  1. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of issues in play here that could tank an Indiana deal, but the Idiot Ball is being passed around at a rapid clip, and I don't think it's a safe assumption the Bears stay with AH.
  2. The problem the Bears have is they've already horsefeathers the bed with Pritzker and a good chunk of the General Assembly for the reasons @mul21 mentioned. The grumbling come out of this last session was less "screw the Bears!" and more "how does a Bears deal benefit Peoria, or Rockford, or Carbondale?" The Chicago contingent of the general assembly was fully on board for *something* (especially since they were under the impression the Bears could stay in Chicago), but the PILOT bill was only going to benefit mega-projects in and around Chicago, the Bears relied on lobbyists in Springfield without actually going down to stump and court votes, and no one had a backup bill ready if the PILOT bill failed. I'm unsure how this ultimately plays out, though, because the Bears have Indiana over a barrel at the moment. Firing Warren would show they mean business about Illinois, yes, but if Illinois' best bill falls short of what Indiana is offering, would the Bears stay regardless? I'm unsure about that.
  3. He hasn't even taken an AB as a professional yet, and it's been nearly a year since the Cubs popped him. Don't get me wrong, the guy has value and he could skyrocket to the top of the Cubs' prospect list by returning to full health and kicking butt in SB before the end of the season, but nebulous back injuries are usually enough for teams to back off in trade talks.
  4. This is the correct answer. The concerning thing, though, is we haven't heard any reports from AZ about Conrad participating in workouts or otherwise being on the field. I'd be less worried if we'd heard from AZ Phil how he was spotted playing catch or taking practice swings in the last few weeks, but it's been radio silence.
  5. I fully expect another random 10 game winning streak that makes them buyers at the deadline, only to collapse in September because the pitching staff contracted ebola.
  6. I'd rather see him keep it up in Low A since he's been subject to pretty severe ups and downs, and then move him up post-draft. Let's see if this heater is legit and let him build confidence.
  7. Or maybe he loafed it on what should have been an easy double?
  8. I'm sure they're losing $144m a year for tax purposes only.
  9. For all we know, they never had any value.
  10. I'm surprised the downstate GOP isn't crowing more about killing the PILOT bill as a multi-billion dollar giveaway to DEI woke public housing developers.
  11. Maybe we can get something good for Carson Kelly since he's now established himself as the Cubs' best two-way player?
  12. If the Yankees can put up a 13 run inning, sure, why not the Cubs?
  13. We can argue about intangibles and motivation until the cows come home, but the bottom line is this team currently sucks and it can't continue in its current form.
  14. You don't need redasses, you just need guys who can stay healthy and produce. I don't think Kris Bryant won an MVP because John Lackey was a dick to everyone in the clubhouse, ya know? At this point, though, something needs to happen, be it a crazy trade or a bloodletting, because this team is sleepwalking.
  15. I feel like I'm watching a dude continue to pour gasoline on himself after setting himself on fire.
  16. I mean, what else is there that can be done? The rotation is a jumbled mess of injuries and trash, the offense is inconsistent, and the pen sucks any time the rotation and offense actually do well.
  17. The Royals' trio of Michael Wacha (signed through '27), Kris Bubic (FA after this season), and Seth Lugo (signed through '27) should be available. Sandy Alcantara should also be on the market, although his season has been kinda eh. Freddy Peralta might also be available, but that depends on how delusional the Mets are. In terms of who to give up, I don't think anyone on the Cubs or in their system is strictly off limits, but, putting prospects and young controllable guys into tiers, for Tier 1 I'd hope they do their damndest to hold onto Horton, Shaw, Ballesteros, Hartshorn, and Wing (in that order); for Tier 2 I'd want them to hold out on trading Pedro Ramirez, Jaxson Wiggins, and Jefferson Rojas (in that order) unless it's in a deal for a multi-year guy or Skubal; and for Tier 3, I'd be generally okay with any other prospect getting traded assuming fair value in the deal.
  18. The toxic tort litigation involving this stadium is going to be phenomenal.
  19. Shohei Ohtani would definitely solve this team's offense and pitching issues... But seriously, with Skubal and Detmers already mentioned, SP Casey Mize would be my third. The injury risk is there, but he's a FA after this season and it looked like he turned the corner before going on the IL a week ago. The asking price should also be reasonable compared to some of the other guys on the market.
  20. It's also worth remembering that Gardner, Kwan, and Nico are the outliers when it comes to potential outcomes for someone like Kepley. It's not to say that there's no way Kepley could ever meet (or even exceed) their production, but it's more to say that guys with his current profile tend not to do well in the modern era. His offensive production has also had the benefit of A-ball pitching and defense to this point. As I mentioned previously, I think a promotion to AA would help answer a lot of these questions, and how much power he actually has will dictate whether he profiles as a useful bench asset or as an everyday CF.
