  1. How much is Vogelbach going to play here with Rizzo at 1st? My understanding is he's a 1st baseman only. If power hitting is the new currency and lefthanded power hitters especially, Vogelbach could be worth something back.
  2. Theo and Jed are going to let him come up and prove himself at least for a couple years before even thinking about any new contract. Here's just a partial list of 'can't miss prospects' that never made it big. How foolish it would have been to have a multi-year contract hanging around their necks. Delmon Young, Brandon Wood, Brien Taylor, Sean Burroughs, Dallas McPherson, Lastings Milledge, Andy Marte, Drew Henson, Ben Grieve and of course our Corey Patterson, Felix Pie, Ryan Harvey..etc..
  3. Masterson will be experimenting with working out of the stretch all day. He really struggled with his delivery this year...too many moving parts going in many directions. This is probably his last chance to establish himself as a SP or it's the bullpen. Rooting for Doubront to do well. We need LH starters to begin to stay here.
  4. Scherzer rejected 6/$144M offer from the Tigers earlier this year. That's $24M per. YIKES!!! Lester and Scherzer are pipedreams.
  5. Len says Starlin has "terrible habit". Do you "take the good with the bad"? He "needs to set a better example". With Castro, Baez and Addison Russell coming---"Somebody will have to be moved".
  6. And when are they expected to be in place? Well, signage will be in place next year. Who knows how much of that would go to it, though... He sounded really high on the TV deal but I got in late so I don't know if he was just talking about the 2019 one or if he was addressing the 2015+ slate as well. He came across as 2015 could still be a rebuilding year. Players will be coming up and still will not overpay for older pitching.
  7. Top of the rotation? Arrieta and mentioned Neil Rameriz as possible guys already here. Schwarber-Provides balance with LH power. Has good plate discipline and can work the count. Sounds like they want him to catch and learn alot in AZ League. Theo sounded really pumped about him.
  8. Theo will be on The Score @ 10:40AM and Len Kasper @ 11:00AM. Wonder if Starlin will be brought up?
  9. With the higher salary comes a higher responsibility. With the kids coming up, which veterans are they going to migrate to? Some place holder that won't be here in a year or Castro and Rizzo? How many managers have talked with him to clean his act up. How many people have called him out? I hope he's renting and not buying here. As far as Kaplan, he is a jerk. He is such a windsock. Remember the Cubs trading Todd Walker for Jose Ceda. Kaplan just raved at what a great pitcher he was and Jim Hendry..blah..blah..blah. Ceda didn't make it. I just hope the Cubs next tv deal says "anybody but Kaplan doing a Cubs tv show".
  10. A Bud Selig Museum and it's not in Milwaukee? The Commisioner's Office has been in Milwaukee for a few years as Bud prefers to stay home.
  11. Poor Starlin. This will all be addressed when Addison Russell is deemed ready to play SS for the big club. Starlin will be offered for a top of the rotation pitcher or an impressive package of almost ready minor leaguers. Other teams will overlook these mental lapses and failing to hustle episodes. They will look at an All-Star SS with pop. It will be a good deal for both teams.
  12. Iowa Cubs beat writer just on The Score: Soler is the most ML-ready player. Corner OFer only. Players really enjoy him. Bryant is ready to come up, nothing left to accomplish. He punishes the ball.
  13. You led a sheltered life. Try Fell's Point, Little Italy, Towson, Hunt Valley, Arbutus for starters. Everyone who goes to Baltimore goes to Fell's Point; the waterfront area is by far the city's biggest draw. The last three are unincorporated suburbs; that's like telling someone they need to go to Glen Ellyn to REALLY "get" Chicago. And your point is...what? Try the Candler Building or Lexington Market. Did you ever go to Haussner's? Talk to 'Homer' Bagli or Laura Charles? My point still stands.
  14. You led a sheltered life. Try Fell's Point, Little Italy, Towson, Hunt Valley, Arbutus for starters.
  15. The pronunciation of Baltimore by Baltimoreans? Baltimoreites? That whole mid-atlantic philly to Baltimore area has a terrible accent that is underplayed in American media. They're also called 'Baltimorons' by many people in Annapolis.
