  1. Next offseason, I'm going to request this board put a moratorium on any rumors involving the Orioles until everything is finalized and it's reported as official on MLB.com.
  2. He was a good defensive catcher, but that was about it. Sad to see the guy go, but he had a good career and a WS ring. That's pretty good, imo.
  3. Flowing blonde locks do not lend themselves to grit. In fact, they make old, balding, overweight sportswriters jealous and vindictive.
  4. TOWERS I'm back and forth on Towers. He's done a good job, for the most part, when it comes to acquiring pitching, but when it comes to acquiring offense, drafting, and developing players, he hasn't been all that good.
  5. Well, don't forget that our boy Jim traded 3 solid arms for him only 2 years ago.....I'm still trying to get over that. Yeah, it still haunts me that we lost 2 terrible SP's and one average bullpen arm. Sucks that we got that Donaldson guy as well. It's not necessarily that I'm pissed off about the success of the players we ended up trading. Far from it. It's just that those three guys had enough value at the time to be traded for someone better than Juan Pierre.
  6. There's a difference between "dumb" and "disastrous". Hendry has made plenty of mistakes when it comes to acquiring players, be it through trades or free agency. If you want the most egregious ones, I'm willing to throw out names such as Jacque Jones, Jeromy Burnitz, and Jason Marquis as examples of higher profile signings which he screwed up. Considering Pedro Feliz would have been a bench guy, names like Damian Jackson, Neifi Perez, and Lenny Harris all immediately come to mind. Those are just through free agency. I can happily throw out some great names he's traded for during his tenure. Jose Macias and Juan Pierre bring back all sorts of fond memories, don't they? Come on, you don't think this team would even have considered Feliz, given Ramirez's continuing nagging injuries and our perceived lack of RH power off the bench? You don't think Hendry would have considered giving Feliz a one year contract? You think Hendry would have been fine letting Theriot, DeRosa, and Fontenot fight over the backup 3B role? You have more faith in the man than I'd have expected. Calling him mediocre is a compliment.
  7. I'd be fine getting him in a trade with the Dodgers where the Cubs make out like bandits. I like to think it's possible, given how much of a complete twit Ned Colletti is. However, it won't be happening.
  8. A drop in production, really? He had 8 less hits in 07 than in 06, but his average went up a point. He had 9 more runs, and 1 more RBI. Oh, and 6 more stolen bases along with an increased SB%. Hmmmm, his SLG did go down, guess we shouldn't be looking for him to bat in the middle of the order anymore should we? He's garbage. I can't believe anyone would seriously advocate for Pierre's return.
  9. I'm thankful someone took Fleas off the market. I was getting nervous that Jimbo might pull one of his patented dumb signings.
  10. But you have to understand, he made Granderson fall down!
  11. Of course not. Just like Pie's attractiveness to the Marlins died when they traded for Cameron Maybin. Just like Pie's immediate attractiveness to the Padres died when they got Jim Edmonds. We knew they liked Pie but we did not know they liked Murton earlier. We could have easily turned the two of them into a good haul. I think you know who I am talking about. Chase Headley? By the way, if we trade for Pierre, I might very well go on a three state killing spree. He's one of my most despised former Cubs.
  12. Didn't Eckstein have abysmal numbers in the 2006 playoffs until about Game 3 of the WS or so? By the way, we had a speedy guy who could hit around .300 back in 2006. If you want Juan Pierre back, be my guest.
  13. If the deal is really Bedard for Jones, Clement, and two of Tillman, Triunfel, and Balentien, then MacPhail wins the trade big time. Don't forget Morrow, imo.
  14. I'd love to see the Cubs trade for Santana, but the proposed years and numbers for his extension that have been thrown around severely tempers that enthusiasm. It'd be nice to have some flexibility in FA over the next few years. Santana could really hamper the Cubs in that regard.
  15. Be very afraid. Robles is a speedy, lefty hitting 2b. Shut up, shut up, shut up!!! *Plugs ears* I can't hear you!!!!
  16. Cue goats and Steve Bartman.
  17. He has potential to be a very good 2B down the road. However, considering everyone this team already has who can play 2B, Hendry continuing to chase Brian Roberts, and the fact that Antonelli bats right handed (groan), I don't see Antonelli as a likely target in any trade with the Padres.
  18. Stauffer's incredibly damaged goods at this point. I don't want any part of him. The two names in their system who seem attainable and are of interest to me are Wade LeBlanc and Will Inman. Both ended their seasons at AA and appear to have decent ceilings as middle of the rotation types down the road. I also really like Matt Antonelli, but his position (2B) and his stats suggest a few problems to me in terms of the Cubs' ability to attain him and where he'd fit in down the road, considering the glut of MIFs on this team.
  19. In other news, water is wet.
  20. Word is the Rising Sun image is a sign of Japan's imperialism and war-like mentality. Apparently, the image is rather offensive in places that have suffered under Japanese rule and attack, such as China.
  21. And they play in the same division as the Indian and Tigers. And Twins. Don't forget the Twins.
  22. A Ryan Theriot ad? Sounds cringe-inducing.
