  1. Probably not, but I'd have to think long and hard about it.
  2. Eh, I'm ambivalent towards this trade. The Cubs didn't give up much and they didn't get much. *Shrugs*
  3. The fact that Hendry's list does not include Zito or Schmidt does not bode well.
  4. Only for questionable home runs and really close calls at 1st, imo.
  5. Williams went into the crapper this season, which is a crying shame considering he looked like he had turned it around at the end of last season.
  6. Actually, there have been studies done on that. Essentially speaking, very few pitchers have shown the statistical ability to be able to control and sustain their BABIP against for any meaningful length of time. Those that can do it have only been able to do that over a relatively short period of time. Moreover, those pitchers are the best pitchers in their prime (Maddux in the mid-90s, Pedro in the late 90s). Pretty much all other pitchers are at the mercy of BABIP. The bottom line with BABIP is to say that everyone eventually regresses to a certain mean. That doesn't mean every .350 hitter is eventually going to become a .250 hitter or whatever. You can have a high average and still have a BABIP within that mean.
  7. Problem is, Lou Pineilla and Jim Hendry might think otherwise.
  8. Red Sox won the Matsuzaka Sweepstakes, the Devil Rays won the bidding for Akinori Iwamura. To my knowledge, Igawa's bidding has yet to commence.
  9. sure, they were cheap and young, but their 1.41, 1.56 and 1.58 WHIPS last year weren't anything you'd actively try to acquire. In other words, having seen what they did last year, you wouldn't try trading for them, and they would all be behind Marmol/Marshall/Guzman/Hill/Ryu in the Cub pitching logma. Part of the reason why I personally am annoyed and upset about the Pierre trade was that those three guys could have been put to better use than what likely will be a one year rental of a CF whose only plus tool is his speed. Teams might have been willing to pay more than that for those three guys. Heck, all are still young and developing; I wouldn't expect all of them to continue to have WHIPs that high (especially Nolasco). Plus, given all of the injuries to that cadre of pitching, maybe it wouldn't have been a bad idea to have Mitre, Pinto, and Nolasco thrown in there.
  10. We'll see if that was the byproduct of the GM or the ownership. Hunsicker is competent, but if he's under mandate from ownership to attempt to recreate the Kazmir deal whenever possible, well, yeah.
  11. Scott Moore is now expendable. Hmmmmmmmmm... :-k
  12. At least the Cubs may have submitted a semi-serious bid.
  13. I'm just happy he's back, contract be damned. Edit: Crap! Just missed being the one to get the 100th page. :(
  14. This is comparable to having a really hot ex who gave you some awesome times together, but you also broke up with her in an ugly way after she lost her looks and went crazy, now trying to get back together with you and doing it in kind of a sad and vaguely desperate way.
  15. I'm guessing most of them would have gotten drunk irregardless and just checked NSBB because they knew the pending deadline. Normally they'd be wiser than to check out NSBB while drunk. Your mom would be disappointed in you. :(
  16. One step at a time, imo. Hopefully, that cliff will turn out to be a soft hillside which starts in the 5th year of his deal. :D
  17. No one really knows, in all truth. My guess is they did, but I'm guessing there are all sorts of shenanigans (tampering, negotiating in bad faith) going on.
  18. 1) Sign Zambrano to an extension. I don't want to have to go through this whole thing again next offseason. :( 2) Sign one of Matsuzaka, Zito, or Schmidt. This team needs another ace pitcher in a bad way; that much is obvious. 3) Go out and get a big bat. Alfonso Soriano is definitely attractive, but how about exploring potential trade options as well? We've all heard rumors about a number of hitters being available this offseason (Adam Dunn, Miguel Cabrera, A-Rod). The Cubs might not have the amunition to make some of these trades, but getting one of those guys would definitely help put this team over the top. 4) Sign one of Padilla, Lilly, or another comparable pitcher. This team also needs a somewhat reliable innings eater at the 3/4 slot. Having two open rotation spots at the 4 and 5 just won't cut it coming into next season. We do not know who can be relied on from the Prior/Marmol/Guzman/Marshall/Mateo/Ryu/etc group of pitchers. The odds of one of them becoming effective next season are very good. The odds of two or more...not as much so. 5) Go out and get a decent bat. Getting two big bats would be terrific, but that's rather unrealistic given the prior options. Guys such as Dave Roberts and Mark Loretta would be terrific options for guys who can supplement this offense and boost the team's OBP. More to come later. :D
  19. What's your wish list for the rest of the offseason? I'll post mine in a bit...
  20. So it's 5 years with a mutual option for a 6th? Nice.
  21. Okay, so now we're just a decidedly mediocre team. Get crackin' Jim, you've got a long road ahead.
  22. I'm glad you were right. But, we reserve the right to disagree with you on all future free agent dealings, trades, signings, promotions, firings, etc.... And he reserves the right to disagree with us, in turn. ;) So, how many people went and got drunk for naught last night?
  23. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. :D ;) :P Thank Len you were right.