  16. One of the local newspapers always had a Sunday sports cartoon of Bob Irsay flying into town with liquor bottles hanging out of his pockets. When Irsay moved the team and the memorabilia to Indy, a group of Balmer business people wanted the team's treasures returned. They also wanted the Colts name back. Irsay said he'd sell it back for $10M. The deal died. The Colts had a bad stadium deal because Memorial Stadium was in a neighborhood with a number of churches nearby. A city ordinance prohibited Colts home games at noon, but rather 1PM. There goes the revenue for early national tv games, etc...
  17. Balmer is very provincial and has a terrible inferiority complex. If Chicago is the 2nd city, Balmer suffers in the region because it's not DC and not Philly. One person describes it as "it's where you dump your McDonald's trash coming back from a Redskins game'. They hate out of towners, especially Chicagoans, because Bob Irsay was from Chicago and it it tore the heart out of the city when he moved the Colts. They're still mad that 'The Sun' took 'Baltimore' off the masthead because research indicated Balmer was regarded as a small city. And O's fans wanted 'Baltimore' on the road jerseys, not just the 'Orioles'. The team refused.
  18. Probably something Orioles fans do It was started when the O's were playing in Memorial Stadium in Balmer. There was this cab driver named Wild Bill Hagy who used to sit in the upper deck down right field. He was a pretty rugged character and yelled stuff all game. He led them in 'O' during the anthem and then later on would try to spell out 'Orioles' using his arms and legs. The O's used to play 'Thank God I'm a Country Boy' by John Denver during the 7th inning stretch. Hagy would dance on the O's dugout and then do the 'Orioles' act. Hagy's gone and I don't know if they still do John Denver.
  19. Glad to see your clueless streak is in tact. Sheffield also claimed that Brewer management was racist by trying to move him to 3rd and letting Bill Spiers play SS. He quit on his teammates and accused the front office of racial prejudice. He was a cancer.
  20. Change of scenery? Isn't 9 teams and counting enough? He's no good.
  21. Actually the reason Sheffield didn't last with the Brewers because he was a cancer on the team. He purposely threw a ball away from SS and the Brewers lost the game. He was frustrated by the team losing but chose a chicken *hit way to show it. You can't allow a player to stay on your team if he pulls stuff like that. Much like Garry Templeton of the Cards flipping off the local fans and he was yanked into the dugout by Whitey Herzog and eventually dealt to the Padres for Ozzie Smith. There's no question that Sheffield was talented and had a quick bat, Brewers management had to deal him.
  22. I'm still on the Schwarber bandwagon for catcher. Imagine the possibilities of a lineup if he solves the catching hole. I know the team is trying to cut down on his games this year because with college and the minors he's played alot of games but he looks real good. The FO is really out in front of most teams by acquiring young power bats. Look at the teams that have little power and continue to struggle. This is just exciting to see the Cubs future. Now if Mike Olt can succeed(they've worked on his stance recently) in Iowa, this projects to be a dynamite lineup.
  23. While Bradley is an excellent CF, he is equally terrible at the plate. Friends in Boston tell me he hasn't learned to adjust to high fastballs. I think the Sox will probably try to deal him in the off season. I'd pass on him. We have Jr. Lake already.
  24. Len Kasper has talked about the Cubs needing to add a veteran player to teach and help some of the younger players what it takes to play the game and be a steady influence in the clubhouse. He admits that it doesn't have to be an everyday player because, quite frankly all the positions seem to be filled. But he's suggested a Reed Johnson-type, someone doesn't have to play every day but could be like a player/coach. I know others have talked about getting a vet. My choice is a veteran catcher who can be a leader on the field, but those guys don't seem to be available.
  25. Although I don't like the idea of placing a company's logo on a Cubs uniform, I wonder how long it will be before this happens. I'm not talking about a NASCAR concept with endless logos on a race car, but a patch on the front or on the sleeve. Soccer has been doing it for years and the NFL has looked at this in the past. As MLB teams are looking for new revenue streams, this would seem to be a potential next step. We've accepted ads on the outfield doors at Wrigley, where would you draw the line at?
