  1. Yeah I like it too. Not sure how much Asik is getting paid, but assuming the contract was made before the cap exploded so should be reasonable. Given that Niko still wanted out, this might be the best possible deal we could get for him.
  2. No idea if the pick is protected...they are into the playoffs by 2 games but not sure how they will play without Boogie
  3. I honestly did not realize he had such a good season.
  4. Darvish is my clear preference, but if for some reason he went to LAD, I can live with bringing Jake back at a slightly lower cost than Yu, or sign Cobb at a lower cost. I would prefer not to have Monty enter the season as the 5th starter, but mostly because we'd be paper thin. But losing out on Yu wouldn't be a huge catastrophe or anything IMO.

  6. If anything, this long drawn out saga takes me back to the glory days of 2008-2009 with Roberts and Peavy. Only this time something has to give eventually....right?
  7. It's crazy this dude has been milking "Darvish to Cubs is super close" for like 6 weeks now. Hope he's right
  8. you sure do love posting stuff from randoms that's not even a rumor. that's something some person with a phony account made up. charles the cat looks like rosenthal compared to this Everyone told me 2 months ago when I was being cautious to post everything that remotely seems like a rumor.
  9. There will be more Miami based Yankees fans there to see the first game of the Jeets era
  10. https://twitter.com/insidebaseball6/status/957289525998317568 Cubs trying to match the Brewers moves by acquiring an aging overpaid OF that they don’t really need? This rumor can’t be true as it doesn’t make sense on multiple levels, not the least of which is helping the Dodgers financial situation
  11. Something: If this is true, I wonder if the Cubs are willing to cave on 5 years if it comes down to that or starting the season with Monty as 5th starter
  12. Yes, thought at this point, I don't even see Michigan State getting anything close to what punishment Penn State DID receive Why?
  13. Which move did the Marlins get the highest return from: Stanton, Ozuna, or Yelich?
  14. Here we go again
  15. Busy day
  16. I love how the announcement says the XFL is back but this time with no gimmicks, and then they announce a bunch of gimmicks like athletes being forced to stand for the anthem and players with a criminal record banned from playing.

  18. Every time I watch the Bulls I think we re-signed luke schenscher but then he shows an ounce of athleticism and I remember we have Lauri
  19. Keith Stone's latest: Highlighted my favorite part. The Cubs right now are 10th in projected SP WAR. Adding Darvish would likely added 2.2 wins to that projection (over the combo of Monty/Butler that they have as 5th starter right now). This would cause them to leap all the way to 4th behind Indians, Astros and Dodgers. They would have 3 starters with a projected WAR of 3.5 or higher, compared to the Dodgers (1), Astros (2), and Indians (2). Hendricks, Quintana and Chatwood are all between 28 and 29 years old. Hendricks proved last year that if he does regress from 2016, it won't be far. There is no reason to suggest Quintana is due to regress, and Chatwood doesn't have much of a strong track record to regress from at this point. So basically talking about Lester I guess.
  20. For any Brewers fans looking to make a 'yeah but...' rebuttal, TT is right about...well pretty much everything.
  21. They like to claim the 1957 Milwaukee Braves World Series. I was "burned" by a Brewers fan before the Cubs won with that piece of information.
  22. yeah but Theo is going to panic and offer up Bryant. Checkmate!
  23. lmaooo Wow, what a moron. I mean I don't doubt Stearns is a promising young GM, he's made some solid moves in a short period of time, but to think that he is outsmarting GMs with his genius never tried before strategy of leaking offers to media in attempt to raise price in the market is hilarious. Plus there's this other part of his logic that is all wrong: http://i.imgur.com/oAhA4YI.jpg Seems like Brewers fans think the Cubs believe they are in this arms race with Milwaukee and every move Milwaukee makes needs to be counteracted by a similar Cubs move. Not saying the Cubs don't look at the Brewers as a threat, but I highly doubt Theo is so concerned about the Brewers getting Darvish that he jacks up his offer, because OMG we cant let Milwaukee get him!
  24. This is true but we were rumored to be interested in Ross before signing Lester and the thought was that it was to lure Jon to the Cubs (or was a condition he had to sign). I remember the board thinking that we didn't need to sign Ross now that we've got Lester (since we already had Welly and Montero signed). Tweet from Rosenthal a week before Lester picked the Cubs: [tweet] [/tweet] I don't think anyone denies that Gimenez signing is clearly part of an effort to sign Darvish. The distinction I'm making is that because the signing of Ross came after the signing of Lester, we probably shouldn't use it to draw conclusions about what signing Gimenez means about the likelihood of signing Darvish. No if anything he’s a potential good defensive backup on a non-guaranteed deal (I think?) that happens to marginally make Chicago a more attractive destination for Yu.
