I'm still scratching my head over what happened to Jerome Williams. It looked like he had finally figured everything out at the end of 2005, then he just completely fell off the face of the planet in 2006. It's kind of strange how no one talks about the impact his ineffectiveness had on this team since 2006, especially considering he had a rotation spot locked down after 2005.

from what i have read today he is projected to be a .290-.310 hitter with 35-40 homer power Yeah, maybe if you total up two seasons. i've seen him play every day and he has 40 homerun power. i don't care what stats you use. That's good to hear. This is the guy who I wanted the Cubs to draft, so I'm happy. My BS Detector crashed through the roof when I read Rocket's post. Something tells me he's not being serious.

Holy Sh------- . That's not going to be fun to watch. Ah come on, he strikes out three out of every ten ABs against Marquis! It'll be awesome. :D

You can go all across the spectrum from guys who were picked #1 overall and fell flat on their faces to guys who were picked in the 20th round and turned out to be surprisingly good. My personal philosophy is this, and my understanding is that this is a common philosophy in all sports. When you are drafting, you always take the best guy on the board, regardless of need. You absolutely never know what the future will hold for your team. Perhaps A-Ram will still be an All Star-quality 3B by the time he reaches 33. Perhaps not. In either case, Vitters is incredibly valuable to the team if he progresses as expected. If he has developed to the point where most people project him to hit over .300 and be a 30-35 HR a year guy, the Cubs will find a place to play him, A-Ram or not. Moreover, other teams might have strong interest in him if he is hitting that well. That kind of a bat could fetch a terrific return in a trade if the Cubs are in the market for any position. Now, whatever the result may be, we will not know for at least another three years. Things happen to guys, both good and bad, and none of us can correctly predict where Vitters will end up when all is said and done. For now, it'll be fun seeing how he develops.

Castillo? Maybe I've been abroad too long, but wasn't he sent back to Mesa? If you mean Carrillo, this is an interesting turn from where you stood at the end of last year when he came up to Peoria briefly and you were not impressed. What's changed about him since then, out of curiosity?

The Cubs actually have drafted a couple of players from Lamar in the past few years. Micah Hoffpauir is the first one that comes to mind.

I love hearing about hitters who take the ball other way and make an effort to do so. Way too many guys get pull-happy (JOCK) and it only ends up hurting them in the end.

Really???? I don't see why. He should be ready for Boise this season and peoria next. It all depends, as always. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a look late in the season at Boise, though.

After Colvin, the position players the Cubs have in A ball and below don't exactly inspire confidence in me. Maybe Rundle, Andersen, Baez, or someone like that will destroy the ball at Boise, but right now, I'm not all too giddy about the hitting prospects this team has down in Daytona and below. I think Andersen will shoot up the rankings after Boise this season, jmo. I liked him as a sleeper before you did, so :P
