    Seems to me that Aram has played great D since coming over. And his power numbers speak for themselves, no matter when he produced them. They used to say that without Dawson, the Cubs would've finished '87 in AAA. Take away Aram and Z and the Cubs would be hard pressed to be .500 in AA this season. Letting him go is just not an option.

    It would just be nice to see the team keep playing the way they have recently. While I am a delusional Cub fan (called so on this site) just dumb enough to believe that this team has a future, I don't think that future is now. Good play now makes me more excited for next year.

    I boycotted watching Glendon pitch about 2 months ago. When he starts, the Cubs lose. Marmol looks awesome. I think the Cubs will win today, and I want on the Marmol BandWGN.

    Today's Cub fan has it much better than fans who rooted the team on from '46-'83. For instance, the great Steve Goodman never saw the Cubs play in the playoffs. It has been a long time since the Pirates, Royals, and D-rays have flirted with making the playoffs. All we need is for somebody in the front office to discover sabermetrics. Those teams need a miracle ala Florida '03.

    Murton is popular in this household. I found an orange cat last year and named him Murton. Better not trade him!

    I know the upper deck was sometimes closed. When was that approximately? I'm just curious because the first Cub game I went to, we sat in the upper deck and it was either '78 or '79. One more memory of days gone by: buying Wrigleys gum instead of bubble gum because it might help the Cubs get some better players!

    If the Cubs are right, then we got an outfielder who will hit for average, play adequate D, and steal a few bases. Couldn't we have found and developed guys like that in rounds 5-50? It seems like a defeatist attitude by the Cubs brass. Maybe they hope he will exceed even their own expectations?

    I think the kid will choose baseball. It is a better quality of life for an athlete.

    Here I was hoping that we had enough off days to go with a 4 man rotation. What we really need is rain, Z, and pray for more rain!

    The '62 team was awful- college of coaches- only the Cubs could come up with an idea so dumb. But we still weren't as bad as the lowly Mets that year. (at least they were in their first year of existence- what was our excuse?) From what I understand the Cubs still teach baseball differently at each level. This team would teach baseball differently at the ML level from week to week depending on which guy was in charge at that time. I thought that the '81 team might be on the list, but I think that the Mariners had an all-time worst type year that year. Plus it was strike shortened so we really didn't lose that many games.

    Even if Hendry went out and acquired guys who get on base regularly, Baker would ruin them with his 'swing at the first pitch' philosophy.

    I don't know what the reporters are thinking, but when I heard Dusty talk about the first pitch of an at-bat being the best pitch to hit, any remaining faith I had in the guy evaporated. No wonder we aren't drawing walks or enticing the pitcher to groove a fastball on a 3-1 count. They are practically ordered not to!

    I was lucky enough to be out of town and busy during the Marlins series so I would imagine that rock bottom will occur if the Braves sweep us. A friend of my dad's once threw his tv out the window while watching a Cub game in the 70's. That is a sure sign of hitting rock bottom.

    In the old USFL the Chicago franchise was actually traded for the Arizona franchise. Don't know if that ever happened any other time.

    I'd rather reaquire Alf and Matt Clement and trade them to the Marlins for Dontrelle Willis.

    To banedom: For me, I guess that 5 no hit innings is enough to call flirting with a no no. 6 innings could be a kiss from the no no and obviously once you get 9 she's yours forever! (barring extra innings of course)

    The guy has flirted with at least 2 no nos in his rookie year. I'm aboard for sure.

    Where would you guys have figured Nomar to play this year if we had signed him? I don't think he could still be a middle IF. Plus we have a ton of dough invested in Aram, and nobody knew Lee would get hurt. It seems like OF would've been Nomar's only spot had we signed him. Shoot, Nomar, Jones, and Murton sharing the corner OF spots would be an upgrade, even if Nomar proved to be a butcher OFer.

    Feel sorry for Pat and Ron? How about guys like Jack Brickhouse who put up with this stuff for 50 years!
