  1. I am thrilled with the Cubs giving the job to Quade. I think he will be the Cubs' manager for a long, long time.
  2. I liked watching Q's Cubs which was a departure from Lou's 2010 Cubs. Quade has my vote as manager.
  3. Keep up the good karma Cubs n Clippers! Kew kew I love it I love it!!
  4. I've been a fan since the 1970s. You are enjoying the Cubs best years since before World War II IMO.
  5. Yup. One way or the other, a righty was gone and a left-handed thumper was on his way. Fukudome and Fontenoy just aren't enough pop from the left side to face a bunch of stud righties in the playoffs. In hindsight, things should've been done differently (though plenty of us have been advocating Hoff over Dlee for some time now) but their plan to get some left-handed thump was spot-on.
  6. Hoff must make the team. We need some power off the bench.
  7. Murph is my very favorite radio guy. He loves the Cubs and reminds me of old school fans from my dad's generation. I would admit that some of his ideas are pretty crazy though.
  8. Very sad. He was like me or you who lived out a dream of playing for the Cubs.
  9. Give me a left-handed power bat. Same request I've had my whole life.
  10. 1. Brick- he was there at the beginning for me. 2. Harry- one of the great entertainers EVER! 3. Josh Lewin- I know I'm the only one, but I love the guy. When I first heard about him joining the crew, they said he was 'a self-described life-long Cub fan.' Good enough for me.
  11. 1. My Dad 1946-1981 and all the other Cub fans who are gone. 2. Me- Grandpa said I was defending the Cubs as soon as I could talk. 3. All Cub fans worldwide, especially Ron Santo. 4. All Cub haters worldwide. 5. All 329 Florida Marlin fans.
  12. My dad was an original Bleacher Bum from the 60s so I honestly don't remember NOT being a Cub fan. Dad took me to 4 games between '78 and '81. We would listen to the games on GN while playing catch. Dad died in a car accident in '81 so it would be a crime against his memory to switch teams. You won't find a more committed lifer than me- I have no choice, but if I did I wouldn't chose any differently. I have learned to let losing roll off of my back, but winning brings me great joy and I think of my dad and how happy he would be. Dad was born after the '45 WS and never saw even a Cub playoff game his whole life! Really, the Cubs are truly part of my dna- we are intertwined forever.
  13. I was convinced that 03 was our year because it was early in the century and we had a pitcher with an unusual number of fingers. I like the 'Cubs always win in 07' theme better.
  14. Early in the season we found a variety of ways to lose. I'd know I'd never observed an out made on a walk before this season. In another game we walked in the winning run. We were 3-15 in one run games. It was like having a root canal every day. But, once Lou had his first explosion/ejection we've been playing very good baseball. Lou has 'found guys who can catch the damn ball, and run the bases properly,' just like he wanted.
  15. got any numbers to support that ridiculous claim? didn't think so. honestly though, i would love to see you list all the instances where barrett's d cost the cubs a run. Ha I always forget to add an IMO. I've always felt that MB was bad behind the plate, but lately you can see the tangible evidence of it contributing to losses. Most MLB catchers catch the ball and make the tag in last night's game IMO. Most MLB catchers throw out a higher % of runners. Most MLB catchers aren't arguing or fighting with their pitchers. Some MLB catchers block Demps wild pitch that cost us the braves game IMO. And there's been plenty of other bad plays this year. With a lot of catchers, it's hard to notice their D- they just catch the ball period. MB has made it hard to NOT notice. And it sucks because I think the world of the guy.
  16. I like your attitude JonnyRed. This team can play a lot better and when we do the Brewers will be in trouble! I do think MB should go though. His D gives up more runs than his O can make up.
  17. I think Justin Jones was part of the Nomar/Murton trade. Wasn't Dope being talked about pretty good just last year? Is it really over for him?
  18. Kaplan on WGN radio said more or less the same thing as Olney. Basically, that the players feel that Lou doesn't have their backs. Boo hoo.
  19. For a short time the most badass was Kerry Wood.
  20. I lived 20 minutes from PPS (now Dolphin Stadium) back in '03. When the Marlins got the final out of the WS, I scurried out of my apartment, hoping to hear just one car horn honk, or one whoop of joy- just to know that SOMEBODY had experienced the sheer joy that I have so longed for. Crickets. Those (expletives) don't have any fans whatsoever. If the Cubs had won the WS, it would have been like VDay in times square all over again- even 500 miles away in small town in Iowa. The jails would've been full of happy fans all around the midwest. At the bar I hung out at in FL, most of the old timers were actually Cub fans! It was a morge after the Cubs lost. And this bar was 2 blocks away from the hotel where Bartman was offered a lifetime stay for free! Even local hero Jimmy Buffet is a Cub fan. They simply don't have any fans. (Expletives) (sorry for the expletives- I hope I haven't broken any rules, but I really hate the Marlins!)
  21. This 'oh my gosh it's been so long since we've won- we need to win right now!' mentality has existed since I was a child in the 70s. I said way back then that we should go young and be patient but it's never happened. I'm still a fairly young man. I wish they'd try that angle once.
  22. I was thinking derwood was right and that you get a blown save anytime you give up an inheirited lead. But I'm starting to think that you are right grassbass. How can you blow a save if you weren't eligible to earn it? Any final definitive answer?
  23. I agree with you backtobanks. Why can't Murton/Floyd play LF, Jones in CF w/ Pagan for late innings, and Alf in RF?
  24. the mets broadcasters think Z is shortarming his pitches. I dunno, maybe they are right.
  25. Other than Willie Mays, I cannot think of one player who was better than Dawson at all five tools. Can anyone? (Maybe Joe D, but Hawk still stole more bags I believe.) Hawk came very close to reaching offensive benchmarks that would enshrine any slow footed one trick pony. (3,000 hits, 500 hrs) I believe that Dawson either hit more HRs, or stole more bases than every member of the HOF not named Mays. Throw in his strong arm and outfield play (including many years in center) and he is a HOFer IMO. I'd like to think that the fact that Hawk is my all-time fav athlete (ahead of Payton and Jordan) doesn't cloud my judgement, but it should be disclosed.
