  1. So wait, the Cubs only got 1 hit and it was Addison Russell who got it?
  2. He really likes that organ player
  3. Yeah, really not sure what the heck he's talking about. Unless he's talking about me exploding over the eternal folly of the Cubs not landing Yelich, sure, but I do that every 4 hours each day anyway. A little of "we should've traded for him" mixed with a little "Baez is empirically better" Even if you believed that, I can assure you that no one will explode in Yelich wins MVP
  4. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Cubs were mentally checked out having won 5 of 6 games, increasing their lead to a safeish margin and having their first off day in a literal month staring at them so close
  5. Hey there’s always July and August. Thanks Cole
  6. Cub killer Nick Ahmed strikes again
  7. It's crazy how much the crowded playoff fields really pared down over the last week. There's pretty much 11 teams alive for 10 playoff spots now (with the Red Sox and Indians already clinching), although the Rays have gained 3 games on the A's in 3 days and are 5.5 out of WC2, but probably not happening with 10 games left. Other than that its pretty much deciding which 3 of the Brewers, Cardinals, Rockies, Dodgers make the playoffs and what seed they get
  8. Most likely the last time we will need to leave Chicago for a game in 18 days
  9. I was looking up number 9s for the Cubs and it led me to a name I haven’t thought of in a long time... Scott “Die Hard” McClain. I remember how obsessed this board was with his spring training exploits
  10. It’s like they can just taste that sweet single off day that is so close and it’s given them a second wind
  11. What’s Smyly doing or did he reinjure himself under the Cubs watch too? Edit: nevermind I see he was shut down
  12.
  13. I remember that game. We were questioning why Morrow was coming in after the Cubs broke it open and it was explained that he was already warmed up or something and I want to say that Edwards and/or Cishek was also unavailable that game because of overuse. So do we blame Joe for warming him up, the offense for not scoring on the crappy Mets bullpen until the 14th or the starters for forcing the pen to be overused?
  14. Cishek I knew I was forgetting someone
  15. Unreal. Basically nothing from the 2017 offseason
  16. Right, I get they lost draft picks, but people are acting like their window is shut after this year. Mitch will get better, and I think a lot better. A slightly above average QB can win the Super Bowl with this defense(assuming it stays at this level). Mitch probably won't get to that point this year yet and they still will finish with 10 wins. The problem is there will not be an influx of great talent to help make that happen. When you are counting on your team to improve over the next couple years, you generally count on draft picks and free agent signings. Well, they won't have any blue chip picks and they won't have much money to spend on free agents either. It's all on Mitch becoming very good. He can't just be good enough. He has to be very good. He's not projecting to be that at the moment. Right...the only way we were able to afford Mack is because of Mitch's rookie contract. If he's not the guy, we don't really have much leverage to improve at QB in FA unless we start cutting key guys, and we all know how much of a low success route that is. And we certainly don't have draft capital to get a QB...what little picks we have we can't waste on another project QB. Mitch has to be the guy. That said, while I haven't seen a ton that screams elite QB so far, I have seen enough to think that he has a high floor meaning he isn't going to be a Cade McNown style flame out. With the defense as good as its looked, you could certainly see a mid-2000's type ceiling for the team even if Mitch is only a passable QB that you build an offense to limit mistakes
  17. We can argue about the value of PFF grades all day but man did they not like Mitch last night The defense looked really good mostly. Roquan Smith graded fairly low though http://i.imgur.com/8l0HCxK.jpg
  18. If they fail, the Cubs were just continuing their trend of winning against aces and getting completely shutdown by nobodies
  19. The Cardinals have to at least be discussing starting Rosen right? Bradford is complete garbage.
  20. If this team isn't good enough to beat the second-best team in the division or to blow out a completely brutal team like the Raiders, then it isn't ready to compete for more than a thin shot at a wild-card and a one-and-out. And if it's not ready to do that now, then it probably won't ever be, because more first-round picks aren't walking through that door. They are in win-now mode and need to show more, quickly. Adding to the frustration is we've seen noteworthy or big things from some of the QB's taken after Mitch namely, Mahomes and Watson, while seeing the continued poor play of Mitch. I remember writing about the Packers holding on all of their TD passes to which someone replied those types of excuses are made by fans of loser teams. Giving Mitch a pass because of a new HC, scheme, etc. is along the same lines, upon seeing some of the highlights, he missed plenty of easy throws - any QB should hit those regardless of scheme, etc. Yeah this is what bothered me. OK he's learning a scheme, he's not making all the right reads, maybe he's trying to force some throws into coverage because of that. I guess that is ok (for now), but when he's underthrowing WRs on deep balls, throwing a dump off pass to his RB that sails 3 feet over his head, underthrowing the ball into double coverage, etc its concerning. By complete chance I happened to end up watching this game sitting next to a former Bear from the early 2000's, would rather not mention who, but he was picking apart Trubisky pretty harshly, even on throws he made. Not saying he's the definitive expert on QB play watching a TV broadcast, but he certainly knows more than I do about this stuff and he confirmed a lot of the things I thought I was seeing. I'm not "giving up" on Trubisky at all and the inexperience excuse still holds a little bit but we need to see improvements pretty quickly.
  21. Now a .332 OPS in the 16 games since coming off the DL Also he hasn’t ended a game with a higher season OPS than when he started since mid-August which is pretty tough to do when it’s in the mid-600s
  22. The guy should have said that instead of his hilariously awful logic
