    I've long had a nightmare of being in a nursing home and only having soccer on tv and no baseball. If this Clark gets a few kids into baseball then he's good in my book.

    I don't have the numbers in front of me but for a season or two, Marmol was as difficult to get a hit off of as any pitcher in baseball history.

    Nah, while there have been occasional moments where Cubs GMs circa 79-11 have thought they had a plan for the future, that idea quickly went out the door in favor of trying to win immediately. You can point out a future oriented deal here or there, but by year 3 of any Cub GM, it is clear that they had no future plan, only to win now. Hendry did the best job of trying to build, but after the Marlins series in 03 there were no more tomorrows. Jim Frey traded for potential top young arms Nipper and Schiraldi. When they didn't pan out he traded top prospects for a closer. That pretty much sums up the strategy of Cubs GMs from the late seventies til Theo. Dip your toe in the 'plan for the future' water and then crap your pants and pray for today. The new approach is refreshing to say the least.

    The Cubs are doing the right thing. WIN RIGHT NOW!!! had been the approach of every regime since at least the late 1970s until Theo arrived. I am thrilled that the Cubs are acquiring young assets while evaluating those already at or near the big league level. Nobody has a better track record of doing this than our guy Theo so let's let him do his thing and get out of the way.

    That is a bit confusing considering that 30 hrs, not 31 is a more logical milestone. The main point is that the Cubs have not had a consistent slugger from the left side since Billy Williams. Billy Williams hit over 30 hrs from the left side a few times for the Cubs so obviously there's at least one besides HRod.

    I believe that the stat is that the Cubs have not had a LH hitter post 30 HRs in 2 consecutive season since Billy Williams did it. Maybe it was Rick Monday but I think it was Williams. Been a long time since it could be said that the Cubs have consistent power from the left side. Humor me just once Cubs!

    I remember CUBS- Citizens United for Baseball in the Sunshine I was for lights then just as I am for modernizing improvements now but I do sympathize with OldCub69. Eventually Wrigley may come to a point where they've 'paved paradise and put up a parking lot.' The most attractive thing about the Chicago Cubs to me is the memories of going to Wrigley with my dad. Every year the park and club is that much different from those days. I want the Cubs to win the WS every year but I also want to recognize at least a few things from 'back in the day.' I think Theo understands this balance and I trust him to move forward with this understanding in mind.

    I am absolutely thrilled with what the Cubs FO is doing. I've been advocating a total youth movement/rebuild since I was a child in the 1970s. Been wanting lefty sluggers almost as long. A Cub fan doesn't mind being patient, especially when there is a clear plan and a proven guy orchestrating it. I've never been more confident in this franchise than right now.

    Steve Goodman wrote the song and it's not like he was some hack. Many consider his 'City of New Orleans' to be the greatest in a long line of train songs. He also wrote David Allen Coe's signature song, 'You Never Even Call Me by my Name.' I really enjoy his smokin' bluegrass version of 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' with Jethro from Homer and Jethro. And of course Goodman wrote 'Dying Cub Fan's Last Request.' Goodman had a long and distinguished career as a singer/songwriter and he was one of the greatest Cub fans of all time. GO CUBS GO is a fun song Steve wrote for the team back in the early 1980s. Enjoy it or just leave it be.

    If given a choice, I would keep Go Cubs Go and send hater fans packing. It makes me very happy when the Cubs win. So sue me.

The Beatles even covered it, calling it Hi Ho Silver. Guess it was just a different time back then.

    In hindsight, that Marlin team was seriously loaded with talent and should have beaten us worse.

    I would appreciate it if someone would do an updated top 10 Cub prospect list for this season. I know that Archer and Lee are gone but I forget who else left and who all is coming up. Thanks.

    It is across the board consensus that Otto is terrible. I really don't understand why everybody feels that way. Otto is kind of funny IMO and he isn't an egomaniac since he stunk as a player. I like the idea of giving Otto a chance.

    Thome would be an interesting choice for the radio booth. I am not enamored with the current choices so he would be ok with me. Maybe he could do color on the radio, then wander down to the dugout and pinch hit occasionally. Gotta get value for your money these days.

    Thanks for the memories Ronnie. When the Cubs did good, you multiplied the joy and when they did bad, you lessened the pain. You will be greatly missed. RIP to an all time great Cub.
