    Trade imminent, this player for that player, drawn out for weeks, never happens, etc. And all of that. I just don't want a repeat of the Dempster saga last year, where the Cubs had a really good return ready to go, but that fell apart and the Cubs ended up with a lesser (albeit still good) return.

    also that he goes completely overboard bashing an umpire for a bad call that goes against the white sox, but is practically effusive with praise when the bad call favors them. YOU'RE DAGGUM RIGHT WE'RE PLAYING THIS GAME UNDER PROTEST!

    If it comes down to signing one guy who'll immediately be a Top 3 prospect in our system or signing two guys who might crack our Top 30, the choice is obvious. I'd love to have both, but give me Bryant any day.

    I'm honing in on Brett Mooneyham or Nate Karns if the Cubs just got a pitcher. If IFA pool money is in play, someone like Aaron Barrett or Paul Demny could be intriguing.

    Hairston was useful off the bench, but if the Cubs get anything more than a decent minor league reliever or a low level roll of the dice, I'll be surprised.
