  1. I don't see Miller as a possible #3 for this team, given the team's current structure and his recent health. He'd make a fine option among the group of Prior/Marshall/Guzman/Mateo/etc, but I think it would be a mistake to see him otherwise. This team still needs an ace and an inning-eating #4. Miller does not qualify for either, imo.
  2. I dig his competitive attitude and his openness, considering how much time he spent with the foreign players. If the guy won't have much trouble adjusting to American culture, that'd be one less thing for a team to worry about. We'll see what happens. I don't know enough about him in terms of his athletic ability, so whether or not he can play 2B or CF is a concern to me.
  3. Plus that $30m would not find its way into said player's pocket.
  4. It don't matter to DeJesus!
  5. There are other Japanese pitchers out there for the Cubs to pursue beyond those two. However, it sucks that there is now one less on the market.
  6. Is this a Top 100 list or just a list of guys to keep an eye on? Nice job putting this all together, by the way.
  7. The question is also how much it'll cost monetarily to keep Wells beyond this season. He's a good player, but not worth $15m a year.
  8. He was originally drafted as a SS by the Tigers, but they moved him to 3B because he simply did not have the tools needed to play that position adequately.
  9. It depends on what the Cubs would have to give up. I personally think Wells is overrated, but he's better than most other options the Cubs have for CF. Depending on his salary, they could still acquire Soriano to play a mediocre 2B while pounding the heck out of the ball. Given the Blue Jays' inclinations, I'm guessing the Cubs don't have much in the way of position prospects that would interest them. Looks like pitching would probably be the way to go.
  10. Protection isn't usually ever a factor. As far as having a metric to measure it's effect? My memory is that metrics tend to show that it doesn't matter how you construct a lineup in terms of the batting order and its productivity. Could be wrong, though.
  11. From FJM:
  12. Henry has a large family. Zambrano must be busy on his laptop again.
  13. Let's hope that dog is psychic, in that case. :D
  14. I like this man's line of thinking.
  15. If that is the case and I'm Hendry, I make an end run at every single player who can contribute now that I could get my hands on. If the Tribune is really giving him $115m to work with, he will have the resources he needs to sign quality free agents and to pursue pricey trade options. I would also sell the farm for any of the top hitters I can get my hands on. While I would keep some guys for rotation purposes, I'd be fine with trading just about anyone in the system if it got me Miguel Cabrera, A-Rod, Jason Bay, or whomever. I would not overlook guys who might be a touch older or whatever, but I would definitely focus on guys entering their prime who are incredibly productive.
  16. I'm hoping that people are being chicken littles in this thread with all my heart and soul. I really want to believe that Hendry will be able to retain Aramis Ramirez. However, if this spirals out of control and Rammy jumps ship, all hell will break loose. I'm not looking forward to that.
  17. The only problem with that deal it is that Miller can't be traded until a year after he has signed a contract. Still, given that Lee is under contract for a long time, paid a reasonable salary for his production, and is entering his prime, I'd try to make an offer along the lines of Bonderman, Granderson, and Maybin for Lee and Izturis if Guillen's knees are as bad as it has been speculated.
  18. His agent probably isn't with him at the moment.
  19. Yeah, Bonderman has been coming around as one of the top young SPs in baseball. I don't see why the Tiggers would deal him for Jones. Murton and prospects, on the other hand, seems like a much more likely starting point.
  20. I've seen a mock that had him going as the last pick of the 1st round -- to the Chicago Bears -- so he might get a chance to attempt to play both sports in the same town.... Best part of that mock draft was seeing the Bears projected as the last pick. :D That never gets old. 8)
