  2. Jake Fox is a future bench player. I'm happy for the guy's success at AAA and all, but frankly, it's not like the Cubs called up an uber-prospect who was destroying AAA. They called up a 26 year old 1B/OF who caught fire over two months in a VERY hitter-friendly league. I'm happy for his success and all, but, at best, I think he'll turn out to be a league average 1B. That's not a whole lot to get upset about.
  3. There might be something to that, but if you look at most of the prolific power hitters of this era, you'll find a ton of strikeouts scattered among them. Guys like Albert Pujols and Aramis Ramirez are more the exception than the norm. There was a study done on I want to say The Hardball Times awhile ago that looked at the correlation between power hitters and strikeouts. The general finding from the study was that an increase in home run hitting tended to lead itself to an increase in strikeouts. I'll post it if I find it. I think it's difficult to compare HR hitters across eras in that way, too. Pitching and hitting have changed so much over the years.
  4. I want Tim McCarver lecturing me on the nuances of a Chapter 11 filing for GM and Chrysler.
  5. He then went on to talk about how you can't hit the ball under the wind. Really interesting stuff. Banner day for Tim. I love it when baseball announcers give us science lessons. I learn all sorts of things I never did in grade school, high school, or college.
  6. Starters for today... Iowa Game 1 - Samardzija Iowa Game 2 - Reinhard Tennessee - Lambert Daytona - TBD Peoria - Beliveau
  7. I'll probably regret asking, but what's he saying? (game blacked-out where I am) He's talking about Harden coming back and Marshall being moved to the bullpen as if it's a given. I really, really hope that is not going to happen.
  8. Shut up about Sean Marshall, Tim. Just shut up.
  9. I think David Patton can now be found on the backs of milk cartons.
  10. Wait a second, someone actually invented the automatic hammer?
  11. Might as well let David Patton go out onto the mound the rest of the way to see if he'll crap his pants or not.
  12. Except for his last start, where he went 4... Whoopsie, misread his stat line. In any case, 10 starts of 6 IP or more this season is pretty darn good.
  13. 10 straight starts for Dempster where he's gone 6 IP or more. Well done, Demp! =D>
  14. *Shrug* You're the guy who has hot women in his avatars. How can I hate you? :D
  15. I should have been clearer, in that case. My bad. Can we move on now?
  16. Yes, yes, I know. However, no one's come out yet alleging they saw Sosa use. No credit card receipts or prescription records have come out regarding steroid use. We have much stronger evidence linking Bonds & McGwire to steroids than we do with Sosa. He probably used, but frankly, I don't give a crap if he did.
  17. Larry King: If you've just joined us, we're with Tracy Jordan, who is giving guitar icon Peter Frampton enigmatic clues about a secret treasure. Stay with us.
  18. Honestly, I think the high moral standard comes from obnoxious sportswriters and politicians with nothing better to do more than from the fans. With McGwire and Bonds, it was blatantly obvious they were using PEDs. Yet, their fans loved them and to this day still defend those guys. Go Milton go! You got your facts a little screwed up there man... Giants fans ignored the facts about Bonds, Us Card fans did'nt find out Mac was juicing until he had retired. Now that I know about it I hate his red headed guts, as do MANY St. Louisans. Why did'nt you mention Sosa? Maybe because nothing has come out on him yet? Pretty much that. I'll happily throw his name onto the pile of suspected guys, but I was going for guys who'd been confirmed abusers. Cubs fans still haven't found out if Sosa was juicing. My point was more along the lines of the "high moral standard" thing than anything else. I really don't think fans care all that much if players on their teams were abusing.
  19. Yeah, but with the lead they have in that division, you sure expect more when you see them play over 3-4 days. The only teams over .500 they've played before the Cubs series: SF Giants (1 game over), LA Angels (1 game over), NY Mets (6 games over), and Philadelphia (6 games over). Give them credit for going 5-1 against Philly and the Mets, but still, they really have not played any strong teams so far. They're good, but not nearly as good as their record shows.
  20. Like I said during our losing streak, they've been feasting on the NL West in the early going without playing any halfway decent teams. They were a great candidate to help the Cubs get over their losing streak at home (along with the PIrates).
  21. Frankly, with a 6-0 lead, I'd PH for Dempster here. Might as well make them pay for that.
  22. Come on Joe, talk about how great Aaron Miles is. You know you want to do it.
