  1. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand here come the gopher balls.
  2. Correct, but as the leadoff hitter, he will not have as many men get on base ahead of him as he would be if he were hitting, say, 7th or 8th. That stat might be a rate, but it requires a man on first, so it is mostly about sample size and opportunities.
  3. If Walker would have moved Pierre over like he should it would be 2-1.... Yes, because clearly this game is going to be won with small ball.
  4. Walker, Bynum, and Pierre are the only Cubs position players on the team who have hit into double plays at a below average rate this year. Move Pierre down the lineup and that would change in a hurry.
  5. Gee, I wonder why Zambrano is working through a dead arm period when it's not even halfway through the season!
  6. He got mauled by a grizzly on his way to the park.
  7. I'm in the National League now, gotta play like an NL manager. Apparently, in order to manage in the NL, you need to have the IQ of a concrete block.
  8. I'm setting the over/under on the number of runs that score in the rest of the inning at 2.5.
  9. Wasn't he on 2nd? How did he not score? Decided not to test Juan Pierre's fearsome arm, since it looked routine at first.
  10. No Bob, against this team, Jim Leyland would be a freaking idiot to waste outs.
  11. Ugh...four guys I wanted the Cubs to acquire over the past few years.
  12. Wow...just...wow. He's got Austin Kearns' ears, Kyle Farnsworth's old mullet, and Brian Urlacher's voice (only with more marbles in his mouth).
  13. Please tell me that wasn't Samardzija I just saw being interviewed.
  14. Is it sad that I can see the desperation in Len's eyes?
  15. With this team, they'd probably platoon him with Bynum in left and send Murton back down to the minors.
  16. Yeah, definitely... ...hahahahahahaha, yeah right! They'll probably bring back Enrique Wilson and Marquis Grissom in a futile attempt to add a spark to the offense.
  17. Should be interesting to see how Mexico handles Angola's defense. I'm really hoping the Ivory Coast advances into the Round of 16. They're a surprisingly talented team that unfortunately got stuck in a bad group.
  18. Adding onto this. Whoa, Greg Maddux is still alive? A: Yes, and he's been the second most consistent starter on this team since 2004 behind Carlos Zambrano...which is more of a testament to how sad and injured this pitching staff has been more than anything else. What's with that orange-colored blob that seems to be hovering in the stands behind home plate? A: That's our general manager, Jim Hendry, wearing his favorite shirt. Holy crap, has Juan Pierre really been THAT BAD? A: Yes. He's been in all 65 games this year and has accumulated all but 13 PAs in the leadoff spot. You know that Nolasco guy who's pitching for the Marlins and has been a nice fantasy pickup this season? He was one of three guys traded for Pierre. Does Phil Garner still resemble Yosemite Sam? A: Even moreso than ever. I'm going to be in town this weekend for the series. Where are some good places to go before and after the game? A: Metromix is your best friend for that. We have a promising young rotation along with a quality offense and some intriguing guys down in the farm system. Any advice for us on how to avoid what happened to you guys? A: Beware of pitcher overuse and short-sighted trades. Do you guys think you could beat the Royals in a best of seven series? A: I don't know how, but game seven would likely end in a tie. Are there any guys on your team worth watching? A: At this point, just the pitchers. Carlos Zambrano, Carlos Marmol, and Sean Marshall are all young, talented, promising, and producing. The bullpen is decent when it's not busy lighting itself on fire. The coaching staff has managed to get into the ears of Ronnie Cedeno and Matt Murton, so they've been on a steady decline recently. Jock Jones is pretty good when he's hitting well...but he's been slumping lately. This weekend is going to get ugly for you guys, isn it? A: Yep.
  19. I think he'd merely confuse most of the players when, during a discussion on the fundamentals of dumping the ball into the opposite field, he'd go off on a random tangent about waterproof khakis or how his dog ate his credit cards.
  20. Yep. Besides, you'll find plenty of people around here who probably hate the White Sox as much as you do...if not moreso in some cases.
  21. I know a number of you guys are wandering around this site, seeing what the deal is with the Cubs. Come on out and introduce yourselves. We're bored and could use the entertainment. :D
