  1. If you're a college pitcher facing those guys, I'm guessing you'd be more than a tad worried. Yes, it's hyperbole. But, no, actually, I wouldn't be worried. There are other middle of the order lineups that would concern me more.
  2. And Ive never understood the point, especially when its some God awful team like the Pirates or the Royals. When your paying a guy no matter what, theres no point in replacing him unless the replacement is someone who could be the manager past the remainder of the season. I don't think this team is Pirates/Royals bad, on paper they could easily compete in this division. Maybe all they need is a spark/shakeup. If the Cubs finish 5th in the division they might as well finish sixth. Then you should include them in the Pirates/Royals conversation. Did you really feel comfortable with the 5-3 lead? It seems every loss someone new makes a bad defensive or offensive mental mistake. This team is not good. Name one area of the game where you can rank them "very good". Offense, defense, pitching ... they aren't very good. Even if I'm a college pitcher, the batting order including Ramirez, Pena and Soriano wouldn't scare me at all.
  3. I don't know if you checked it out but the Springfield State Journal Register has an interesting article on Mike Davis and how he attributes his recent success to working with a mental coach. I am still trying to find one person (other than Weber) who can justify Bill Cole starting. Senior night in West Lafayette. Could be ugly on Tuesday.
  4. I said it after the Indiana game, treat the rest of the season like non-contending baseball teams treat September -- play the kids. You don't have to play Head and Griffey 20 minutes, but you might as well give them some experience for next year. I think regardless what tournament we're in it's likely one and done.
  5. Think McCamey gets the start on Wednesday?
  6. I believe that is three times McCamey has tried to take it against Johnson and has been blocked all three times.
  7. Dumb foul by Paul that's where you want them catching it.
  8. Remember how good a lot of us thought McCamey, Tis and Davis would be two years ago? Imagine if Tisdale ended up as good as Leuer, McCamey as good as Battle or Jordan and Davis was as good as Johnson?
  9. Why is that?
  10. I don't know what we have against getting points from the free throw line. I will never understand why this team can't cut to the basket or drive to the basket to draw fouls. We can't rebound so 3's should be out of the question and get points with the clock stopped. But silly of me to think this team will figure this out with seven games left whey they haven't done it the last 24 games.
  11. I don't know why you think Weber will be fired no matter what the end of the season record is. Just as he is stupidly loyal to his seniors, Guenther is stupidly loyal to Zook and Weber. Best case is Guenther makes him hire new assistants. I would hope that Weber might resign but he would be giving up too much money.
  12. When you can't shoot, you can't rebound and you turn the ball over it's hard to win. Also, it's pretty obvious that when McCamey and Richmond don't play well we need like four or five other guys playing well.
  13. I guess McCamey is trying his best not to be drafted by the NBA.
  14. If I didn't know better I'd say DJ Byrd is Lucas Johnson's son.
  15. I usually like Verne and Clark, but they don't seem to be in this game. Also, why does Jim Nantz not do basketball until the Big Ten tourney and then gets to call tourney and championship game?
  16. They're probably biased against Purdue in your game too Can't blame the refs on turnovers and lack of rebounding, though.
  17. Okay, I guess Brandon doesn't know how to switch on picks.
  18. Okay, there was an example of McCamey slowing the team down and not Weber. He should've driven it straight to the hoop. I am now thinking our hot shooting earlier in the season was an anomaly. As I said on Thursday, if we turn the ball over today like we did against Minnesota we might lose the game. I just didn't think we'd shoot and rebound this poorly.
  19. I just don't want Paul peaking his sophomore year like most of our current seniors did.
  20. I agree with you that we should be an elite program like in the 80's and early 2000s, but I don't know where you are getting your impression that fans think we mirror a third tier program.
  21. Weber might finally be on to something by not giving a lot of minutes to Leonard and Tisdale against athletic bigs.
  22. I remember the good old days when college b-ball broadcasts were only 2 hrs long. Thanks for all the commercials.
  23. How many games this year have we attacked the basket? That's been my main criticism of this team. BTW, nice to see we've learned to protect the basketball as we seem to be on our way to another double digit turnover game.
  24. Shouldn't we (Illinois fans) be rooting for OSU on Saturday? I think we can get in the dance even with a 9-9 record as long as we finish 4th place or higher. I don't want OSU to go undefeated but no one's going to catch them even if they lose on Saturday.
