  1. Bryant and Contreras just look completely lost at the plate right now.
  2. Sure seems like Watson was getting pitches that low and also 3 inches outside.
  3. Please no Jon Jay tonight in the starting lineup.
  4. It really blows that the only run this game is a result of a blown call and an error.
  5. Me too. So much is said about Theo (and rightfully so!!). But this is the man that got the man that got these great players. I propose a giant gold statue of his likeness be erected in grant park! Kinda like this. Wow... Chairman Mao in a giant chair. Were they just trying to get a point across?
  6. Rick Porcello had a 4.65 ERA this year, backed up by a 4.60 FIP, but he stole a Cy Young last year, so throw him at 16th. Masahiro Tanaka had a 4.74 ERA (4.34 FIP), and just watched Luis Severino start their one game, must win playoff, but he's their best pitcher at 14th. Jake is 6th, which....is bold. Bold is one word for it.
  7. Anyone else perturbed by the ESPN rankings calling Kyle the 19th best SP in the playoffs? I think that is ludicrous.
  8. Well, that was a disappointing sequence of events last night, in my opinion. I don't hate Trubisky, but I guess I didn't think he was worth the 2nd overall pick (much less spending 2 3rds and a 4th to boot). Today, I hope they trade back with the 36 to get a later 2nd and a 3rd. Cooper Kupp is probably one of my favorite players in this draft. After seeing him play the past 4 years, his ball skills are second to none. At the FCS level in the past 15 years, the only WR I have seen as good as him would be Vincent Jackson (and he was technically D2 at the time). Awuzie would be a good guy to develop into a starting CB over the next year or so. I guess we shall see what happens, but this draft so far has been underwhelming to me.
  9. Last year's team was 8-1 after 9 games so they're clearly slacking off this year. Of course, they also played the Angels, DBacks and Reds those first 9 games so that might have had something to do with it. The Angels, Dbacks and Reds have 3 of the best records in baseball this year. Only because they don't have to play the Cubs to start the year 8-)
  10. Going with the Happy GIlmore approach. The old Hal Morris?
  11. Schilling just tweeted back at me to say that he doesn't "need" the writers' votes. I just said it was stupid for him to RT the lynching journalists t-shirt pic. Fun.
  12. I guess I am not sure what you are referring to here. With Arrieta and Davis most likely receiving the QO next year, the Cubs would be gaining 2 compensatory picks. It would not surprise me if they offer Lackey the QO as well which would result in the lower-tiered compensatory pick. Are you assuming they will sign a FA who has a pick attached next offseason? Yeah, I expect us to sign one and what we'll receive back is a lower pick. Ok. Just wanted to clarify. I know that next year's class is light-years better than this year's FA class. Depending upon how Davis performs this year though, the Cubs may offer him the QO and then sign him themselves because they won't have to give up a pick to do it.

  14. Even if no extension comes to fruition, I still see the Cubs extending the Qualifying Offer to Arrieta, Lackey, and Davis after the season. Arrieta and Davis should both sign for more than $50M and Lackey would possibly accept the offer depending upon how this year goes.
  15. Haha, I thought that was Stanley Tucci for a second. Good news is that once they make a movie about the Cardinals, Tucci has an almost guaranteed part.
  16. Although he also is an injury guy, I like Tim's idea of getting Holland. Let's put together the original Bullpen Of Doom. Randy Myers, Norm Charlton, and Rob Dibble? That was the best threesome (in baseball bullpen-speak) I have ever seen.
