  1. We were kind enough not to accuse you of being a narrative junkie, the least you could do is reciprocate. Or prove that Castro is somehow never happy with his coaches/difficult to work with. Are you saying that you have never heard that Castro has complained about the batting coaches, managers and the FO? That this is news to you? I don't believe it. It's been going on for at least 3 years. He likes to go up there hacking. He has rebelled against the concept of taking pitches. It's been in all the daily Chicago papers and sports radio. But since you live on the West Coast, possibly it may have slipped by. That's understandable. Do a simple 'Google' search and there are numerous articles dating back to 2013. Here's is but one. “You’re not supposed to think [at the plate]” “Sometimes you have a tough season and you want to please everybody. But when you listen to everybody, it’s not right. You have to listen to the things that can help you, not everything.” http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/08/is-there-a-rift-between-starlin-castro-and-the-cubs/
  2. Short attention span theatre members checking in.
  3. Amazing what sitting on the bench and not participating with this fun team will do for your attitude. We all know Castro's complained about all the batting advice he's received from coaches, managers and FO. But it doesn't improve his baseball acumen and brain lapses. Any improvement increases his trade value in the off-season.
  4. Tough first season for Pace and Fox. They've been less than honest on a number of player issues. Lovie set a pretty low bar, I hope they're not trying to match that.
  5. pierce johnson seems surprising is he on the radar as a sept call up? First time for me too, David. Don't know if you break a young pitcher in during the playoffs, but Joe Maddon threw the book away a long time ago.
  6. Will be interesting to see how much playing time and what roles the Sept. call-ups are given.
  7. It's time to explore the playoff roster possibilities. Do we drop at least 1 pitcher(Hunter, Haren come to mind) due to a mysterious and unexpected injury on Oct. 5th and add a big bat off the bench(Baez)?
  8. New Bears Postgame Show Talking Heads on The Score: Hub Arkush, Big Cat Williams and Olin Kreutz taking over for the late Doug Buffone and OB. OB moved to WGN after Doug's passing. Big Shoes to fill. This was always the best radio. Sigh..Hub is still the smartest guy in the room(just ask him).
  9. Don't know if this has been answered elsewhere, but do the Cubs get any $$$ break on his contract or do we still have to pay him the full $$$ thru 2016?
  10. So I guess Soldier's Field would be inappropriate.
  11. Jeffries in boot. Top 2 receivers injured. 2 pretend games left as starters always skip the final game. Better be fast healers.
  12. I join the others who hope the PK isn't guilty of this and if he, is that he never plays for the Hawks. John McDonough is anal about the image of the Hawks and didn't waste anytime on making sure that Josh Mora and Susannah Collins of CSN were launched because they ran aground of his standards. But lawyers have said on the air that this is likely to drag on for awhile, possibly even years. Think of how long the Reggie Bush case took and so many sports related cases. Do the Hawks let him play(after all it's still an investigation), suspend him depending a conviction(the union would sue in a heartbeat) or cut/trade him? It's a mess. Richard Jewell is a perfect example of jumping to a conviction too fast.
  13. 27 years ago today. The night the lights went on at Wrigley. Harry, Steve and Bill Murray in the booth. Morganna the Kissing Bandit running on the field to kiss Ryno. The game is rained out and the next night is the official 1st night game. Vendors selling out of hastily made 8-9-88 shirts outside Wrigley. What a great time.
  14. With Maddon and Theo sending the clear message to Castro, isn't the next step to put him on waivers and let someone else pick up his salary? His trade value as #25 man on the roster is nil. Javy is about ready. You dump Castro, save some money.
  15. On August 3rd you wrote So you can sit here and fellate your own ego all you want, but you're just a fool who throws chicken little nonsense around all over the place, and when one of your several dozen lunatic ideas actually happens you act like you're King Swinging Dick of NSBB. So pump the brakes, guy. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. Or we can listen to inability to admit that you were wrong on this one. Coghlan didn't stink and the Cubs won. Now pull up your pants and wipe off your chin. The sky didn't fall.
  16. Dave Dombrowski out with Tigers. Details to follow.
  17. Belanger used to hold the AL record of being pinch hit for 333 times. As I remember his gloves were quite small, maybe even a youth size.
  18. That is... Way weird. Have you ever met his wife? She's pretty hot. Newt Gingrich married one of his teachers(+7 years older) one year after HS graduation.
  19. We need to stop bottom feeding and dumpster diving for a #5 starter. Go for a #1-3 starter(probably in the off-season) and push our current guys down the line. I wonder if we'll ever see Lake Mendy and Olt back up here? Do they still have value to us?
  20. Huh. That actually seems like the opposite of sad for me. 'Sad' because he was a great player and if not for his gambling would be in the Hall.
  21. David---Cooperstown is a very cool experience and probably the BEST of all the HOF. I was there for Ryno's induction and it was quite memorable. Sad Pete Rose hunkers down in a store and signs autographs. I hope that's the closest he gets to the Hall. I'm still waiting for Gil Hodges and Lee Smith to go in.
  22. You probably saw the video of Joe Maddon wearing a catcher's mask @ the pre-game presser before Friday's game. The story was that reporters were interviewing Jed Hoyer in the dugout and Bruce Levine took exception to George Ofman trying to ask a series of 'dumb questions' and not giving others a chance. Levine had enough and spoke up. Things got a 'little testy'..thus the mask by Joe. As usual the Kapman tried to insert himself into the story by tweeting out the wrong information. Rather be first than right.
  23. I would ask the WSox about David Robertson. Shut down closer which we need and the WSox don't(for at least 2 years). Robertson makes $11-12M per for the 3 years. WSox need position players. I'd offer Christian V.(he's blocked for 3rd) and Junior Lake and young catching prospect. Of course, I still want Jose Quintana as our #3.
  24. B's bad day turned into a week. Here's a video Stevie shot of Starlin. http://m.mlb.com/video/v29789743/stlchc-sveum-removes-castro-from-game-in-fifth Suck it birthers.
