    He threw in the mid 90's in high school. I doubt he'll be able to reach that again, but the Padres have to salvage something. Was this the worst #1 pick in professional sports over the last 10 years? Depends on how you view it. In terms of talent, there's a good argument that he is. However, compared to the contracts #1 overall picks in other sports compared to him, I'd say probably not. Some other candidates to consider... Kwame Brown (NBA) Michael Olowokandi (NBA) Bryan Bullington (MLB) Josh Hamilton (MLB, Arguable) David Carr (NFL) Courtney Brown (NFL) Tim Couch (NFL)

    Wow, that's some pretty poor research. He seriously used Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson as examples of pitchers who do a good job of maintaining their health? Really? How about mentioning that Prior collided with a midget second baseman and getting hit on his pitching arm with a screaming line drive? How about the fact that the Cubs never fired Baker and instead simply chose not to re-new his contract? This guy's a decent writer, but he throws in way too many baseball cliches and baseless statements for my tastes. However, some parts of it just anger me...

    If we're going to daydream about bringing in certain GMs here, why not Schuerholtz? He's done a terrific job with the Braves during his tenure and seems to have surrounded himself with some terrific scouts.

    Im sorry lol have at it cubs...funny how they lose when the brewers lose...i bet once the brewers start winning again, so will the cubs it is going to be a long season And odds are, come September, they'll still be in contention.

    To me, this is key with Oden and any big man in general. When you're talking about guys who are extraordinarily tall, that tends to lend itself to questions about injury problems. In particular, with guys that big, anything involving the back, knees, hips, and feet should give teams reason to heavily scrutinize all medical records and whatnot. Let's face it, the human body can only take so much strain. When everything is that spread out, certain injuries can be much more difficult to recover from. When you play so many games a year on hardwood floors with guys giving you hard fouls on a regular basis, it takes a toll. Those particular parts of the body have to support a lot of weight as it is; injuring them just makes things more difficult. Injury-wise, all Oden has to his name is a wrist injury. That's about it. While that kind of an injury is some cause for concern, if it were something having to do with his back, legs, or feet, teams might cool off on him. If you have a big man hindered with that kind of an injury, it makes you wonder if it'll linger. However, with Oden, he's got a clean bill of health. To me, that will help his NBA career about as much as anything else he puts on his resume, considering his level of athleticism and talent.

    How are the Netherlands treating you? Pretty well. The Hague is a really nice city that attracts a ton of tourism, so a lot of people speak pretty good English. I just found an apartment and will be moving in there on Friday. It's almost 3 AM here and I've been up all night working on some things to make my stay easier (financials and whatnot). However, jet-lag has made me about as awake as can be at the moment. I think I start work Monday. Yay.
