  1. [-( I refuse to believe the Cubs would target such a player. He can play patty-cake with Tyler Colvin in AAA in between horrific plate appearances. :P
  2. BA put Starlin Castro at #9 on their Top 10 Arizona Fall League prospects list. Considering he's keeping company on this list with guys like Strasberg, Posey, Ackley, and Freeman, that's a very good thing for him. Link (Subscribers only)
  3. There's always the option of waiting on Bradley and dealing him before the deadline next season. He could put up good enough numbers and be far enough through his contract that a team in contention would be happy to take him in exchange for better players than what they'd trade now.
  4. Agreed. I guess when John Amaechi came out, it wasnt as interesting as if it had been Michael Jordan or Patrick Ewing. It was almost as interesting as Bill Simmons outing Wilt Chamberlain on the Colbert Report because Wilt never married and owned cats.
  5. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=tsn-tigerscubscontinueto&prov=tsn&type=lgns Would you give up Cashner/Vitters/spare part(s) for Granderson? I'd consider giving up one or the other with a low level prospect or two for Granderson. I'd think about giving up both for Granderson and Edwin Jackson, although I'm not a huge fan of Jackson.
  6. From Ask BA this week:
  7. I imagine it started from something like this... *Bears President and CEO Ted Phillips watches MNF with various staff members* Phillips: God, I can't believe ESPN signed Gruden to an extension. He shouldn't be working for them; he's so awful. *Staff member casually chats with media contact over lunch the next day* Staff Member: Yeah, Phillips can't believe Gruden's still working for ESPN and signed an extension. Media Contact: OH MY GOD HE'S LOOKING TO REPLACE JERRY ANGELO AND IS EVALUATING POTENTIAL REPLACEMENTS!
  8. So, the Bears basically have two options when it comes to QBs... 1) Guys with good arms, but who have a tendency to throw crippling interceptions and periodically make bad decisions 2) Guys with noodle arms who are relatively smart, but can't advance the team down the field to save their lives This is becoming a disturbing trend.
  9. They do sign bigger names than the Cubs down there. The Cubs own South Korea, though. I think Escobar is overrated but he's definitely a top 40 guy. Wow, Gamel is still a rookie by 2 at bats, I didn't know that. Escobar and Gamel isn't a solid top 2 - reminiscent of Castro and Vitters in fact. Jeffress is too high to do anything. I do like Arnett. Lawrie has good potential. As does Scarpetta. After that, well, I can't say there's a whole lot.
  10. Yes. He wasn't all that great last season, posting bad BB numbers and mediocre HR numbers in AA. He could stick in low-end team's bullpen, but there will be better options out there.
  11. Callis spoke favorably about him in BA's Cubs prospects chat. I think he could be a workable 4th or 5th OF type.
  12. They are still negotating the no trade clause. Don't joke about those kinds of things! :(
  13. I'm happy to have Heilman off the team; anything extra we get out of it is a bonus.
  14. And that's where McNabb excels at the bounce pass! We got this one.
  15. So, who's ready for Marshall to be traded for pennies on the dollar thanks to this move?
  16. Brett Jackson can't be traded until the summer. Draftees cannot be traded away until a year after they originally sign.
  17. I miss fish fries. :(
  18. I think toonsterwu gave the best reasoning on this in our chat. Basically, Rhee's ranking was comparable to a draft pick/ceiling nod. When healthy, Rhee has phenomenal stuff and the right mindset/grasp for being a top-flight pitcher. He's shown flashes of that in his rehab. If he starts next season at 100%, he'd be a Top 5 prospect in this system. Whether he reaches that remains to be seen. I'm down a bit too much on LeMahieu and Watkins power-wise to rank them much higher than where I've had them.
  19. Part 2 and the rankings have been posted on the front page of NSBB, with links in the first post of this thread. Comments and questions welcome. :D
  20. I'd like to point out that Part 2 was non-exhaustive and not necessarily in order. There were a few prospects whose names slipped through for various reasons (Blake Parker, Tony Thomas, Brandon Guyer, etc) who were good, but did not make the final cut for various reasons. I'd like to emphasize this was not a slight against them in any way. We just couldn't cover everyone in detail with the time we had.
