    Are you sure about that ?They may be taking different routes,but their ending up at the same place. Throw Millen out. He isn't allowed to spend more money than his opponents. Thus, you don't know how bad he really is. That said Isaiah took a bad team and kept them there. Jimbo took a team on the brisk of being pretty good and turned them into crap. He got lemonade and then urinated in it. :lol: I like that. You are right.

    yeah that's the point... stop developing scrubs (note the common thread with those guys - horrible plate discipline) and actually get a minor league system that contributes talent onto the major league squad. Look at the team that's playing tonight, most of the players came from within or in trades for talent they developed (Beckett, Pierre) It all begins with the GM. He loves "toolsy" players and his scouts love "toolsy" players. How a guy like Theriot is on the team is by pure accident. Theriot was an accident.They moved him from short because of Luis Montanez.They moved him a level above Montanez,and made him a switch hitter. I meant he's an accident because with his good plate discipline and not being "toolsy", somehow he still made the team.

I hate giving Hendry any credit, but at least he's been able to fool some people into thinking this team can win the division (even before the season). I can tell you now that no one will pick the Lions or the Knicks to win their divisions.

    The common thread is Jim Hendry, the worst GM in the history of professional sports. I feel your frustration, but he's not worst than Matt Millen or Isaiah Thomas. Man, I wonder what the Cubs would be like had they not forced Dallas Green out (yes, my surname).

    Fire sale. And I mean complete fire sale. We've got to get this noose off our collective neck. We can't do that. We passed out NTCs. Eyre, Soriano, Marquis, Lilly... they might as well have NTCs, nobody is going to take on those contracts. From this point forward, the Cubs have to start developing some players from within and stop impulsively spending money to fill holes. Uh, you mean like Patterson, Dubois, Kelton, Harvey, etc.? We simply have bad people making poor personnel decisions who have no real clue how to develop a farm system and how to properly fill holes with right players. Why some people were okay with firing Baker and keeping Hendry is beyond me.

    so have jorge posada and mike piazza Thanks, I was waiting for someone to bring that up. Posada's and Piazza's teams had a lot more chance of making the postseason without them than the Cubs have with Barrett. Even though those two aren't /weren't the smartest or best defensive catchers, their numbers were better than Barrett's to justify their bad defense and poor plays. Can't say the same for Barrett.

    At this point this isnt on Lou. Believe me Lou is to blame for some things, but the baserunning isnt one of them. These guys are making little league mistakes. I just think we have a team of dumbasses. If he gets the credit when they win... Huh? these guys are pros they should know by know when u are on 2nd base and a ball is hit in front of you you dont advance. If Lou or any manager in the game was to try continually going over this, the players wouldnt be paying a bit of attention. They would all be thinking "we know this dumbass come on we are pros". How about benching them?Other than Lee or Aram,the replacement players production wouldn't be much different,possibly even better. Benching who though? Off the top of my head, murton, jones, barret, theriot, derosa, lee, soriano have all made bad base running mistakes. You calling up AAA to play? What message does his non-action send?Stupid baseball like this made Dusty an analyst. No there was plenty more that made Dusty an analyst. The players should know better plain and simple. Lou cant run the bases for them. We dont know that Lou isnt saying anything to them in the clubhouse. Look, that's what you get when you prefer "toolsy" players. "Toolsy" players rely on their tools vs. being smart and playing with heart.

    Honestly, how many times a year do you hear or hear anyone say, "That was a smart play by Barrett," or "Smart at-bat by Barrett". I know there are lots of people on the board who love him just because offensively he's been one of the better catchers in the NL. But partly because from an offensive standpoint the catcher's position isn't what it was fifteen or twenty years ago, and, think about it, catchers like Ausmus, Pagnozzi, Matheny and Molina have played in more postseason games than Barrett has. Give me a smart catcher and I'll gladly give up offense and find it at another position on the team.

    Marquis has only thrown 74 pitches through six. In the past he'd be at 80 in the fourth inning.

    There was the time where being aggressive at the plate would've been a good thing. He gave Lee and Ramirez one chance to hit a straight fastball and they took it and both went chasing after sliders.

Jim Edmonds was a badass CFer. The problem is the number of doubles he gave up because he refused to just play at average depth in centerfield. I hate that he gets props for making catches that Andrew Jones or Griffey, Jr, or others make look simple. I especially hated some media in St. Louis (namely Frank Cusamano, and others) who have the audacity to say that he's the Cardinals best defensive CF in their history. Particularly since most of the media were alive to see Curt Flood and Willie McGee, who made spectacular Edmonds' catches look like cans of corn. But didn't Flood cost the Cardinals the 68' World Series by misplaying a fly ball? That's correct. But does that particular error mean he wasn't a good defensive CF?

    You'd figure Murton would be better either in his baserunning or his fielding since last season. Thus far, I've seen neither.

    Angel Pagan is the 2nd coming of Carlos Beltran. Just go to the board at cubs.com. They'll tell ya. And that's why I haven't been on the cubs.com board since 2002.

    I agree with Hendry's philosophy. It's more important to get toolsy players than players who know how to play the game smart and with heart.
