball and a very good curve. Strongly built with a good head on his shoulders, he could end up being really good if he manages to get his high 90s stuff back. The main concern about him is that he's a thrower instead of a pitcher, which leads to inconsistency on his part. St. Petersburg JC RHP Pedro Beato (6'5, 210 lbs, BA #13) - Arguably the biggest unknown in the draft. The Mets had a legitimate shot at signing him, but decided to adhere to MLB's request not to offer him well above slot value despite lacking a first rounder this year. A survivor of the dreaded Tommy John Disease, he has bounced back in quite a nice way. He works in the low 90s with his fastball and has hit 96 with it. His slider and change could also become excellent pitches. He also features a curveball, but might end up scrapping it in professional ball. Getting him to clean up his mechanics and repeating them will be the biggest challenge, but if he can do it, he'll be a monster. Texas RHP Kyle McCulloch (6'3, 185 lbs, BA #16, Brewerfan #42) - Arguably one of the safest picks in the draft; it seems really likely he will end up becoming a middle of the rotation starter in his career. He's a control guy, with a terrific changeup and a high 80s/low 90s fastball along with some decent breaking stuff. He's polished and quite intelligent, but he won't likely be an ace any time in the near future. Whoever gets him will get a reliable innings eater, in all likelihood. Jackson HS (WA) OF/1B Travis Snider (6'0, 220 lbs, BA #17, Brewerfan #21) - The best overall HS bat in this year's draft. He has incredible power from the left side and tremendous patience at the plate. He's a great character guy with terrific makeup and work ethic. However, in the field, things get a bit dicey. He is not particularly fast or strong with his throwing arm, so he will likely end up at 1B or LF.
  3. Nice! I really like Gallagher's approach and in-game mentality, but have always wondered how well his velocity would hold up as he advanced, if the 89-91 reports were true and if the reports of him being unlikely to add velocity due to his large frame were true.
  4. Ehhhhhh...going to be tough to pull off this late going. I'll have to do it creatively...
  5. Why the heck does everyone on this team always show bunt? Z wasn't fooling anyone with that.
  6. I think most Juco guys wait until after the NJCAA World Series to make a decision on signing. As I mentioned earlier, they're given extra time to sign. Good performances there can help bump up signing bonuses.
  7. It's not so much as he's promising as he'd be a cheap in-house option to platoon with Jones in RF. No one thinks the guy will start, but he will most likely hit LHPs better than Jock.
  8. Ahhhhhhhh...I just saw it on ESPN's bottom line. The thread title hadn't been changed accordingly, either, so yeah.
  9. The new GM is Dayton Moore from the Braves.
  10. Hairston was one of those "take it or leave it" kind of guys for me. Decent player, but nothing special.
  11. Sammy for Nevin, Fotenot and the other guy. Adios, Jerry. We hardly knew ya'. Crouthers, who retired. The Orioles compensated with $$$ on that one.
  12. That "consistent, hard contact" part is what they take the most issue with. Apparently his plate discipline and pure hitting ability leave something to be desired.
  13. The entirety of that sucker is a classic: I think walks are overrated unless you can run," Baker said. "If you get a walk and put the pitcher in a stretch, that helps. But the guy who walks and can't run, most of the time they're clogging up the bases for somebody who can run." That kind of talk is nothing short of heresy for those in the OBP-is-king camp. Baker, an old-school sort, doesn't seem to mind. "Who's been the champions the last seven, eight years?" he asked "Have you ever heard the Yankees talk about on-base percentage and walks? Walks help. But you ain't going to walk across the plate. You're going to hit across the plate. That's the school I come from. "It's called hitting, and it ain't called walking. Do you ever see the top 10 walking? You see top 10 batting average. A lot of those top 10 do walk. But the name of the game is to hit."
  14. San Jacinto JC RHP Brad Depoy is under Cubs control. Since San Jacinto is in the NJCAA College World Series, the Cubs will have an extra 48 hours to negotiate with him after his team finishes. He's listed at 6'1 215 pounds, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding his stats.

  16. A Partial List of Signings I'm currently trying to figure out who the Cubs have under control and whether they've signed or not. I believe LV Ware is among them...
  17. Actually, the big rumor is that Hendry has already given extensions to the coaching staff, but has been waiting for a winning streak to announce it. Entire coaching staff or just Dusty? Either way it's a complete joke if true. I've heard both. It would explain why there hasn't even been a ceremonial firing yet, be it Rothschild or Clines, despite the putrid offensive and pitching performance.
  18. Actually, the big rumor is that Hendry has already given extensions to the coaching staff, but has been waiting for a winning streak to announce it.
  19. I'm still convinced that's not the real Booster Gold.
  20. :-s If you mean their major league team, it's pretty nice. But their farm system is absolutely putrid beyond Milledge and Pelfrey (with a nod to Humber, who was struck with the dreaded Tommy John Disease) thanks to the fact that they traded the farm to the Marlins. By the way, check Transactions. That Clemens part is no longer a possibility.
  21. http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/7749/clemens7iw.jpgOldLOL: Well, I do have something important to tell you. http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/1061/showalterrang9bq.jpgShowalterTheDoor: Well, what is it? http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/7749/clemens7iw.jpgOldLOL: I'm retiring. http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/1061/showalterrang9bq.jpgShowalterTheDoor: Alright, well at least now we know yer done. That wasn't so hard now was it? http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/7749/clemens7iw.jpgOldLOL: Yeah, I'm thinking I'll retire for my usual 3 months which would bring me back just in time for the All Star Game. http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/1061/showalterrang9bq.jpgShowalterTheDoor: Aw *** damnit! http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/7749/clemens7iw.jpgOldLOL: Yeah! That way I could solely be an All Star Game pitcher. http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/1061/showalterrang9bq.jpgShowalterTheDoor: But ya got croaked in the All Star Game last year. The only reason ya got the nod was b'cause everyone thought ya were retarin. http://img432.imageshack.us/img432/7749/clemens7iw.jpgOldLOL: Exactly! And they'll continue to think that until I'm dead! Hahaha the system works!
