    Which I don't get how they can be anyone's dark horse. Aaron Harrang is their opening day starter. They also have some lefty in AA who was mediocre in the Cuban league last year. I fully expect Mike Leake to require labrum surgery by the end of the season.

    I wouldn't be surprised if we see Rhee piggybacking with someone down in Daytona. When he pitched last season, his outings were incredibly brief. He might even be in the bullpen to start the season in Daytona.

    That's pretty much my feeling. I think Fukudome helps this team quite a bit with his OBP and defense. They're not ideal for a RF, but I think there's a steep drop off from Fukudome to Colvin/Nady/Hoffpauir as things stand right now. Even if Colvin manages to become a better hitter than Fukudome OPS-wise, his arm and his range are decided downgrades from Fukudome in RF. I don't think the tradeoff would be worth it right now. Moreover, even if Brett Jackson is banging down the door, there might be a better argument for trading Byrd than trading Fukudome come next offseason. Jackson could be a plus defender in CF, which would mean trading Fukudome and shifting Byrd to RF or just trading Byrd.

    It's actually pretty good. He does a fairly reasonable job of explaining certain stats plus he gives shoutouts to places like Fan Graphs and Baseball Prospectus.

    I think Packers-Vikings increased as a rivalry this past year because of Brett Favre, but on the whole Bears-Packers is the biggest rivalry in the NFC North and it isn't even close. Honestly I think only Bears fans think that. I doubt you'd find many Packers fans who'd agree, and I'd say that goes back before Favre jumped ship. Yep. The Packers fans I knew at UW-Madison unanimously thought their main rival was the Vikings. Considering the Packers beat the Bears like a drum throughout a good chunk of the 90s and 00s, and also considering the Vikings were much more competitive against the Packers over that stretch, a lot of Packers fans don't see the Bears as being on nearly the same level as the Vikings.

    That's pretty much expected with a bullpen composed of pitchers without major league experience. However, that may not be a bad thing for the future. If everyone stinks, the Cubs know they'll need to be active next offseason. If one or two guys emerge, that should give the bullpen some stability and also keep Lou from using Marmol way too freaking much.

    I can't wait for the inevitable article when the Cubs are 6 games out of first place in the summer, detailing how the Cubs would have been a competitor if only they had Kevin Millar on the roster. Odds are, Phil Rogers will be the one to write it.

    Considering their double OT game with Xavier, it's pretty damn impressive K-State was even in this one.
