Honestly, I don't care if we get in or not. This is the first team I've actually disliked and I've been following Illinois basketball since 1979. Based off of teams in the past with resumes like Illinois, the committee has let them in but usually gives them a 10-12 seed. Regardless, we are a one and done team. My expectations of Illinois basketball is much, much higher than that. It still blows my mind after blowing huge leads at Arizona and Michigan State, they still found a way to blow a late lead at Indiana knowing that win would've likely cinched an NCAA berth.

I sure hope we win our last two games then at least one in the Big Ten tourney Man, it's been a long time since we've entered the big dance as a #11 or lower seed, but if we lose two of the next three (one of the last two and the first B10 tourney game) we may be lucky to get that.

Our cable company (COX) added ESPNU to the sports package in late November because they were scheduled to cover two Kansas and a couple of Kansas State basketball games. ESPNU is not bad. If you're expecting the caliber of ESPN or ESPN2 you're going to be disappointed. But if you like college athletics, no matter the level, then you'll like it.

Too bad I'm not in Vegas. I would've bet a ton on Mississippi St. tonight. I knew Vandy would still be hung over after the Florida win.

Must game tonight in Champaign between Michigan and Illinois if either wants into the big dance. By the way, this is the first senior night at Illinois where I'm not the least bit sad. I'll be glad to see Warren Carter and Richard McBride gone. Oh yeah, Marcus Arnold, too. And if you're asking, "Who?" That's my point.

Before today's game, I thought we would get in if we only lost one more game prior to the Big Ten tourney. I think we need to win the rest of the games and at least one in the Big Ten tourney. The problem is we have no real big road wins. It would've been huge had we beaten Xavier, Purdue, MSU or IU on the road. The loss at Michigan really hurts. At this point, Iowa is a must win.

Are Weber's assistants doing nothing regarding recruiting? I hope they all have learned from the Gordon experience to not lay all your eggs in one basket.

Henson didn't lose a lot of Chicago kids until the whole Deon Thomas fiasco. Kruger came in during the time after Henson when Chicago coaches were "protesting" Jimmy Collins not getting the job and weren't selling Illinois to their players. And, remember, if Self stayed at Illinois Julian Wright and Sherron Collins are playing for the orange and blue. that's hard to say. I don't understand because Wright verbally committed to Illinois and then when Self left he chose KU. Collins' last two choices came down to UI and KU. My guess is that Self sold him more than Weber did.

And there lies the big problem. Warren Carter is our best player. Going back two years ago, no way, no way I would've thought that would ever be the case. Even though he passed the ball to an open McBride, I would've loved to see him take the ball to the hole. For crying out loud, he caught the ball in the lane against two shorter guys. I guess that goes to Weber's love of the perimeter game. Then quit whiffing on Sherron Collins, Eric Gordon, Julian Wright, Patrick Beverley, Brandon Rush's of the world. Bruce has brought a lot of this on himself. i always thought that the campus and town were the reasons that weber couldn't recruit. heck, self could barely get anyone to come to champaign, but after zook snowed a bunch of 4 and 5 star guys to come to town, i'm starting to think the hog farms and lack of anything to do aren't the problem. I disagree with that. Self, Krueger and before that Henson all recruited well. The difference is Weber hasn't been able to get the top in-state kids like the previous coaches.

Yes, you can rely on big men to win it down the stretch. That is, if you have big men who play like big men. Pruitt should've never had the ball in that final sequence. That's my point --- we don't have a big man who knows how to play like a big man.

Yeah, I hate that, too. But in fairness the play was set, but McBride just missed the three. We just aren't that talented a team, particularly when Randle is only 75% healthy.

I miss the first 38 minutes of the IU/UI game because the local station here showed the UCLA/WVU game. Seems as if Illinois played some of their best basketball for 39 minutes and then, predictably, chokes at the end. I wonder why it's been so hard for us to get a true big man. It's too bad Carter is not that good because if he was he would've had enough confidence to take the ball to the hole instead of dishing it from the lane to McBride. McBride had an open look but just missed it. In fact, McBride had two open looks and missed them.

I was surprised at how poorly NU shot the ball at times tonight. Nice to see the old Richard McBride back (still can't stand him). I hope he remembers how to shoot in the "other" Assembly Hall this Saturday.

I really hope you are right. I guess you have more confidence than me. I really wish someone, anybody would tell Brian Randle that night in night out he's the best athlete on the floor. For the most part, our guard play has sucked. And injuries have no part in the number of turnovers we have and our poor free-throw shooting. I'm glad Izzo didn't start fouling with 2 minutes left on Tuesday or we might have lost that game. I don't see how we win in Bloomington or Iowa City, though. Um why don't you try having your growing cut into then come back early. Then get the Pujols thing on your feet. Then I am gonna tell you to be athletic. He is hurt what do you expect from a guy who is hurt? He is giving us more than Wood or Prior have in their quarter seasons. Oh we beat them by scoring more than them. You're right about Randle, but I was saying this about him last year. He likely is only playing at 70% health, at best. It's been hard for us to win in Iowa City and Bloomington with some of our good teams. I don't see this team winning in either place... again, I hope I'm wrong. We have won 2 of the last 3 at both. It could happen. I think we get one of them. Just out of curiosity, I don't think the injuries we currently have will heal up significantly over the next two-three weeks, so why do you think we can win at Iowa or Indiana but couldn't win at Ann Arbor, at Xavier or at MSU?

See, that's why I hate games like this. Everybody has already forgotten that Simeon beat #1 Oak Hill. Plus, Loyola shouldn't be the #2 team in Illinois. Plus, I don't think it's a 40 point game on a neutral court. Maybe a 25 point game instead? I think Simeon would give them all they want. Actually, I think three or four other Illinois high school teams would've been more competitive than Loyola.

The reality is that most schools are so similar that top players like this really sign with a coach instead of a school. You're right though-Gordon and his dad had the responsibility of informing Weber. They were the ones who made the verbal committment, and they were the ones who re-opened the commitment. That was a mistake-the sad part is to see the fanatics in the UI fanbase make a mistake as well by doing things like threatening Gordon. No side is completely clean on this one unfortunately. In this case, if he truly signed with the coach then why didn't he commit to OU while Sampson was there? Or even have OU on his top list? It's just my belief that Sampson or someone from his staff contacted Gordon after his verbal. From my understanding it's an unwritten rule to not contact players after they have made a verbal commitment.

Again reverse the situations, (following ILLINOIS BEATING INDIANA)"unless Indiana starts putting it together, I think they lose at Iowa, Purdue, Michigan, and MSU" You'd laugh your ass off and probably come up with some new Eric Gordon factoid. To consider a team's true talent level based one game is ridiculous, especially when you just saw them play a better game 4 days earlier against your own [expletive] team. Why are you getting so pissy over my prediction that U of I will lose 3 more games? Watch them play. It is very possible. And again, you didn't say it was possible. Possible means it's not impossible for it to happen. Your predicting means you deem it likely, which is absurd. I actually believe we will lost three more games. What from this garbage team makes you believe they will finally rise up and not play at least one more stinker game? I think IU and Iowa are road losses, but I think we have one more stinker coming, too. It's my prediction that we'll have to go 5-2 and then win at least one conference tourney game to have a hope for an NCAA invite. And then we'd probably be an 8-9 seed, at best.

I have no problem with Gordon changing his mind, but he and his father should've notified the coach you gave a verbal commitment to that you are opening up recruitment. My suspicion is that they knew what they were doing wasn't proper etiquette and just decided to say nothing. But it does beg the question, do recruits sign with the school or with the coach?
